General Question I’m getting really fed up of mice coming into our house and I’m very close to selling

We continuously have mice keep coming in our house, they are clearly coming in through the front of the house straight into the kitchen where they are often found under the kick boards

My partner spent hours going over the inside and outside and sealing up any holes he could find, we cannot find anymore but clearly there is one. But it’s impossible to find.

I’m revolted, we do keep putting traps down and they’re often found dead in the trap but one/two has been caught in the living room and i have to spend hours cleaning the house properly.

I have two cats, it’s not stopping them.

I’m revolted and I’m really tempted to sell the house, what can I do? I have a toddler and I’m 37 weeks pregnant my house is a f**** health hazard and i am sick to death of it. I’m petrified we’re going to get hantavirus one of these days,

What can I do, I want this to stop, please help I’m absolutely desperate.

Roaches What´s up with german cockroaches?

I have noticed in this sub that German cockroaches are the most feared of them all. I don´t really get why.

In Belgium all non-indiginous cockroaches are a problem. German, American, Surinam, Australian,... We do most often encounter German cockroaches, but they aren´t feared more than other species. Damage is the same for all species.

Why are German cockroaches more of a problem than other cockroaches in your specific country?

Please help with these gross little worms

Post image

We moved into our 50 year old house last summer and ever since the rain started up in the fall, I find these gross little jerks inside almost daily. They’re usually near the front door. I talked to a pest control company and he said all we can do is get sprays. Anyone have any other tips? Other than replacing the front door which is old and drafty (and I assume that’s where they’re crawling through but I don’t actually know) I’m not sure what else to do.

Bed bug stain?

Found one bug late last night. No bites. No dark marks. No egg shells. Sprayed raid just to be safe and washed and dried the sheets. But are these signs of bed bug stains?

General Question Is this mouse or rat poop?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I found this on my kitchen floor. I feel like it looks too big to be mouse poop? It looks like some kind of poop though. I’m not sure though. I can’t find anything else. It was just this piece. I have a one year old and it was right next to where her toys are. I freaking out to be honest.

Edit: located in Nevada

Crawl Space Rodents - Vapor Barrier

• Upvotes

I've had a pest control company focused on rodents at my house in the Sierra Nevada mountains, doing regular checks. They seem to have sealed the interior of the house (no rodent activity inside) but crawl space activity seems to continue. In May they trapped a few rodents and discovered an entry point which was sealed. After that, we had a quiet period for a while and then they found a broken crawl space vent a few weeks ago at September end (no rodents found then). Last week, they found a rodent in a trap in the crawl space and holes/chew marks in the 6 mil vapor barrier down there. They are saying they think they are tunneling under the house to get into the crawl space and have some pictures of holes in the yard near the foundation. They are recommending doing a 20 mil vapor barrier in the crawl space to keep them out, noting that they have not seen any rodents able to get through the 20 mil barrier they use in other properties and noting it would be covered under warranty if they did. Thoughts on this?

Request for Veterinary/Experts Consultation on Rodent Behavior for Computer Engineering Thesis

• Upvotes

We are Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering students from STI College Cubao working on our thesis titled "SonoShield: Ultrasonic Pest Control System for Building Facility". Our prototype uses piezoelectric transducers to emit ultrasonic waves designed to deter rats and mice without using chemical pesticides.

We are looking for a veterinarian with knowledge of rodent behavior to observe our prototype testing via an online video call. During a 15- to 20-minute session, we will show you the live test case and ask for your professional evaluation of the rats' and mice's physical reactions and avoidance behaviors when exposed to the ultrasonic frequencies. With your permission, we will record the call and include your assessment as expert validation data in our thesis documentation.

We can schedule the call at your most convenient time this week. If you are available to assist us, please let us know what date and time work best for you

Unanswered Pantry Moth Problem – Why Am I Catching So Many Moths Above My Stove Vent Where There Is No Food?

Post image
• Upvotes

I've been dealing with a persistent pantry moth problem in my kitchen for several months, and I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out what's going on.

I've placed pantry moth traps in three different sections of my kitchen:

  • Section A: Contains cereal, coffee, and other pantry items.
  • Section B: Contains NO food. This cabinet is located directly above my range hood/stove exhaust fan, which vents to the outside.
  • Section C: Contains flour, cooking spices, and other dry food items.

Here's the strange part:

  • Section A: Maybe 1 moth caught per month.
  • Section B: Consistently catches about 2 moths per DAY, and this has been going on for months.
  • Section C: Maybe 1 moth caught per month.

Section B is by far the worst, even though there's absolutely no food stored there.

What I've tried in Section B:

  • Thorough cleaning
  • Vacuuming the cabinet and surrounding areas
  • Spraying insecticide
  • Using a portable steam cleaner to get into cracks and crevices

Despite all this, the moths keep appearing in the trap above the stove vent.

My questions:

  1. Could the moths be breeding or hiding somewhere inside the range hood, exhaust duct, or surrounding wall cavities?
  2. Could they be entering from outside through the exhaust vent?
  3. Is it possible the moths are originating elsewhere in the kitchen but are particularly attracted to the trap in Section B?
  4. Would caulking and sealing all the small cracks and crevices help, or would I just be covering up the real problem?
  5. Is there something obvious I'm overlooking?

I'm starting to wonder whether I'm simply not cleaning deeply enough, or whether there's a hidden source I haven't found.

I'd really appreciate advice from pest control professionals or anyone who's dealt with a similar situation. Why would the cabinet with no food consistently catch so many more moths than the cabinets actually containing food?

Thanks in advance!

General Question Mouse Entry

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi all, hoping to get an easy solution here. We’ve been getting mice inside with the season changing. Our exterminator put some bait traps in the basement and I went around the house with Xcluder fill cloth.

I was in the backyard today and saw one of them pop there head out of this gap in my siding. It’s where the central air coil and radon power line go inside the house. My exterminator told me not to fill that with the steel wool/cloth since it’s a fire hazard with the coil… some sorry or reaction? And I know if I use spray foam they’re just gonna eat through it. What’s my best route on how to seal this up? There’s some sort of black sealant that was obviously put there at some point but it’s eroded by now. Only 1.5 years into this house so I have no idea what they did previously. Thanks in advance!

Mouse or rat living in kayak on back porch

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have either a rat or mouse living in this pink kayak on my back porch. I haven’t been able to get a good look to see which it is. It’s at least 6-7 inches long. My wife and I spend a lot of time out here and would rather not share the space. We also have (ironically enough) a rat terrier that we don’t want ending up trying to get to it and getting bit or something. How can we humanely discourage him from returning? We definitely don’t want to unalive him

Gnats!

Please for the love of god how do I get these gnats to go away. We just noticed them inside the house about a month ago around the time they harvested the cornfields I don’t know if that has anything to do with it but they are everywhere inside. The two pictures that I attached are them on the outside of the house by the gutters. From the description that I matched with the Internet it looks like they could be fungus gnats. Thank you!

Terro bait- first time using. Is this right

Post image

It’s been super hot here- and we noticed ants coming in our house. We’ve cleaned everything- used safe ant spray over and over again (peppermint). They just seem to be coming in everywhere in all the cracks. We left for the day and out this in our bathroom. Seems like they’re all just dead in the trap. Aren’t they supposed to take this bait back to the queen? Is this a certain type of ant? Help wanted. We’ll see what happens

A can of fruit exploded in the kitchen cabinet. I cleaned it up and have been cleaning soon after cooking but these won’t go away, after like a month. I find them around the bathroom where there are no food sources that I know of.

Type of Fly

Post image
2 Upvotes

We have small infestation of these - kill them during the day and they re-emerge

What we have done:

  • Cleaned all drains
  • Cleaned all moist areas in the kitchen
  • Put away sponges
  • Cleaned sink edges and all edges of backsplash
  • Cleaned dishwasher lines
  • Check condensate lines

What they do - hover and land on vinegar traps but rarely enter

Do not land on yellow sticky traps

Do not land on UV traps

Attracted to TV

Fly immediately do not skuttle

Slow fliers

Some have a reddish abdomen but not all

Seem to be around moisture

EDIT - Slightly better photo : https://imgur.com/a/EHm6FtR
