Online/Virtual [3 June 2023, Free, Mod/Rule] Sales posts are NOT allowed here, selling your own event tickets or trying to get $ for tix = get banned. 🔨

Hi all, with summer just about here now in June 2023, I’m glad this subreddit’s “second wind” since mid-spring in April 2023 is working as intended for you all to discover fun events or promote events you’re affiliated with in New York City!

However there’s been a recent influx of users coming on this subreddit selling tickets to events to personally profit off it. Now the main focus of this subreddit is to promote events across New York City which is fine, but we won’t facilitate a platform to sell your tickets and gain some money off that. In other cases, it’s spam, and sometimes not worth the trouble on this subreddit.

If sales posts don’t belong on r/NYC or r/NewYorkCity, r/AvesNYC, or r/FoodNYC per their subreddit rules (or most other local NYC/borough subs), they certainly don’t belong here. So as a reminder & new-ish rule …

This subreddit is not a home to sell (or resell) your own tickets to events/concerts/etc in the city, same applies on buying someone else’s tickets, even ticket swaps here aren’t permitted. If you want to sell your own tickets to events in NYC, consider posting on r/NYList where general buying/selling posts belong, r/AvesNYC_Tix to buy/sell tickets for EDM/raves/dance events, on r/NYCConcerts, where buying/selling posts for concerts belong, there’s also r/BroadwayTickets to sell your Broadway or other performance tickets too. That way people can still be interested if so desired. Do your own due diligence as always buying goods of the internet.

Moderation’s been fairly lax given it’s a chill sub, but there won’t be any hesitancy to ban people for that. One and only opportunity you’d do so, you’ll be permanently banned.

Have a wonderful summer, and stay golden folks! ☀️

TL-DR: Promoting your events here is fine, and the primary goal of this subreddit. Selling your own individual tickets to events are not permitted here, don’t use this subreddit to get rich, and the last thing moderators want to do is play whack-a-mole with scammers if a sale goes south. Other communities exist for this to sell tickets for concerts, sporting events, raves/music, etc. Break this rule only once = a permanent ban.

Edit (7/17/2025): Added r/BroadwayTickets as a place where selling Broadway/performances are allowed.

Edit (9/3/2025): Amended Rule 2/this post to include that ticket swaps aren’t allowed here either.

Brooklyn skip the small talk in manhattan and brooklyn

Get cozy this fall with Skip the Small Talk - it’s a chill, sincere event focused on connection! We will be at Town Hall Collaborative!

It’s a guided conversation event—think speed-friending vibes, but calmer and more intentional.

By popular demand, we also have speed dating events coming up.

You rotate through short conversations with prompts that skip past surface-level small talk. It’s structured enough to make it easy, but relaxed enough to feel natural.

Most people come alone. The crowd tends to be thoughtful, open, and just… normal humans who want more community.

Here’s the link if you’re curious:

Manhattan Small Manhattan meetup for those figuring out their next chapter (Wednesday 10/19 @ Central Park, 2pm, free!)

I recently started a small recurring meetup in Manhattan for people who are at some kind of professional/life inflection point and trying to figure out what they actually want to commit to next.
We've done a couple gatherings so far, usually just 3-5 people around a table for ~90 minutes, and I'd like to slowly bring a few more good people into the group.

It's not really a job-search meetup, networking event, or startup pitch group. The idea is to bring together people who already have meaningful professional, entrepreneurial, creative, or other experience behind them, but are reconsidering what comes next.

—

A little about me: my name is Michael (age 31). In 2024, | left a software engineering job at Meta after ~7 years of working there after becoming somewhat disillusioned with big tech. I proceeded to travel the world with my wife for the last ~1.5 years and taught swing dancing internationally. I'm currently back in NYC, trying to figure out what's next for me, and am struggling to make meaningful progress on discovering what that is (particularly with the comfort of home).

After the suicide of one of their number, three friends attend an experimental form of therapy. In three temporally distinct but interweaving sessions, they decipher their dreams, relive significant moments in their memories, and channel their grief and rage into something made manifest in the material world.

This is my partner's directorial debut and since I won't be able to be there myself I want to drum up as much support and reach as possible!!

Manhattan Bringing NYC food lovers together — Organising random group dinners in Brooklyn & Manhattan 🍽️

Hey everyone!

My friend and I are trying to tackle a challenge so many of us run into living in the city: we are all surrounded by world class food, but it can be surprisingly hard to expand your circle and have genuine, low pressure conversations over a great meal.

To help fix that, we are launching a small community utility pilot project this November 2026 to bring young adults and professionals together around local food.

How it works:
The Setup (Table Matching): We match individuals into tables of 6 based on schedule and location preferences.

The Outings (Local Spots): We book tables at curated, local neighborhood spots across Manhattan and Brooklyn for weekday dinner slots (Monday–Thursday).

The Vibe (Community First): Good food, low stress, and an easy way to meet new people in your area.

We are building our initial community launch pool right now so we can accurately match schedules, dietary restrictions, and location preferences across full tables each week.

🔗 Sign up for the November pilot here: Link Here

We would also love to hear your thoughts or suggestions in the comments: What are your favorite go to neighborhood spots for mid sized groups in Manhattan or Brooklyn?
