I'm not big on self promotion, but I have an exhibition up for the next few weeks that I curated including solarpunk and cofuturist contemporary art. I have a catalog but haven't put it online yet, but if anybody's interested DM me and I can send a link. Only some of the artists are explicitly Solarpunk. The show is the follow-up to my PhD dealing with the same topics. I submitted my dissertation last week!

Ask the Sub Cozy Solarpunk MMO Loftia - FREE DEMO THIS WEEK ONLY!! ..and Change Gamers online community

Hello good folks!

The cozy solarpunk-themed MMO (massively multiplayer online) videogame Loftia currently has a free demo available to play as part of Steam’s Next Fest. The demo ends on Oct 26 (10am PST) then the game will launch in early access on Nov 3rd. This is a good chance to play it for free, as it will cost around $30US after launch.

I’m very interested in exploring the potential for videogames to play a role in building a better, kinder, more sustainable world. Whether through providing new narratives for how we can live together, demonstrating sustainable/renewable technologies or experimenting with new types of economies or governance systems. I think it’s a medium that allows for all of these and I think Loftia has a lot of potential in this regard.

I’ve just started a discord server and I’m hoping to build a small online community of gamers who are interested in building a better world together. My hope is that we can get to know each other, play games together, discuss ideas, politics and activism, provide support for each other, etc. If anyone is interested, I’d love for you to join me. At this point the server is just bare bones and I am literally the only member. I have ideas but I’d like to build the community collaboratively if others are interested in joining me.

Here is the link to join Change Gamers: https://discord.gg/YJe7rDanT

Technology The live location of every wind-powered cargo ship in the world. How far are you from one? :)

Hi guys, I wanted to share an awesome free website I've come across, which I have absolutely no relation to or role in, it's just very Solarpunk i think.

https://www.wind-fleet.app/

Since it launched in June, 21 more ships have joined the map, all fitted with wind power in 2026.

That’s 117 vessels in service and 6 million deadweight tonnes (DWT) under sail.

Here's an explainer post by the sites' creator on Linkedin if you're interested.

https://www.linkedin.com/posts/thomas-steip_in-june-i-launched-windfleet-a-live-map-ugcPost-7517508614627110912-uurZ/?

Note: most of these ships still use fossil fuel, they just burn less by harnessing wind as well. Some are even tankers transporting oil! So I'm not saying it's a perfect or finished solution by any means. But unless this tiny segment of the huge 60,000+ vessel global industry that's actually doing something to cuts its emissions sees some public interest, some public support, this can't grow into anything bigger.

What I would love to see happen is that out of Solarpunk and adjacent streams of environmentalism we build a kind of fan culture emerges around wind ships. I.e. people are tracking them, having their favourite ship, wanting their own valuable products from overseas (anything that actually can't be produced locally) to reach them via wind ship, and where available taking rides on them as passengers for slower overseas travel.

We used to see sails on the horizon, arriving from foreign lands, and feel excitement, something deep and profound. Ships had names, histories, famous captains, and gods or goddesses on their prows.

Sailing ships vanished from our society's collective consciousness over the last century as giant fossil fuel powered container ports destroyed the economics of sailing ships calling into the heart of port cities around the world. Now the vast surface of the earth has been rendered meaningless, instant, consumed in a click and flushed away, millennia-old trade routes made meaningless.

There's no reason why anything shipped from abroad just HAS TO come at rapid speed, on a 100% fossil fueled container ship. We humans are simply not that important in the grand scheme of life on earth. We can and must live on less stuff, and the remaining essential items or valueable goods we still want from overseas can take longer to get to us, and arrive on completely wind-powered ships. (note: most modern wind power on ships is not "sails" - that's a subset)

Literature/Nonfiction Books about solarpunk?

I'm hoping to find a book about solarpunk and ideas for how we could change the way we live according to its principles. I'm hoping for something aimed more at a mass audience than say something published by a specialist press for solarpunk enthusiasts - something a bit more general and mass market. Also interested in any books about solarpunk in architecture! Can anyone recommend anything?

Event / Contest upcoming Dreaming and Worldbuilding workshop (3rd nov, amsterdam)

About Event

“Playing, Dreaming, Worldbuilding” is a series of creative gameplay workshops facilitated by artist Kruthika NS (TheWorkplaceDoodler), empowering players to reimagine, rebuild, and rewild the worlds they WANT to live in.

💵 Pay-What-You-Can: to compensate Kruthika for her time and efforts, a donation to her directly will be much appreciated. Feel free to bring a friend too. We can accommodate up to 20 people for this game.

What is it?
Emerging from her Master's Thesis research and a lifechanging class on feminist worldbuilding at NYU, these workshops utilize the “Dreaming & Worldbuilding Game” co-designed by the artist with girls and young feminists across the globe during her art residency with Our Collective Practice, a global girls' rights organisation.

The game offers players a space to dream of collective futures that resist imaginations laced with dystopia, helplessness, and destruction — so much of which is being fuelled by the technological systems of the present. It begins by offering clues or prompts to get each player thinking about a brand new world completely uprooted from our current reality. Through imaginative play and collaborative dialogue, players will build on these clues, challenge existing societal structures, explore their collective desires, and lay seeds to future worlds they want to inhabit.

The workshop will include a meditative dreaming session, collective play, and space to co-create art that provides a glimpse into the worlds they build.

More on the game’s genesis: https://www.ourcollectivepractice.org/game

✨ Featuring: Kruthika, also known as TheWorkplaceDoodler is an anti-disciplinary artist, researcher, and lawyer from Bengaluru, India. Her practice brings together storytelling, feminist worldbuilding, and visual communication across media often considered to be separate domains — illustration, puppetry, film, comics, participatory installations, writing, and most relevant to this Seed Exchange — game design. She loves collaboration, and encourages you to reach out if this session resonates with you.

I think this is solarpunk because it allows for lighting without electricity.
