"Downgrade" From RTX 5090 to 9070XT

Hello all,

Just thought I would get some insight from you guys.

I currently have an RTX 5090 which I bought at MSRP last year which is paired with a 42" OLED 4K LG C3 (120hz) on my desk.

I am thinking about "downgrading" to the Gigabyte Gaming OC 9070 XT, I secured one at a local shop for $630 + taxes. Then selling my OLED TV for a 1440 for a Alienware - AW3425DW 34" QD-OLED UWQHD 240Hz.

Also currently running a 7800X3D w/ 32GB DDR5.

Should I stick with my current setup or sell and go with the 9070XT with a 1440P monitor?

Thanks!

Tech Support Switched from a 4060 to a 8GB 9060 XT, terrible preformance.

I have 16gb DDR5, and a i5-13600kf. Im playing on a tv 1080p 60hz. All of my games run absolutely terribly, i deleted all the old drivers and nvidia applications with DDU, deleted all the shader caches, reinstalled games, verified the integrity of files, nothing has shown me any preformance improvement. Do i return the card?

Discussion But what actually is up with Radeon drivers?

I switched to AMD in 2023 with a 7800XT. First non-Nvidia GPU since 2008z Overall, I have been very happy. 99% of my games just work fine no issues, but over the past few months, that 1% is getting more frustrating to fix.

1- at some point, DX 7/8 games stopped working in fullscreen. they either cant stay fullscreen on run at 1 fps. this is across multiple games on diff engines, its only dx7/8 games seemingly. what on earth broken this? (confirmed a driver rollback fixes this)

2- at some point Eyefinity broke aspect ratio for non 1:1 pixel content. so the game running at full res is fine, but cutscenes, intro videos, credit videos with Eyefinity enabled run at a squished 9:16 ration in the middle like a phone screen. again a driver rollback fixes this.

3- its been almost a decade but Eyefinity STILL does not let you set bezel adjust resolutions? Nvidia surround is a pain to enable, its so great that Eyefinity can be set to auto enable when a game launch's, vs Nvidia's nonsense where you have to shutdown certain apps and enable it manually each time. but it feels like a half baked implementation to have to go find the Eyefinity pro tool exe and manually set bezel correct every time. why not finish the implementation into the driver? its like they did half and gave up. a driver rollback will also fix this, but the last driver that does this correctly does nit support my 7800xt so no luck here

4- can we really STILL not force vsync in direct x games? again many older games that are direct x have no in game vsync, and rely on drivers to force vsync on. but this does not work on AMD for direct X games, only open gl. so you are forced into using third party tools to do this like dirext3d overrider or rtss.

like i said i like my 7800xt, but come on, these things are somewhat frustrating. i know these are probably niche things but mostly they are all things that used to work fine.

a week ago i was playing game of thrones sequel and my gpu is good right after i off it and rest for like 4days my gpu won't turn now, when i opened inside i saw that the thermal pads/paste are dried and damaged so i had to changed it into subzero which ai recommended i didn't know what was wrong so i removed the pink pads on vrm(on the 2nd photo) and replaced it with the subzero 1mm, for the 8vram i replaced it with 0.5mm which is good but still im having a snow artifact and green screen on my monitor while having on and off continuously, so i had to replaced it with the arctic (on 1st the photo) because ai said it's better quality, i was happy cause i boot my pc perfectly but it's overheating so i click ctrl + window + shift + b to reset the gpu and sadly it went on and off again, so i decided to delete the driver which ai said and still my pc is now dead, i lost a lot of money and idk how to fix this gpu, it's healthy tho just bad pads i think. i need help and the only available materials i have is the arctic 3p pads : (((

Gigabyte RX 9070 OC Hotspot

Post image

I bought a prebuilt 4 months ago and have since learned about the dreaded hotspot on the Gigabyte models. Haven't had any issues thus far, but with a delta and ambient temp of 27 is this something that I should be concerned about? Case is a Lian Li A3 and do not have any room for intake fans below the GPU, CPU 7800x3d. *9070 XT OC. TIA

Tech Support 8060s FSR4

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I had some questions about fsr4 running on the 8060s (Strix Halo). From my understanding, FSR4 isn’t supported on APU’s yet but for some reason, I’m getting the option to enable it in some games. The thing is though, is that even though it says I can enable it, it still looks like fsr3 to me. Anyone with a strix halo device experiencing similar issues? Thanks.

Guys if given a choice during RMA between XFX 7900XTX magnetic air edition or 9070 XT. Do I go for 9070XT or do I stick with my 7900XTX? Any suggestions. I mainly do 4K gaming on my 48" Inch TV screen.

Error 43 and force restarts

Hello everyone for the last weeks i had problem with my AMD RX 6600M driver while playing cs2. In some cases in just freezes my game and randomly restarts my laptop and when it boots back it shows error code 43 in device manager. I tried to use amd cleanup utility and ddu and reinstall newest version of driver and the 26.8.1 also. With the newest it ends up with the 43 error and the 26.8.1 after instalation showd it cant find the OpenCL.dll and i rly dont know what to do anymore. If anyone has some tips or fixes or knows about some older driver versions which might work I would be really gratefull.

Bencharks talking about VRAM usage don't seem to talk about how much of the VRAM is cooked before the game even starts or how their test rig is probably using less VRAM than your full blown system!!!

Post image
1 Upvotes

I noticed the other day in Cyberpunk with 4k ray tracing and FSR turned on and settings set in a way that I could average around 100FPS that I was running out of VRAM and I was kind of surprised. Since I have 16GB I'm like DAMN seriously.

Now I had already known that some of my VRAM was cooked by stuff that I could potentially get off the VRAM if I ran a dual monitor setup with the desktop set to a monitor connected to my CPUs iGPU. But thats a lot of effort. So anyways I look into it and WTF 3GB on Windows IoT Enterprise 11? WTF... thats with a clean reboot! So I started closing applications that I didn't need and sure enough I closed more than 1GB worth of applications and problem solved. But how would I deal with this if I only had 8GB of VRAM.

I've googled and asked Ai and there are claims I can move some of this stuff over to iGPU without a second monitor but I think that info is wrong. Yeh I know Ai is stupid but its only stupid because people on reddit or other places are stupid and answered incorrectly and it believed them for some reason. Anyways, joking but not entirely.

Has anyone else put time and effort into resolving this without changing to linux I don't want to hear about that. I run it on another machine and I'm not using it on this one.

Tech Support RX 9070 XT is amazing, but I’ve been dealing with some annoying driver issues

I recently upgraded from an RTX 3050 laptop to an RX 9070 XT, and honestly, the performance has been amazing. I’m now gaming at 1440p, and this is exactly the kind of GPU I was looking for. I can jump into almost any game and enjoy the graphics without constantly worrying about whether my GPU can handle it.
However, I’ve been experiencing a few annoying issues, and I’m wondering if other RX 9070 XT owners have dealt with the same things.
Ghosting and stuttering: In some games, I have to toggle certain settings on and off through AMD Adrenalin to get rid of ghosting or stuttering. Sometimes everything works fine, but other times I have to mess around with the settings again.
League of Legends: I can’t seem to play in borderless mode because the screen turns into a colorful checkerboard with random colored pixels. Switching to fullscreen fixes the issue, but it’s still weird and annoying.
Game compatibility and updates: Some games seem to have issues until a driver update comes out. For example, I’ve been waiting for the official driver support for The Witcher 3’s next-gen update situation to improve. I know I could try installing an optional driver from AMD’s website, but I’d rather wait for the recommended release. I’m not sure why some of these fixes take so long.
Despite these issues, I’m genuinely happy with the card. In the country where I live, the RTX 5070 was around the same price as the RX 9070 XT, while the RTX 5070 Ti cost roughly 30% more. At those prices, the 9070 XT felt like a no-brainer for the kind of gaming I wanted.
I don’t regret buying it at all, but I wish the software experience were a little smoother.
For other RX 9070 XT owners:
Have you experienced similar ghosting, stuttering, or graphical glitches?
Are these typical AMD driver issues, or could something be wrong with my setup?
Do you usually stick to recommended drivers, or do you install optional drivers when a game has problems?
I’d appreciate any advice or suggestions!

Tech Support 9070 Coil Whine - normal or defective?

Hello,

I am new into the pc building world and I am using an Asrock Steel Legend x870 mb, Ryzen 9800 CPU, MSI 750w psu and the Adrock Challenger 9070 GPU. The video is how much noise the gpu makes, and this is just loading into FO76 and then walking around. I've already set the unit to be both -20% power limit and -75 voltage offset to try and mitigate.

Is this level of noise normal for this unit? I'm in the process of exchanging this for the powercolor hellhound 9070 variant but I want to know what I should be expecting, because this level of noise is a non starter and absolute deal breaker. Thanks.

EDIT: THANK YOU EVERYONE! I did some quick cable maintenance and cleared the area completely and the noise is gone. I appreciate everyone's comments, you're the best!

9070 XT Timeouts

Hi everyone, I am posting this because I am running out of ideas and I would love some help from people that know more than I do.

My setup:

  • Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • ASUS TUF GAMING B850M-PLUS, BIOS 1681
  • 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance 6000 CL30, EXPO enabled
  • ASUS Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB
  • AMD Software 26.3.1 (driver 32.0.23033.1002)
  • Windows 11 Pro 26H2 (build 26300.9711)

The card is under a year old.

What happens is this: the picture goes completely black, but the computer is still alive. Windows sounds keep playing, Discord keeps working, and in a call people still hear me fine, my mic is still picking me up. It is only the display that dies. Sometimes it comes back on its own after a few seconds, sometimes I have to force restart the PC, and sometimes the PC does not come back with the card at all.

That last case is the one that worries me. After a few of these, Windows comes back and the GPU is simply not there. It falls back to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter and nothing I try brings it back, just restarting the Windows "fix" the issue.

I went through my event logs and this is not only a cosmetic stutter thing. There are LiveKernelReports WATCHDOG dumps (TDR timeouts) on 26/07, 17/09, 19/09, 05/10, 07/10 and 08/10, and on several of those dates the machine had to be reset by hand (Kernel-Power 41).

Most of the issues are DX12 related.

AMD support suggested to disable hardware acceleration from things or HAGS.

Things I have already ruled out as much as I can:

  • Memtest86 overnight, 4 passes, 0 errors.
  • OCCT VRAM test, completely clean.
  • I have never undervolted anything, GPU and CPU are at stock (just PBO).
  • Stop windows update, remove internet, perform DDU.
  • I have tried several Adrenalin versions by now. 26.3.1 is the one that behaves the best for me, but it still lets one through every once in a while, so I do not think swapping drivers is the answer.

I have seen the same thing mentioned by quite a few 9070 XT owners and a lot of these "timeouts".

Two things I want to try and I would rather ask before doing it:

  • Disable EXPO profile and try some settings by myself.
  • A clean install of Windows with ReviOS or smthn.

Two smaller questions if anyone has an opinion:

  • ReBAR is enabled on my board. Is that worth turning off to test with a 9070 XT?
  • When the card is not detected after a crash and only comes back with a cold boot, does that point to the GPU being on its way out? I would like to know if I should start looking at warranty before it dies completely.

Thanks a lot in advance for reading.

I finally decided to pull the trigger on 9070XT. I was at work and waiting for the delivery all day and tracking USPS and it was supposed to be left in the dropbox where they leave the key in your mailbox. The delivery kept getting delayed and went past the time USPS normally delivers. I finally get a doorbell ring and I open up my Ring app and it’s my neighbor who I haven’t met yet (just moved to a new rental home 2 months ago). He said hey they put this in my mail dropbox and your address was written on it, so here you go.
Not only was I waiting for my graphics card but my 32 inch OLED was delivered that morning as well but just left wide open next to my door with regular box the monitor comes in, not even packaged in a discrete covered box (ordered from Walmart)

And he saw the 32 inch monitor but left both of the packages there for me. I drove home as fast as I could and brought it inside.

If he hadn’t been honest and brought the package to me, I honestly don’t know how I would’ve recovered it. Same goes for the monitor if it was stolen. My faith in humanity has been restored!

Now I just wait for my PSU to be delivered tomorrow and installation here we go!
