Discussion Honestly, nothing beats the feeling of waking up at Horseshoe Overlook in Chapter 2

I was just looking at this screenshot on my laptop and it hit me how peaceful this camp is. Everyone is happy, the weather is perfect, and you can just grab a cup of coffee and sit by the cliffside watching the sunrise. I always find myself turning off the radar, slowing down, and just living in Chapter 2 for as long as humanly possible before everything goes to hell. What’s your favorite routine when you’re chilling at this camp?

Discussion “Guess we’re just about done my friend”. After 8 years, 2,185 hours put into the game, and countless memories, had to give this game the ultimate sendoff. Nothing else comes close, what a journey! Thank you, and God Bless Rockstar, and the entire cast for this masterpiece!

It’s been an amazing 8 years with this game, countless memories. All the way back from when Rockstar posted the first photo, the never-ending speculation, and getting to play this day one. Besides GTA V, no other game has come close with the amount of playthroughs, time with friends that have been spent on this game, and memories. I completed my final playthrough last year, which was the best one out of all of them besides the first one. I attempted to start a new one earlier this summer, in anticipation for VI. But I knew that it could not come close to my last one, and I just didn’t have the time. V, and RDR2 are two of the most impactful video games for me, and I wanted to give both of them the sendoff they deserve. Not only is it the end of an era for V, but it is for RDR2 as well.

Spent the last couple weeks of replaying my favorite missions on a 98% save. The only things left in that save were the last 3 graves, and the last two missions of the story. After all these years, the story still makes me emotional and puts me into deep thinking. The Wapiti arc hit a lot harder this time since I’m living in the area now that the Lakota called home, and I’ve learned a lot about the history of this area (Wapiti are heavily inspired by the Lakota)

The original plan was to do the final sendoff the weekend before VI, but I just didn’t have the time for that and I didn’t want to feel rushed with either game and be burned out when VI comes out. So, I completed the last two missions and did a final ride across the map. Every town, campsite, favorite location, grave and reunions. Starting in New Austin, and then following II’s route throughout the map. Just a great time experiencing it all and recounting everything. Truly a beautiful ride, and a perfect sendoff. Maybe I’ll come back before RDR3, but even then it’ll be hard to top this. For me, this is the perfect conclusion to John Marston and Arthur Morgan’s story.

“Guess we’re just about done my friend. What a journey.”

PSA PSA: You can bypass the horse speed limitation by simply equipping you bow. [RDR2]

As you can see in the clip, the first two seconds show the highest speed possible in towns. As soon as I equip my bow, the speed limitation goes away. This effect will last for about 10-12 seconds and all you have to do again is re-equip the bow.

You don't have to have the bow equipped the whole time. All that matters for the speed boost to activate is the action of equipping it.

This works in all situations where horse speed is limited, not only in towns. For example, some narrow train tracks, or train tracks with railings around, or some off-road paths.

Edit: your* bow, holy shit I just noticed it.

Discussion What's a minor story detail in Chapter 6 that breaks your heart every time? Spoiler

Post image
300 Upvotes

Aside from the big final missions, the slow burn of Chapter 6 is just depressing. Seeing how quiet the camp gets, listening to the depressing music in the background, and watching characters pack up their things because they know the end is near. Even just Arthur's coughing during normal camp conversations makes it so hard to hang out around Beaver Hollow. What are the small, easily missed details in the final chapters that make you realize everything is completely falling apart?

Question RDR2: How much food does the camp need?

I made it a habit to bring Pearson at least one deer carcass per in-game day, and often times a turkey and a rabbit on top, as well as "satchel meat" I can spare.

I suspect that's more than necessary, but how much is adequate? I couldn't find an answer so far, maybe some of you have an idea.

Thank you in advance!

Discussion What started as just a way to kill time.

I had originally bought the game because me and my dad (who passed away in 2013) always talked about red dead and the then new GTA 5 and what next installments of either game would be. I played through everything except the epilogue the first time when the game first came out because I got bored scooping cow poop 😂.

Now being older and learning to appreciate the game, I just completed a 100% play-through and can’t help but feel a large sense of sadness and joy. I’ve never gotten so lost in a game to where I can just ride around and enjoy every little detail that I came across. Of course there was the occasional cougar scare or some dumb horse moment but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I also can’t help but think how much my dad love this game and how John saying goodbye to Arthur is me saying “on to the next one” with my pre order for GTA 6 waiting to be played in November.

Some people can’t stand Rockstar but hey sure so make a hell of a good game.

Discussion Do you think the gang would have survived if Hosea was the leader instead of Dutch?

Post image
116 Upvotes

I’ve been thinking a lot about the dynamics at camp during Chapter 2 and 3. Hosea always seemed like the actual voice of reason, looking out for everyone's safety and trying to find a real way out. Meanwhile, Dutch was just chasing his own ego and "the plan." If Hosea was calling the shots from day one, do you think they would have actually made it to retirement, or was the gang always doomed to fail regardless? Curious to hear what you guys think.

Discussion Finished Chapter 6. My god Spoiler

I've had many Reddit accounts throughout the years and mostly lurked, occasionally commenting here and there, but I've never made a post until now. I'm sure this subreddit gets hit with "I just finished the game" threads all the time, but now I have to say my piece!

I can't believe how late I was playing this game. I don't even remember what I was doing in 2018, but it should've been playing this. Better late than never, I suppose. Still. I was truly missing out on something special. I went into the game knowing Arthur's fate and that's partly why I finally decided to play (also because of GTA VI) but even knowing didn't take away from how hard the story hit me.

Arthur, he truly moved me. I have many favorite characters from video games, but Arthur easily shot to number one. Spending hours and hours with him, reading his journal (my favorite part, I loved seeing his drawings and inner thoughts), I chose the high honor route because I couldn't bring myself to do the opposite, and just seeing these interactions with people who see him as a good man vs this inner struggle he grappled with doing unforgivable things. Such a detailed, complex character.

The best way to describe my feeling toward RDR2 would be heavy. It was an emotionally heavy experience. I've experienced a range of emotions playing video games, but this is the first one that left me with this feeling. I'm unsure what to do with this heaviness.

Anyway, I've rambled enough! I still have to finish the epilogue but to be honest, I'm drained right now. The wound is still fresh, but I feel that it will always be that way.

RDR1 Just started my first playthrough of RDR1

I've completed the second game 3 times now. Played it for the first time a year ago and fell in love. Got it for PS5 on sale

I have about 2 hours of playtime, I've just completed the mission taking Bonnie to Armadillo

So far it's been very fun. I'm looking forward to seeing John's story and what the franchise was like before RDR2. I like the grittiness. It feels simpler than RDR2 but in many ways I like that because it makes it less of a learning curve to get into

Feels quite fast paced. Both in terms of pacing and even just the physical feel. Horses feel very fast in this, as does John. All the actions whether getting in cover, aiming or even just walking feels much faster

Plus according to my stats I'm already 8% of the way through

I'm looking forward to playing the rest!
