Resource Is tuner-pitch accurate???

Post image
0 Upvotes

It says i hit a6. (I got it on the middle shortly after this) it definately felt higher than anything else I've ever got. The highest i got before this was d6 which was confirmed by someone who knows piano lol and c6 is the highest i can get consistently enough before things get difficult in head voice.... but the first time hitting c6 was way harder than this was... and it is definately higher than d6... and feels COMPLETELY different than head voice.

I got it at least 5 times before i tapped out. My first c6 was worse though. No pain but i can't get the whistle like i was. I hope practice gets it back. It just happened idk exactly what i did but i will try to recreateand stabilize it just like i did my first c6... im confused lol it feels real but at the same time Im like shocked and in denial rn if this is accurate

Conversation Topic Do lower voices really take longer to mature?

I've always seen this, be said but I don't have any firsthand experience. I'm 20 and a lower voice myself, and I like to think I have more vocal maturity to be had. Not just with technique but my voice itself. Everyone says lower voices mature in their thirties and fourties, but can anyone offer anecdotal/personal experiences with this? Hoping to have some encouragement that I can grow more with age!

Advanced or Professional Topic How to actually lift the larynx

Watched some shorts which say i should stick my tongue out. The problem is that i cant sing with my tongue sticking out. My voice hurts when singing high notes. It also feels like, and i dont know how to explain this, your throat does some sort of shift and uses the upper part, almost the mouth, to hit higher notes but they then come out soft almost like a whisper. I would appreciate advice.

Conversation Topic I'm so confused. Every single person on this subreddit tells me I have pitch issues, but 2 vocal coaches have told me I do not.

I have no idea what is going on. After the first two posts I got with that feedback, I went to two different professional coaches and both said they don't hear a problem.

Not only that, my vocal director in my most recent show tells me every time my pitch is off, and every time i fix it and it never happens again.

People here being overly critical?? Is the audio quality warping my voice??? I'm soo lost yall

Conversation Topic How do yall master a song?

I don't mean master as in production wise mastering but more like become really good in singing a song, like be super emotional, hit every note, correct placements singing it in a way that just moves people. Also how long does it take usually?

Conversation Topic It feels like my voice is getting worse and I'm not sure what to do

(3rd time posting because I kept messing up the title, my bad)

Apologies for the Yapping, wasn't sure where else to go lol

I've been singing since I was 10 years old (literally half of my life) in school choirs and such and I've always loved it, but this year it's felt like my technique has just disappeared ... or my voice has? I'm not sure. I'm autistic and I really struggle to identify what I'm feeling in my body, so when I go to my singing teacher it's hard for her to know what to tell me because I don't know what's wrong, just that something is wrong.

My voice gets weird sensations that seem to change every time I try to define them - usually minor aches or burning feelings in my throat. I have crazy acid reflux because I can't burp and I've been taking stuff for it before I sing. It helps but I'm pretty sure that's not my only problem.

My singing teacher figured out I have tongue tension so I've been trying to get better with that, and I also think it's super likely I have jaw tension and probably every other tension that exists. I also worry my breath support sucks even though it wasn't always this bad. Also weird thing that's been happening when I swallow over the past couple days - kind of feels like there's something else in my larynx area? Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not, and it's really difficult to describe.

I've been trying so hard to get better but it feels like I overthink myself into worse habits, but if I don't then nothing changes. My directors keep telling my choirs things like "chill out" "relax" and I know I need to, I am an anxious wreck, but I also don't know how to improve when I'm not actively thinking about my technique. Singing isn't fun anymore because I'm so anxious and miserable and I miss when it was fun. I genuinely don't know what to do from here. I've gone to my singing teacher and there's not much she can tell me other than "that's weird, can you be more specific?" and I fucking can't. There's only one vocal health physician person in my area who everyone recommended me to and she's on maternity leave. If I try to figure it out myself, I just get confused and spiral until I'm sobbing on the floor and it makes me have a negative association with singing, which means I practice less, which means I obviously get worse.

Not really sure if advice is what I'm after, because I don't expect anyone to have a magic solution to my problems. I know I'm going to have to work to improve, and it's not gonna just happen overnight. I just really have no idea what to do, and I feel like I can't keep doing what I'm doing now. I hate that no one else can help me because I'm not able to properly verbalise what I'm feeling, emotionally or physically. If I'm asked why I'm upset, I don't even know what to say, because it feels like everything's wrong in my brain and with my vocal folds :(

Thanks if you read this far lol all comments appreciated <3

Conversation Topic I sang Sting’s “Fragile” and would love some honest feedback

Hey everyone! I've been singing and playing guitar for about a year now i'm 17, and I recently recorded my version of Sting’s Fragile.

I'd really appreciate some honest feedback on a few things:

  • Is my pronunciation understandable, or does it sound noticeably bad?
  • How is my pitch? Am I staying in tune, or are there parts where I go off?
  • What do you think I need to work on the most at this stage?

I'm still learning, so feel free to be honest. I'd rather know what I need to improve than just hear that it sounds good.

Thanks for listening!

Advanced or Professional Topic Teaching singing without a voice degree?

I've taken classical voice lessons for over a decade and have been singing in choral ensembles (both professional and amateur) for twice as long. I'm considering teaching voice lessons, since being able to set my own hours would be way easier. That said, I don't feel qualified enough. For one, while I do play the piano, I can't sight read very well; for another, I never completed my music degree (though I have all the same skills and knowledge that I would've done had I finished). It's a super oversaturated market in my city as well. I have my own private space and a keyboard, though; have a good ear for technical issues; and am a very out-of-the-box thinker when it comes to teaching. But yeah, on paper, I don't have much draw.

Obviously, I don't plan on starting this venture immediately. There's still a lot of planning and setup to do. I also have to first take courses on vocal anatomy and pedagogy so that I can be sure I'm not fucking up a new generation of voices. I'm an overthinker and always feel like I have to be perfect before putting myself out there. So I wanted to know when y'all started teaching, what stage in your career/education you were at, etc. Any and all advice/feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!

Conversation Topic What the actual heck goes on in a vibrato

I like to sing in my car while I drive in order to keep my focus, and wanted to learn how to do vibrato just for fun. What wasnt fun was going on google and finding the most unhelpful videos ever. I just want to know what I mechanically should be doing to make the sound “wobble.” I tried on my own, doing the finger wobble, and am so tired of sounding like some moron. I just want a diagram of the muscles or SOMETHING because I just can’t figure out what’s going on. Please does anyone have a visual graph or know how to tell me what muscles I need to use to do it?

Sorry if I sound upset I have a headache and it’s one in the morning and it’s like the people in the videos are speaking some other language and I just don’t know. :(

Advanced or Professional Topic I've been a live sound engineer for three decades. I think the head / chest voice terminology is antiquated and basically wrong.

• Upvotes

Vocalization includes most of the torso and head at all times.

Same BS goes for 'nasal'. They actually measured that in a study.

As a sound guy who's done 10,000 concerts, me and my colleagues just classify vocalists as 'weak' or 'good'.

*I am a classically trained musician as well

Feedback (read rule 3 before posting or be banned) Soft palette and clarity

I've been trying to focus on lifting the soft palette when singing, and trying to keep mouth more open while getting a clearer sound, I got some feedback previously that I had a lot of low end so needed to focus on a bit more clarity to cut through, and also opening my mouth more O shaped instead of flatter as my placement was making my vowels sound flat, is it working?

Sang a lyric wrong 😅

Lyrics:

Falling, this cliff came way too soon

Falling, it's my own fault that I'm here

Falling, is there any way to be safe

Right now feels dark, don't know, wish I could touch the light, be home with you

Falling, can't break myself enough

Falling, wanna be a better man

Falling, let the fire make me gold

Right now feels dark, don't know, wish I could touch the light, and know its true

I'm trust falling into you

I'm trust falling into you

I'm trust falling into you

Right now feels dark, I know that I can touch the light, be home with you

Just sharing my singing Sang two lines well

I take singing lessons. I trade someone for Muay Thai sessions. We've just started covering resonance. Sang Someone Like You and I managed to get the first two lines out of the chorus sounding good. Like the voice that left my mouth was a sound I've never produced before and I almost panicked.

I'm beyond elated. I still suck on the whole but improvement is starting to show.

Conversation Topic is it true some people have a "high" and "low" larynx?

ive heard that some people naturally have a "high" larynx which makes it harder to sing high notes compared to those born with a low larynx. i can feel my larynx and it seems to be pretty high could this be holding me back?

I am a beginner self taught singer and am looking for opinions on how I am doing with this particular song. I love this song but do you think it suits me? I am using a microphone that has a delay echo sound that I can’t seem to fix so I apologize for this. I am hard of hearing so it helps me to help to hear myself sing in real time. I welcome thoughts and tips. Thank you everyone. https://voca.ro/1jRiAHByW0XS

Conversation Topic How to post covers as a shy singer with no instruments?

I only have access to instrumentals and karaoke vids on YouTube but I feel like if I post videos of covers like that they won’t get as much traction, I also want to cover songs differently than the originals and it’s hard to pitch down instrumentals and all that, would TT be my best choice for posting in general? And how do I get over the fear of showing my face while I sing 😭😭
