SPECIAL EDITION October 15th Reaction Thread (2026)

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

Hello 2026-2027 cycle MD applicants! Here is your thread for October 15th hype, reactions, and discussion.

Congrats to everyone who's interviewed with MD schools and is patiently waiting for a decision! (Also congrats to those who have been accepted early decision MD or DO.)

October 15th is the first day MD schools are recommended to release acceptances to regular decision applicants, based on AMCAS traffic rules. (Note that some schools do their own thing and may have already sent out acceptances or will send initial acceptances later.)

The mod team wishes you all the best. Manifest those As!!!

Please keep all October 15th discussion and reactions in this thread. If you make an individual post about your acceptance over the next few days, we’ll probably remove it.

Also please don’t lose hope if you haven’t received any interviews or acceptances at this point in the cycle. It’s not over until it’s over, which can be over a year following the opening of AMCAS in May!

SPECIAL EDITION Secondaries Directory (2026-2027)

Welcome to the 2027 application cycle!

AMCAS, AACOMAS, and TMDSAS are all open for submission and currently transmitting to schools. If you've had a chance to submit your primary application and want to get ahead on writing secondary essays, this post is for you.

To track how far along AMCAS is with verification, check the following:

Below are some resources you can use to pre-write essays, track which schools have sent out secondaries, and monitors schools' progress through the cycle.

Admit.org:

Admit has a year-to-year database of which secondary prompts were sent by each school. This is very helpful in tracking current cycle prompts you have not received or predicting whether a school is likely to change their prompts this cycle. Admit also has individual school-specific threads.

Admit secondary essay prompts database

Admit medical school forums

Student Doctor Network (SDN):

SDN has a secondary essay prompts database, an interview feedback database, and school-specific threads. The secondary essay prompts database and school-specific threads are similar to Admit, while the interview feedback database is unique to SDN. You can use it to find information about interview formats, typical interview questions, and overall impressions from each medical school's interview day.

SDN secondary essays prompts database

SDN interview feedback database

School-specific threads:

Once secondaries are sent by schools, users post the prompts into the school-specific threads, and the prompts are edited into the first comment of the thread. If secondaries are not yet posted for the current cycle, you can refer to the prior cycle's thread, the secondary essay database, or Admit for pre-writing.

Reminder of Rule 10: Use school-specific threads for school-specific questions.

The biggest issue with Reddit is that it is not organized to track information longitudinally. Popular posts get buried after a day or two. Even if Admit or SDN are not your preferred platforms, they are set up better for the organization of school-specific information over time. We ask that you use school-specific threads (either on Admit or SDN) for school-specific questions and discussion, sorry.

Consider using CycleTrack!

Created by u/DanielRunsMSN and /u/Infamous-Sail-1, both MD/PhD students, "CycleTrack is a free tool for creating school lists, tracking application cycle actions, visualizing your cycle with graphs and contributing your de-identified data to make the application process more transparent and more accessible."

Good luck this cycle everyone!

Being the first person in ur fam to pursue medicine is not for the weak. My name got on a Nature paper this month and my fam has no idea how special and huge it is for me. They too focused on how much they dislike I am taking a gap year 💀 💀 Its so difficult to explain how long and intense the process of getting into med school is to ppl who arent in the medical field

Count your days MMI. I blanked on a follow up question to the prompt. Like actually blanked. Caught me so off guard. It wasn’t even a hard follow up just got nervous and blanked. I saw the timer counting down for the next interview and ran out of time but the interviewer said, “Oh, it’s ok we have another minute”. And even the additional time didn’t help. I apologized and said that I’m unable to answer and that I would have to pass on it. “Pass on it” you absolute idiot. It came out faster than I could think. Nothing I can do now. gg interviewer, you got me.

😡 Vent Doctors out here who made it. Are some people just born naturally book smart without trying?

Like I’m freaking taking Chem1 , bio 1 and like I’m studying freaking the whole day and would be lucky to scrap by the classes with an B for chem and a- for bio. Like how are people pulling perfect 4.0 gpas and barely studying. Like I know I probably have ADHD but gosh dang man, a lot of this info doesn’t click for me right away. Idk what’s going if I don’t have the right methods, slow or what but yeah.

I’m also a non traditional student currently so not sure just overall is this is a bigger learning curve for me than what I expected

❔ Discussion Ranking pre-reqs based on how useful they are in medical school as a current student

Post image

Some clarifications: "English" is referring to high-level writing/literature classes, rather than basic language courses, which would obviously be super helpful if you're not familiar with English.

Also, genetics, microbiology, anatomy/physiology, cell/molecular biology, and other courses under the bio umbrella would probably go into "have a good foundation" but technically aren't individual pre-reqs, so I didn't include them.

🗨 Interviews please don't overanalyze your interviews

in light of several stressful interview posts i've seen, i thought i'd share one of my interview experiences from last cycle, where my interviewer at one of my top choices told me i was a poor fit for mdphd and would be a bad doctor and a bad PI (literally verbatim).

i thought i was never getting in and cried after. anyway, i got into that particular school and had 9 As total 🤷‍♂️

it really isn't over until you get an R.

🌞 HAPPY My first A! Non trad, no volunteering, no research, no clinical hours

Received THE call from my top choice MD school after interviewing in September. I am on cloud 9, I genuinely never thought this would be possible for me.

510 mcat, 3.92 undergrad GPA, 4.0 masters, no volunteering hours, no research, only 12 hours of shadowing, no clinical working hours either. Just public health work experience!!!!

Don’t let the subs scare you. You don’t need 1000+ hours of everything and a 515 to have a chance, be yourself and have a passion and it will all work out!!!!!!!

☑️ Extracurriculars Does anyone know of niche pre med things i could do over the summer or semester?

• Upvotes

I feel like my overall app is solid, but nothing stands out/ is unique. I have hit all the categories ( clinical experience, research, volunteering) but I feel like i look like any other candidat.

That hurt. I really liked the school and I thought I did well in the interview. Trying to ignore the little voice that says there's no hope if I can't get into my state school. ☹️

☑️ Extracurriculars If you have a clinical job is clinical volunteering helpful?

E.g is it ok to prioritize only nonclinical volunteering if I already have a clinical job (where I have more hands on clinical experience than I would get being a hospital volunteer) or is it a red flag?

❔ Question Am I not fit for medical school?

• Upvotes

Hello! I am currently in my gap year(s). I just graduated in July with a 4.0 in biomedical science. Despite my GPA, I’m having my doubts about how qualified I am. When I was in school I struggled with an overwhelming amount of anxiety and depression. As a result, I lost 35 pounds, lost my period, and lost lots of hair. The last 1.5 time at my University was filled with lots of crying. I would either wake up and cry, cry on my drive to school, sometimes tear up during lecture (due to all the overwhelming information I was trying to take in), or struggle to study through my tears when I got back home. I felt like school was suffocating me and I had no other choice but to study. I had no life, or barely any thoughts, outside of school. Feeling such a way is very scary and dark. I was totally miserable. I did not know how to chill out and was constantly in fight or flight mode. Honestly, college brought me trauma and a mental state I never want to return to (but probably will when I go back to school).

Luckily I made it though! I told myself I would take a month to totally relax and then start studying for the MCAT. During that month I became a lot happier and had less anxiety. Come September, I started reviewing gen chem. However, I’ve barely made any progress and feel extremely unmotivated. It’s so hard to get home from work and sit down and study. This is the first time in my life where I technically don’t have to do anything once I’m home. When I was in school, I felt trapped and felt like I had to constantly study. Not to sound lazy, but now that I have an opportunity to relax after a day of working, it’s hard to choose to do more work and study.
Also, even planning out how to study made me feel so anxious, overwhelmed, and hopeless before even truly starting to study.

I love to learn but it gets to a point where I can’t function any longer if I’m constantly stressed and unhappy. Only spending 3 years in college has left me totally burnt-out. I know medical school is a lot longer, more content heavy, and more difficult. I’m a hard worker, but I don’t know if I have it in me to do it.
I would like honest answers from various positions on this. Thank you!

☑️ Extracurriculars (rant and question) what the hell guys i JUST GOT HERE

so I'm a freshman premed, AKA just halfway through my first semester of college ever. why do i already know other freshman premeds in the campus EMT unit, with e-board positions, the whole shebang??? I was happy with myself for getting a research opportunity and thought I was doing pretty good, only to find out that others have research opportunities AND leadership already????? i don't even know what club I like enough to be consistent with yet????

(kind of rhetorical questioning) am i behind? or is everyone else just insanely cracked? but then if everyone else is insanely cracked, doesn't that mean I am behind???

(actual question) sorry guys just had to see if this is a common experience or not!! is this a shared thing with any of you guys? Am I cooked if I don't have a leadership role lined up already? im so scared of the future 😭

🌞 HAPPY Motivation For Those That Need This

By no means was I a perfect applicant. I retook the MCAT x3, improving everytime but not scoring higher than sub 510. I had okay stats, applying with a 3.6x GPA and a couple Cs. I also scored the lowest quartile on CASPER (lmao). But I applied and shot my shot at MD schools, and it worked out.

Don't give up on yourself. Keep pushing and trust the process. Becoming a doctor is an incredible goal that requires everything you've got, but the hard work will pay off in the end!

🤠 TMDSAS Does anyone know of any part-time clinical jobs in the Houston area that are hiring?

I just recently moved back to the Houston area to take some postbac classes, and with my current schedule I am not able to work full-time. I have not had luck finding a position in Houston through Scribe America, which I find so shocking. Regardless, if anyone knows of any clinics looking for a scribe or willing to train on the job for medical assistant please let me know.

🗨 Interviews Dry interview

I had an interview where the interviewer had my application in front of her and just read out the role titles and asked "what was that?" with 0 reaction. Is that normal?? The intro session had the admin people falling over themselves to be like "we've seen you on paper but now we want to get to know your ~personality~" too lmao

❔ Question Clinical and research opportunities as a philosophy major

I'm interested in doing philosophy for my premed. I understand things like required courses needing to be fit in, but how will philosophy affect opportunities or ability to get clinical and research hours?

😡 Vent thinking about quitting my job but i have no acceptance yet

I'm lucky enough to get this job with no cert but that means they can do whatever they want with my schedule so my hours are unpredictable and have gotta very inconsistent since I started "full time". I got a LOR here i guess but overall im not happy and im 23 so i dont want to waste my time not earning money while my friends make money but im not sure what my next move is.

I have three interviews but like im worried if i end up with no acceptances then what do i do. I'm not sure if i should just find another job thats unrelated to my goals or a job that helps me in some way for being a doctor.
