Looking for the best phone for hotspot + USB tethering on AT&T? (Using weBoost Dash vehicle booster cradle.)

I'm hoping for some suggestions on a phone to use as a dedicated, internet source for my computers at around 10-15 hours each day, and I'd like your suggestions on a phone for hotspot. Or more info if this is even a good option for our needs. We would be using it while traveling for about two months at a time. Will have one video call at a time but generally don’t use more than 3-5g a day. Our AT&T plan has a robust phone tethering plan so would like to use that.

What I need:
Continuous, stable tethering over both Wi-Fi hotspot and USB, working on both Windows and Mac without special software
A hotspot that never auto-shuts off when idle (iPhones drop it when nobody's connected no matter what settings we try)
A phone that won't overheat or throttle while plugged in long term.
4G LTE is fine. I don't need 5G, and it doesn't help upload, so I don't want to pay extra for it.
Used or older is fine

My constraints:
I'm on AT&T with a phone-line deal, so the SIM has to stay in a phone, not a router or hotspot device. Right now we are using a digital sim.
I'll also use it while traveling in Mexico, so band support and Mexican carriers matter. Not been an issue with AT&T and iPhone in the past but I’m unfamiliar with androids.
Upload speed and disconnecting are my main weak spots.

My current setup sucks: An iPhone SE (2nd gen) as an AT&T hotspot in a weBoost Dash vehicle booster cradle constantly disconnecting and not great speeds. I usually get about 20 Mbps down and 4 up in weak-signal areas, and the hotspot continuously disconnects if a computer or phone briefly goes inactive. I’d love to be able to use our old Nighthawk 4g hotspot but our current plan won’t cover a dedicated hotspot with the same data allotment.

Phone I'm considering: A used unlocked Pixel 8a (US model, G8HHN or GKV4X), it open to any suggestions.
Questions:
Is the Pixel 8a a good fit for 24/7 tethering, or is there a better older phone?
Does it run hot or throttle when plugged in and hotspotting all day? Has anyone used the "Limit to 80%" charge setting for this?
With a Pixel USB tethering work on a Mac and Windows?
Can you disable the hotspot auto-off on the Pixel so it stays on indefinitely.
Any suggestions for boosting upload while keeping the SIM in a phone?
Maybe a completely better option?

Thanks!

Recomendaciones smartphone compacto

Recomendaciones smartphone compacto

Buenas a tod@s.

Xiaomi 17.

Vivo x200 pro mini.

Vivo x300.

OPPO x9s pro.

Oneplus 13t o 13s.

Oneplus 15t.

What’s the luckiest way your phone has survived a drop without a scratch?

We’ve all seen screens crack from basically nothing, but what’s the worst drop your phone somehow survived unscathed?

Concrete stairs, slipping into a weird spot, dropping it face down, what’s your luckiest moment?

Question Android Roaming doesn't work

So, my mom's friend is visiting here in Korea, and for some reason roaming doesn't work. She says her plan includes unlimited roaming abroad, and I read on the company's website that they do have an agreement in Korea, so it should work.

I've tried these things:

1. Made sure airplane mode isn't on

2. Made sure roaming is on and allowed to be used abroad

3. Removing and inserting the SIM in a different slot and tried restarting the device

4. Manually selecting different network operators. It says "Connected" every time, but I can't go online.

What confuses me is that I enabled hot-spot to my device. I couldn't go online, but I could see the amount of MB my device used up from her plan go up.

I'm not really a tech-girlie, so i don't know what else to try. If it's important, she has a Samsung, I don't know the exact model

Sorry if this is the wrong server for this

Question Android Need info regarding gaming temps

I only recently got a OnePlus 15. I don't play games on phones generally but I wanted to give it a try. I just wanted to check if my gaming temps are in line with what I should be getting.

I played The Division Resurgence at max settings and 60 fps for around 30 mins and the temps reached 42°C. The back of the phone was very warm to the touch.

Is this in line with what I should expect? I was playing in a 24°C room with no back cover and no charging. Using ColorOS 17 beta.

Upgrading from Galaxy S21 FE, budget ~€600 (Italy): is the Xiaomi 17T Pro 512GB a good deal?

Hi everyone! I'm looking to replace my S21 FE. I've been disappointed with its cameras, battery life (I can't use 120Hz without it draining quickly) and durability, and the 128GB fills up even though I barely shoot video.

What I need:

Excellent battery life (I'm a dentistry student and often away from home all day, plus I have a long-distance relationship, so lots of calls and video chats and long travels)

Very good cameras

Strong performance and long software support (5+ years)

512GB storage

Android only

Budget: around €600, can stretch a little.

I found a Xiaomi 17T Pro 512GB for €600 at a local store. Is that a good price, and how are its battery and cameras in real use? I was also considering the Oppo Find X9, but the X10 seems to be coming soon. Is it worth waiting, or are there other phones in this range I should look at?

Thanks in advance!

PS: I wrote the original text myself and used AI to tidy up the English, since it's not my first language.

Whatshouldiget? help me choose

so i was recommended motorola 70 edge and oppo reno 15 fs. both were said to be very solid phones for their price. ive heard motorola has a way better processor, but has weak battery compared to oppo. so how's it, which one would be generally better to buy?

i use my phone for music, daily normal use like texting and checking information, occasional rpg gaming, and during trips i tend to take a lot of photos during the day and check gps so i suppose battery would be important

thanks in advance

Question General Need Advice On Affordable Refurbished Phones

Hello I want some guidance on current phones, I've had the same phone for 5 years now and am looking for a replacement, specifically something like a refurbished phone from a year or two ago, I'm upgrading from a Samsung galaxy S10e.

Here is what is important to me in a replacement
- Cheap, needs to be affordable, around 300 maximum but in 200 ranage is preferable.
- Needs same level of storage, 128GB.
- Needs a decent camera.
- An audiojack is highly preferred, though my research suggests that's becoming rare.
- Needs to realistically keep having apps work for the os/system for the next few years
- Not willing to buy apple, would prefer to stay with Samsung.

Also leads on places to buy would be helpful, I'm in Canada, I have been checking Amazon but it's listings have been odd, I've been checking their Galaxy a15 listings, which other sites say should have an audio jack but Amazon says they don't, so makes me suspect Amazon listings may not be accurate.

Ultimately I'll go with what seems best but I thought I should ask a community who has more experience than myself and see if I can get any wisdom about the topic.

Question General Need new phone

My now almost 7 year old iPhone 11 has been acting up lately and I think enough time has passed for me to get as much value out of this phone as I could. It still works fine but the battery heats up even after 20 minutes of light use. This is my second phone (first phone was the iphone 5) so I'm not a phone guru at all and require some help in choosing my next one. What phone is worth buying in the big 26?

Idm switching from apple to android by any means, it seems that as of lately android is just superior to the iphone in general. Any advice on which phones to research more into? I've been eyeing the new xiaomi 17 lineup and it seems pretty good but maybe you guys have firsthand experience with other phones that are also worth looking into.

2 things to keep in mind:

  1. I'd like to be able to keep the next phone again for 5/6/7 years just like I have done with my previous and current phone.
  2. I don't want to spend an absurd amount of money (budget is flexible assuming the phone in question is truly sensational)

Any help is appreciated.

Hi, help please

I have mainly had oppos and Samsung's for each phone I've had, but I was just wondering, what phones are good? I need it mainly for just everyday things, like some phone games, photos, pictures and all that. But I was wondering, what phones are durable, have a lot of space, are fast, and take good photos? (Obviously I'd prefer the others over photos, but I do like photography as I take a lot of photos for my sister) My current phone is an oppo a5 pro 5g. I don't mind the camera, but I'd like better if possible, I'm also learning coding (mainly on my laptop, but I use my phone too).I also need it to have good service, because I live on a farm, sorry if I've explained this bad, I have dyslexia and I'm hoping it's legible

I forgot to say a price, anywhere around $1000 or below, my current Oppo was okay and it was only around $300, but if it's a really good phone I'll obviously look at going higher if needed
