After spending half my life in Vietnam, I've come to realize that engine displacement doesn't mean nearly as much as some people think it does. I've seen men on 110cc Honda Waves put more miles on their bikes in a weekend than some self-proclaimed "real bikers" put on their Harleys or BMWs in a year.
And that's not an insult to Harley riders, BMW riders, or anyone who loves big bikes. Ride whatever makes you happy.
But don't tell me that someone on a small scooter or underbone isn't a real motorcyclist just because their bike doesn't have a big engine, a loud exhaust, or enough chrome to blind oncoming traffic.
In Vietnam, motorcycles aren't just expensive toys or weekend hobbies. They're how people live. They're how people work, travel, explore, and get through their everyday lives. And the people riding these little machines often have a depth of experience that has nothing to do with displacement.
The bike doesn't make you a biker. The riding does.
