Sharing: Resources & Tools Preventing the next round of depression

• Upvotes

Anyone else who have gone through at least a 2nd round of depression have an inkling suspicion that they could go through it again?

I have this suspicion and looked up on it and it's true. If you had one episode before, you have a 50-50 percent chance of getting it again. If you have it a second time, you're much more likely to get it again. And so on. (I'll share sources, but links are not allowed in posts here)

I had a second round lasr year and I definitely don't want to go through it again. So, I'm curating ways to catch it in the act before it happens. One of it is body-mind alignment, learning to be aware of my body signals and following it even if my mind wants to pull me in a different direction.

I'm curious if anyone else is also do this, or is working on something like this. Perhaps we can share resources.

Advice Needed: Mental Health Advice for mindset improvement

• Upvotes

Please give me some advice for mindset improvement any habits or tips on how to make me stop thinking like this. My mind is full of negativity, revenge, and hate. Please don't bully me for asking for advice, I take inspiration of thoughts from those.

Ps. Going out or hanging out with friends doesn't help because the don't invite me and they constantly forget about me, at this point I don't have friends.

Another thing, I also went to online mental sub reddits for help either I got a reaction of "wtf is this, is this even real?" or no comments what so ever.

Advice Needed: Mental Health any mistake feels catastrophic

Hey guys,

I was curious if anyone else experienced this phenomenon, where it feels like, with anything, art projects, jobs, relationships, my life, the minute anything goes wrong the first instinct i have is to abandon in because it feels irrevocably ruined. I could have painted the mona lisa but it would have looked like shit to me because i made one eyelash the wrong angle. Which is fine when its art projects but when that same instinct to just trash the whole thing gets applied to my life, it can get dangerous.

Is this something i can deprogram, or just learn to live with?

for context, I don't expect myself or anyone to be perfect all the time. I am more than happy to give people grace for failures even on the 3rd or 4th time they make the same mistake but I sometimes literally, physically attack myself for mistakes as simple as writing the wrong letter with a pen. Its as though I have acknowledged i will make mistakes but i still brutally punish myself for each and every one of them.

Advice Needed: Relationships I’m learning that expecting people to read my mind only creates disappointment

I used to think that if someone really understood me, they would notice when something was bothering me.

When they didn't, I'd sometimes feel disappointed without explaining what I was feeling.

Eventually, I realized that even people who care about us can't always understand what we haven't communicated.

I'm trying to get better at expressing what I feel instead of expecting others to figure it out.

It's not always easy, especially when talking about emotions feels uncomfortable, but clear communication seems healthier than silent expectations.

Have you ever expected someone to understand how you felt without actually telling them? What did you learn from it.

Sharing: Mental Health Support Trying to find myself

Greetings everyone,

I just had a breakup, and I have no feelings left inside me. I’ve become so emotionally drained because of that person that everything feels completely blurry. I feel like I’ve lost myself somewhere along the way.

Yesterday, I decided that I won’t go back, because in the process of trying to bring her back, I would only end up losing more of myself. I’m quite young, you know, and she was older than me. I came to realize that age gives people an advantage—by that stage, people have usually found themselves before getting into a relationship. But I didn't know all of this happened, so I got into it anyway. She is already stable, while I keep becoming more unstable because I genuinely don't know how to fix these things. If anyone could guide me on how to find myself again...

I've started reading novels, but the reality is that the toxic relationship has left me completely mentally exhausted. Dealing with sudden urges followed by random bursts of happiness—I can't live my life like this.

Advice Needed: Mental Health Help me with my addiction and problems please ... NSFW

This is hard for me to say or even write, but I've been exposed to porn from a young age. I wasn't addicted back then, but now I feel like I am. I've been masturbating daily for the past five years, and it feels like things are getting worse.

Once a day might not seem like much, but I've started noticing that normal porn doesn't arouse me the way it used to. I've gradually started watching more and more extreme porn without really noticing it happening. Honestly, I think I only started realizing how bad it had gotten recently. When I was horny, I didn't really think about it.

The problem is that this isn't what I want to watch or identify with. I have nothing against trans or gay people, but it's not something I want for myself. However, I find myself getting hard when I watch or even think about the trans and sissy porn I've watched, and honestly, it makes me feel sick and worried.

I love women, and I want a girlfriend, a wife, and children someday. I'm only 18, but I'm genuinely worried about my future. I don't want to be with a man or a trans woman in real life. I know I have nothing against anyone who does, but it's simply not what I want for myself.

What worries me even more is that normal porn doesn't seem to turn me on as easily anymore, and I don't get erections as easily when watching it. Meanwhile, the more extreme stuff seems to arouse me more, even though I don't actually want to watch it. I fucking hate this feeling, and I'm scared that I've messed something up.

I don't mind watching normal porn occasionally, but I want to get back to the point where it feels natural to me and I'm not constantly drawn toward more extreme content that I don't even enjoy mentally.

I'm honestly embarrassed that I've let things get to this point, and I don't know how to get out of this cycle. Has anyone experienced something similar? What helped you overcome it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Advice Needed: Motivation How can I change?

I’ve been feeling really bad lately, and I’m so tired of the way my life is going. I can’t sleep properly, my eating habits are terrible, and all I do is scroll through TikTok for hours. I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. I really want to change and get my life together, but it feels so hard. Even my friends don’t seem to understand me. Most of them only come to me when they’re bored, and I’m honestly so sick of feeling this way. 💔

Advice Needed: Mental Health M30

Hello, I am currently going through quite a bit. Long story short I'm in the process of getting amicably divorced with my wife of 5 years and 5 years together before marriage. The marriage fell off for many different reasons. We still love one another a lot and still hug when we see each other I'm just happy to have her in my life because before her I didn't have much of anything not even a license or a diploma. So it's tough for us both really and so there is that.

This past week my grandma passed away as well. Yesterday was her funeral and today I signed divorce papers. I'm currently trying to find work while going through this and really I just feel alone. Living at my dad's and it's not what I hoped for out of my life at this point. I know things can and will get better but right now I'm just struggling. Any help I would sure appreciate even just a friendly chat. Thank you.

Advice Needed: Mental Health How do I stop myself from immediately giving up everything after the slightest disappointments?

I feel like I'm at my wits end from the "nothing works out" fatigue.

Anytime I finally finish something, it was usually after taking something that takes a few days be dragged out over multiple weeks-months, while having a few emotional breakdowns, and when I'm finished I don't feel any joy or relief, just the terror of awaiting what I have to do next.

Today I tried talking to friends, got ghosted. Tried to stick to my schedule, didn't even get through step 1. Tried playing games to at least not just doomscroll, cortisol spiked after 30 minutes when I lost ingame. Every day is just me trying to last as long as I can while tanking failure after failure until I get in this state of numbness where I just stop caring and have awful thoughts. What can I do?

Advice Needed: Productivity I want to speak and understand a 2nd language

That's the main thing.

I'm a native English speaker in my mid-20s and I work full-time. I was born and raised in the UK. My goal is to be proficient in the target language (TL) I know most after English from back in my school days. I'd say right now I'm A1/A2.

I'd like advice from other native English speakers who learnt a 2nd language as an adult and achieved this without moving countries please.

How do I achieve the goal of being B2 in a 2nd language about a year from now bearing my circumstances?

Advice Needed: Existential Everything feels like it’s caving in (25 M)

So I am 25 and the oldest of 3 sons, our father passed away suddenly April 2024, and I have been having a hard time since but right now I feel like I’m at a new low I didn’t see before. Haven’t really been able to keep a job since my dad passed, been bouncing around different security jobs and random odd jobs. I’ve always been dropped into responsibility way above my years since I’m the executor of my dads estate , I had to orchestrate the sale of my grandmas house to pay off my dads debts, as well as managing the other small cottage we have on the family property and it’s hard to balance that with a regular work schedule. Any money I make goes straight back out to bills, and every day has been a conscious effort even just figuring out how I’m going to eat. My mom recently moved 4 hours away so I’m am honestly feeling isolated and scared about my future. I just feel I’m being pulled in 4 directions at once

Advice Needed: Existential I'm a horrible person

So, when I was 10(2 years ago) I had a coach who we'll call sam instead of his real name. Now sam sir was an amazing teacher and he would help me a lot but he made me do so much stretching so I started skipping his lessons on purpose just to avoid that. After 2 months he came on a day when I had a lesson with another coach and asked me why I wasn't coming and I said "you do too much stretching" and then I started coming to his lessons but a week or 2 later he left teaching gymnastics entirely. And I think it was my fault. Entirely my fault. I am such a horrible person. Now after Sam sir left the guilt was just too much so a few months later I left gymnastics. And my neighbour who was my friend since I was born who got me into gymnastics and was in gymnastics at a much higher level than me she keeps going to huge competitions and I'm just sitting at home. My abs are gone and I'm getting like a bit fat and I'm just so sad. I'm a horrible person who wasted his talent then blamed himself and left gymnastics. I want to apologise to him(I have his number so I can contact him when practise is cancelled or smth) but I'm too guilty and I hate it. I don't want answers I just want sm1 to listen to me. Just to clarify, I am a guy

Advice Needed: Relationships I hate this main character syndrome of mine so much and it's making me lose my mind!

I'm very bad at writing these reddit posts. Usually it's at midnight while I'm in bed before sleeping. I doubt this will get any replies, but forgive me if this is structured badly.

Hi, M18 here. So, I've had this self-centered victim mindset for as long as I can remember, where I constantly expect myself to be saved or rescued from my hardships in life.

To better illustrate what I mean, here's an example (try not to cringe, please):
Whenever I sit in the cafeteria where I get my breakfast, I constantly get these delusions and thoughts of someone my age who would be the perfect friend, sitting down and trying to chat with me. Maybe they're someone who's very observant and notices I feel horrible and, as I wrote earlier, this leads to this person saving me somehow, in some way, from the things I go through? It's straight out of a fictional story, it's pathetic, and I hate these thoughts. It's pure delusion.

I'd also like to add that, although I'm not homosexual in anyway, the person I often picture is a dude I frequently come across daily. I don't know him at all nor do I want to know him. He simply "looks cool" and we share physical features (hair style and both wear glasses), yet my brain has been obsessing over him. This is all only recently weirdly enough, I never cared about him way back.

The closest this would be to is a platonic crush, but do those still happen even if you know nothing about the person? I feel very nervous when around him, though I'd say I've managed this to be a lot less by constantly reaffirming my thoughts and feelings about a complete stranger.

How do I fix this? I was heavily sheltered and spoiled by my controlling narcissist mom, so maybe it led to this "in need of saving" mindset or something. Life was easy until two years ago, but not good, if that makes sense.

To be blunt, I don't want to socialize with anyone, and I don't want to talk with my family or anyone about what's going on. So please don't suggest that. I cannot afford anything related to mental health either.

Thank you, and I am sorry if I come across as harsh.

Sharing: Philosophy & Mindset Why "grit your teeth, don't quit, keep going" doesn't work, and a willpower approach that's been working for me

TL;DR: I stopped forbidding myself to quit. At the moment I'm about to give up, I tell myself "you can quit, but no excuses or stories," and most of the time I end up going anyway. Does this logic have a flaw? I've been testing a different approach to willpower on myself for a while now, and I'm curious if anyone sees a flaw in the logic. Most of what we do in life is driven by a need for mental relief, just wanting to feel okay in our own heads. Sometimes we even do things that are physically miserable just because they make us feel better mentally. When you make a decision and force yourself to do something hard, say, going to the gym, you're simultaneously banning the alternative: vegging out on the couch, zoning out in front of the TV with a bowl of ice cream. And the second you ban something, its appeal skyrockets. The couch starts calling your name. The ice cream in the freezer starts glowing. On top of that, the effort required to go to the gym feels endless. It's never just "go today." It's "go today, go tomorrow, go the day after that, and keep not-quitting while hoping it magically gets easier someday." You load the weight of an endless, blurry future onto today's physical discomfort. It's not the workout that breaks you; it's that weight. And it doesn't just happen in the moment of decision. Say you actually went today. Tomorrow's anxiety still leaks into the tiny moments of your day. At first, it disguises itself as responsibility or planning: "I need to go tomorrow too, can't break the streak." Before long, that turns into a heavy obligation you have to carry, and it just suffocates you. So lately, right when I'm on the verge of bailing, I sit myself down for a little talk in my head and run through these 3 steps: I accept it. "Okay. You really don't feel like doing this right now. And that's not a crime." I look at how it actually feels. "I want you to look at what you're feeling right now. How does not doing the thing you think you should be doing actually make you feel in this exact second? Is it genuinely relaxing you, or is it making you feel worse? Is this real relief, or is the anxiety about the future just making you more restless?" I keep the exit button active. "If shelving this decision and bailing right now is going to bring you more relief, if it'll genuinely make you feel better, you can quit. You're off the hook. The exit button is right there, and you are 100% free to press it. Zero pressure." But there is one strict rule to this exit pass: No explanations and no stories. Whatever you do, it stays strictly as "doing it" or "not doing it." No promising yourself, "I'll make up for it tomorrow." No writing convenient excuse stories like, "I had a rough day, my body probably needs the rest anyway." And especially no slapping labels on yourself like, "I have zero willpower" or "I'm just lazy." You are simply going to do whatever you think genuinely makes you feel better right now. It's your call. Whatever you decide, that's what we're doing. What's happening here is that you stop shoving a "right thing to do" down your own throat. You strip away all the artificial pressure and let your mind actually choose a behavior on its own terms. Why I think this works: Once the ban is lifted, quitting loses that shiny "forbidden fruit" appeal. Because you aren't making promises for the future or loading yourself up with an endless mission, the thought of "this pain is going to last forever and I just have to endure it" goes flat on the spot. Tomorrow's anxiety can't leak into your head because you don't owe tomorrow anything. You're only carrying right now, and maybe the next hour. Tomorrow can take care of itself. When all that fake pressure is gone, only one discomfort remains: the gap between what you know is right for you and what you are actually doing. And that gap doesn't pull you toward quitting; it pulls you toward going back. That chronically exhausting, open-ended "duty" disappears, replaced by the quiet friction of your actions clashing with your own values. The first one paralyzes you and glues you to the couch; the second one actually gets you on your feet just so you can close that gap and get your peace of mind back. Plus, the decision comes from the inside. The part of you that used to dig its heels in about going to the gym is now the one making the call. Nothing is being forced on it. Because the exit button is always live, when that part of you chooses to go, it truly owns the choice. Without the coercion, the behavior seems to turn into a habit way faster. And most importantly: Even when you don't choose the "right" thing, your values don't get corrupted. Normally, when we don't do what we know we should, we immediately invent a story to make the guilt go away, bending our own truth in the process: "I was way too tired anyway, let's just write off this week, it's not that big of a deal, next time for sure..." Because we couldn't match our actions to our standards, we lower our standards to match our weak actions. In this approach, pressing the exit button is free, but telling stories is banned. So you never have to twist your own truths just to justify what you did or didn't do. No judgment, no debt, no narrative. What you believe is right stays intact in your head, not bent to fit an excuse. And because you didn't corrupt your own standard, coming back the next day without a mountain of guilt is much easier. Even better, after a certain point, you don't even have to repeat this little speech like a ritual. Once you really know that the door is always unlocked, that you're only inside because you want to be, that whatever you do is just an action without a story attached, and that your core values won't take a hit either way, you don't even need to have that talk with yourself anymore. That awareness just starts running quietly in the background as your default stance. Don't be afraid of actually walking out that door a few times. You need to see for yourself that you can walk out, and then come back the next day having lost nothing. Once your brain sees that in action a couple of times, it learns the door isn't locked, and it stops rattling the handle. After that, doing hard things stops being a war with yourself. The physical pain is still there. The hard thing is still hard. But now, the only thing you have to carry is the moment itself. Final thought: This has worked way better for me than I expected. But I'm a sample size of one, and for all I know, this could just be a shiny new mind trick my brain invented to fool itself. Do you see a blind spot in this logic? Especially in a system where the exit button is always active, where do you think the risk of just completely letting yourself go and never coming back actually starts? If anyone tries this the next time they hit an "I'm so done with this" moment, I'd love to hear how it goes, good or bad, and word for word what you actually ended up saying to yourself in your head.

Advice Needed: Mental Health I ruin everything

Whenever I have a reason to be happy, I find the tiniest thing and then ruin everything for me and everyone around me. Like this happened this morning.

So basically I'm 16, and just to like give you an example, i got my sat scores back today, and they were great, i reached 1500, I was so happy, I woke my mom up, called my dad at work texted my friends, just I was happy, okay. And then idk I was talking to my mom and she said something I don't even know what and I got mad and started crying and the we got in a figth and I just ruined everything. I touched some personal stuff for her i shouldn't have, we fought forever and i just ruined everything

I always do this i always get mad whenever I should be happy, and I always ruin everything.

And I ruin it for my family, we moved to the usa and we don't know a lot of people here, and my mom doesn't have a job so she stays home and i know she's lonely and I just make it worse

I feel like the worse person alive

I was happy

Why can't I just stay happy

Why do I have to ruin everything

Please tell me how to be better

My mom forgave me, because she's a saint, but I need to learn how to stop and be better

Advice Needed: Mental Health i just feel chronically empty

hi guys i dont really feel like writing anything down so i’m just gonna insert some poetry/prose i write to express myself and see if you guys relate or anything, i’m not a writer by any means so don’t expect much just write so i don’t resort to anything else.

…

for me felt love and personal fulfillment has an inverse relationship.

i’ve never been able to have someone love me and spend time and energy more than anyone in their life without feeling absolutely exhausted for being exactly who they want me to be.

i feel compelled and almost coerced by my subconscious to mold my ‘identity’ to suit everyone’s own.

and this is why i’m likeable.

but this is why i’m not human

….

i want something mine

something uniquely, wholly, utterly

mine.

you can’t take it away from me

and i will be completely immovable when you futilely attempt to take it away from me.

it is mine,

it will be mine for eternity.

…

how

far will you

go until the need for

 validation consumes you…

…

I’ve lost half of my face,

beaming cheeks, squinting eyes, scrunched nose.

Carefree memory emerges from the creases like a newborn, yet

To be lost within the cracks-

Cracks that were formed not by disaster,

But with ignorant intention.

Half of my face is forgotten;

half of my face, still,

sinks.

…

i know this post is kinda unorthodox so i hope it won’t be taken down, i just hope someone out there will relate in some subconscious level even though the underlying idea behind all these may not be the most obvious thing

Sharing: Success Stories I finally started to put time to make banners for my social media accounts!

This was not as easy as it sounds, mainly due to the mental exertion I had to place towards this. For a long time, I could not get myself to do anything art-related, despite it being my "hobby" and wanting to do it. Because of this, I see myself just getting started on this as an achievement in its own right. I don't want to move too fast with the progress though; 45 minutes later after starting and working on it on my computer, and my head already hurts. I still have to learn and see lessons and experiences for myself as I journey to a better state of mind.

While many believe that time should be taken off of social media (and they're not wrong), I don't see the social media aspect as what I'm celebrating on, but the fact that I'm doing what I see as a little graphic design. Considering that this is the main job position that I want to start off on in my career, it's nice to know that I'm making strides to put my mind onto a familiar, yet unfamiliar experience. In fact, just expressing my victory over merely starting my banner art has proven to be something I'm still not used to yet, because my head is still tingly and trying to push away from all the new experience, when it can't!

Sorry if some of the things I've said sound like they're on repeat; I'm just glad that I was able to get through what I view as a small, but difficult and important step! I hope, and contnue to hope, that I can continue with this growth of mine, no matter how slow it has to take!

Advice Needed: Mental Health How to get your spark back?

I F21 don’t know where to start but I’m looking for like minded people who know how to overcome this. I used to be very lively, bubbly, never had much close friends but always had people I could do stuff with. Got excited for things like trips, events, things I’m going to do for the day, etc. I remember this vacation I went on in 2023, I was so excited and I had a lot of fun. I have a trip coming up and I’m not excited about it. I know it will be fun and I’m going with two of my friends and we have a bunch of plans and I should be excited, but I’m not. I just wait for it to come then I go and it’s fun and come home. This happened my last few vacations, not excited to go, just, being there. I lost my excitement for life I feel like, I don’t get like super excited over things or happy etc. like if I landed a new job I really wanted I’m just like yes okay great and move on, and if I don’t I’m just like alright well everything happens for a reason. I don’t know when this change happened but I feel like maybe I don’t expect much so that if it’s not what I wanted it’s okay. (I don’t do that with people though?) I think I may have some type of depression. I struggle to make friends, close friends, I have one and she lives 5k miles away in my hometown. Not really any family nearby. I’m lonely and my close friend that lives near me is moving overseas in 2 months. I want to better myself, mentally. I work, go to the gym, walk/ run with my dog, do college classes online and that’s just my life. Maybe I lack purpose? But how does one find a purpose?

Advice Needed: Mental Health I keep analysing myself, trying to understand what's wrong with me, but I still feel empty

I'm 21, in college, trying to build a future for myself, and honestly, I don't know what's happening to me mentally anymore. I've been wanting to write this for a while. Not because I want sympathy, but because I feel like I spend so much time inside my own head that I don't know how to explain what's happening to me anymore. I overanalyse everything. My actions, my reactions, my conversations with people, the way people respond to me, the things I should have done differently, the things I haven't done, and the person I'm becoming. I keep trying to understand myself, almost as if there's some explanation I'll eventually find that will make everything fall into place. But the more I analyse myself, the more exhausted I become. I feel sad. I feel empty. Sometimes I feel incredibly dumb, even when I know I'm capable of doing things. I question my intelligence, my decisions, my personality, my ability to handle life, and whether I'm doing enough with the opportunities I have. I can spend so much time thinking about what I need to improve that I forget to acknowledge anything I've already done. I'm trying to build a good future. I want to do well academically, develop my skills, get good internships, establish myself in finance, become independent, and make something of myself. I have goals, and I care deeply about achieving them. I want to become someone I'm proud of. But sometimes it feels like my entire life has become a list of things I need to fix. I need to study more. I need to be more disciplined. I need to take better care of my health. I need to stop wasting time. I need to work on myself. I need to be better at socialising. I need to stop overthinking. I need to be happier. And somehow, even when I make plans and genuinely try to follow them, I end up feeling like I'm falling behind. If I have a productive day, I think about everything I didn't finish. If I have an unproductive day, I feel guilty for wasting time. If I take a break, I wonder whether I should be doing something more useful. If I struggle to get started, I start questioning my discipline and my character. I don't know how to exist without constantly evaluating myself. The worst part is that I do have things I enjoy. I can get excited about a show, become invested in a fictional universe, listen to music, or look forward to something. I have moments when I genuinely feel good. But sometimes the emptiness returns, and I find myself wondering why I can't just be happy. Why does it keep coming back? Why can I understand logically that one bad day doesn't define my life, yet still feel terrible about myself when I have one? Why do I keep trying to figure out what's wrong with me instead of simply feeling okay?

I also struggle with loneliness. I'm trying to navigate college, make connections, find people I feel comfortable around, and figure out where I belong. I don't always know how to express what I'm experiencing, and sometimes I don't even know what I need from other people. I just know that there are moments when I wish someone would understand that I'm struggling without immediately telling me to look at the bigger picture or reminding me that everyone has problems. Recently, I tried talking to my mother about how I was feeling. She told me I was behaving as though all the world's problems had fallen on me. Maybe she didn't mean to hurt me. But it made me question myself even more. Am I overreacting? Am I making things bigger than they are? Why can't I handle things the way other people seem to?

I know other people struggle. I know I have things to be grateful for. I know that my problems aren't the only problems in the world. But knowing all of that doesn't automatically make the emptiness disappear. And I don't want to keep using other people's suffering as a reason to dismiss my own. It's just difficult to finally acknowledge that you need help, gather the courage to ask for it, and then not know when you'll get the chance to speak to someone. It makes me feel helpless in a way I don't quite know how to explain. I don't know whether what I'm experiencing is depression, burnout, loneliness, or something else. I don't want to diagnose myself based on how I feel. I just know that this isn't the first time I've felt this low, and the fact that it keeps returning scares and frustrates me. I'm tired of analysing every feeling until it becomes another thing to worry about. I'm tired of feeling sad and then feeling stupid for being sad. I'm tired of wanting to improve my life while simultaneously feeling too mentally exhausted to do everything I've planned. I'm tired of questioning whether I'm doing enough, whether I'm enough, and whether I'll ever reach a point where I can feel content with myself. I don't expect to be happy every day. I don't expect life to be easy. I don't expect other people to understand everything I'm going through. I just want to stop feeling like I'm constantly fighting with my own mind. I want to be able to study without feeling like my entire future depends on one evening. I want to rest without feeling guilty. I want to make mistakes without turning them into evidence that something is wrong with me. I want to build my career and take care of myself because I value my life, not because I'm terrified of falling behind. And I want to be able to tell someone that I'm not doing well without feeling like I need to prove that my problems are serious enough to deserve attention. I'm writing this because I don't want to keep everything inside my head. Maybe putting it into words will help me understand it a little better. Maybe someone else has experienced something similar. If you've ever felt empty, sad, disconnected from yourself, or trapped in a cycle of overanalysing everything you do, how did you begin to deal with it? I'm not looking for someone to tell me to be grateful, work harder, or stop overthinking. I already tell myself those things. I think I'm just trying to understand myself, and for once, I'd like to do that without being so hard on myself.

Advice Needed: Mental Health Overthinking hell

Pls pls pls help im desperate for any help!!!

Hello! This is my first ever post on Reddit, and I’m looking for some unbiased advice.

Im in my early 20s now, and I’ve had an issue with overthinking, if im being honest, my whole life. I remember thinking as a small child how i should react to others, always wondering what others thought of me, and wanting to get any type of attention i could get. But it was never labelled as overthinking, i just moved past it because thats what i was told to do. This became a more significant issue when i finished highschool, once i learned what ive been doing this whole time. I just cant stop overthinking. I discovered coming off birth control has massively helped, and the frequency in which i spiral has greatly decreased. The issue is that it is still going on, even though less frequently, the days i do spiral it feels more drawn out, and feels more intense. Like really intense. And i live a good life, just one im not really taking full advantage of.

Ill overthink about all sorts, mostly about myself as a person( very negatively), my relationships with others, and what im supposed to do with life, how i feel quite ambitionless. The list just kind of goes on and on and on and ive considered to go to therapy for it, but im not sure it will help. I feel like any technique i try doesnt work(either because i dont stick to it long enough or because i forget to do it). Im aware that overthinking does not help me at all, and that its protected me from nothing, but i cant help but keep myself in that negative loop. I fear that eventually it will get so bad i’ll actually believe what i tell myself, and ill withdraw even more from the things/people i love. I feel like i cant decide on absolutely anything and im scared im going to turn into a nothing human being. I rely too much emotionally on my boyfriend, and feel very hollow as a person. Tried going down the self help route, but just entered self help hell. Can barely even put into words what im feeling

p.s this post was written in the midst of said spiral

P.p.s ive been told i people please, have gone through some big changes this year which i havent really adjusted to, and i dont think i have much of a relationship with myself, so please any advice is greatly appreciated

P.p.p.s i feel like once i have this figured out, life will become all i want it to be, i just feel so uncertain about everything and feel like i do everything wrong right now. I want to feel calmer, more steady and stable, less racey

Advice Needed: Mental Health Will it all count has sexual abuse ?

I have struggled with hypersexuality since the ages of 8–10. What follows is the background as I remember it, the incidents that shaped me, and where I stand now at 32.

From ages 1 to 13 I slept in my parents’ room. They had sex in the same room while I was present. They believed I was asleep, but I was not. I heard the loud noises and felt the atmosphere even though my head was turned toward the wall. I do not know whether this happened daily, on alternate days, or weekly; I only know it occurred repeatedly over those years. The sex was not mutual. My mother would tell my father to stop; he would not. My father was an alcoholic.

When he hugged me after drinking, it felt uncomfortable, scary, and inappropriate. While holding me he would mutter words such as “motherfucker” and “bitch” in my ear, directed at my mother. On at least one occasion, after he had been drinking, he was doing something with me while we were alone in the room. When my mother entered she shouted at him and he left me and they way he used to touch me from legs to hand and hugging it made me very uncomfortable inappropriate and scared and while doing he used to carryout voices like Aah while doing it and I don't care about his intentions

So it means I was sexual abused by father ?

Even after I moved into my own room at 14, I continued to hear the same kinds of voices and shouting coming from my parents’ room on many occasions. I still cannot say precisely how many times these events occurred across the thirteen years I shared their space or the years that followed.
