As far as "good" losses go, this was a pretty good one. Red Bulls overall looked sharp and created chances throughout the game even as DC bunkered further and further back. Just one of those games where the final touches aren't there and the other team plucks a few set pieces.
I think if there is one thing this game showed is that a DP at attacking midfield has to be top of de Guzman's shopping list. I've covered Sofo a bit lately and mostly think he'll end up an OK midfielder. But these were all his touches in dangerous central areas when the game was still pretty open in the first half. Don't get me wrong, there's not a lot of outright bad play there. There's just not anything great either, and you need someone who can create magic from that spot and not just a shuttler. Old man Forsberg of course comes out and does this without actually having to run.
Every season doing these I tend to pick one player that I have the most fun covering, so forgive me if I make you watch more of Ronnie Donkor. He's become such a complete midfielder. Through balls like these are becoming more and more common from him. My favorite part of his game yesterday though was how much he dominated defensively after moving to the holding midfield spot in the second half. And of course, I always appreciate his insistence on turning every defender around as many times as possible before passing the ball.
Credit where credit is due to a DC player, this was some pretty funny trolling
