Help Me! Learning about Milwaukee as a blind person, where is everything?
Hey there. I have no clue what to title this. So I just went with that.
I'm Blind and I'm 23 years old, and I'm working on getting the independence to move out, still working on daily living skills. I live in Waukesha County, and the city that I live in, Muskego, is awful for blind people, you can't walk anywhere, nothing's within walking distance. There's no public transportation. So I want to leave.
I want to learn about Milwaukee, because there's so much to do here, and I'm realizing that I just have no clue where anything is, where the walkable cities are, where are the best places for a Blind person to live?
I guess I have a few questions.
Where is everything? Like I've heard of northside, southside, stuff like that, but I have no clue what encompasses each of those things, where everything is in relation to each other. What cities are included? Like I've heard of Bayview, Shorewood, and I just thought those were separate cities, but apparently they're a part of Milwaukee?
I've heard that there are neighborhoods that I should not go in because it's not safe. I'm white, not sure if that makes a difference. What places should I avoid, what places should I stick to? My mother has always said that the northside is not a place that I should go to, not sure if that's true.
Where are the walkable cities at? I'm probably going to be living in apartments, but I'm not sure where I should start looking. The only option I'm leaning towards is West Allis, because that is where I'm working.
Are there any tactile maps that you know of representing the city? It would be nice to actually feel where everything is.
I think that's all I have for now. Thanks in advance for everything. I just want to learn as much as I can.

China Lights
For those who have gone to China lights, what time did you arrive to get in? We went last weekend but we arrived too late and got stuck in traffic for a while before turning around and going home.

House shaking
This is likely not the right subreddit for this but am curious if anyone has experienced something similar.
I live on the second floor of a house up near UWM on the upper east side. This house is obviously pretty old, I think when I looked it up it was built in the late 1800s.
I have felt the house shake slightly before, but just as a one-off, slight tremor, probably my housemates above or below dropping something. A few minutes ago, me and my roommate met in the hallway to confirm that we had just felt the whole house shake for multiple seconds, twice within a minute. The shaking is a back and forth motion, side to side not front and back of the house if that makes sense.
I’m not sure if one of the girls downstairs have an overnight guest that is somehow causing this or if there was a mysterious earthquake on the upper east side but I am a little bit worried about the structure of this place. Has anyone dealt with anything similar?

Help Me! Area OBGYN recs with experience with autoimmune/similar issues
My wife feels like she’s at wits end trying to get some answers with some issues she’s been having for months now. She is currently seeing a rheumatologist working to determine a potential autoimmune issue based on symptoms.
She is also having some issues she thinks may be related and talking with her gynecologist but is feeling stuck and discouraged that her GYN really is just throwing out whatever ideas they have to see what might “stick” even if they don’t make sense.
Does anyone have some good recommendations on a OBGYN in the area they feel is thorough and willing to explain and explore issues that may be a bit atypical? Hoping to help give some recommendations and help her find someone that she feels is a bit more caring and professional.
Thanks!

Cowboy Boot repair
My father gave me his cowboy boots that he's owned for years and they are near falling apart. He always told me he got them made of alligator from a Mexican man in Texas and wore them all around the country while he was a truck driver. I was wondering if there's any cobbler that has the talent to restore and re-sole a pair of boots in Milwaukee. I'm heading down to Mississippi in December to see my family and kinda wanna surprise him with them when I see him. Suggestions?

So you always wanted to try curling? Here's your chance...
You've watched it in the Olympics. You got mesmerized by the stones gliding down the ice. What the hell is going on with the sweeping and why is the guy at the other end yelling like a madman?
Want to find out?
The Racine Curling Club is holding learn-to-curl sessions this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They'll teach you the basics of curling including delivering the stone, sweeping, scoring and the ethics of curling. We'll play an end (think "inning") as a mini-game to finish the session. If you don't feel you can crouch down into the hack to throw the stone like you've seen due to a bad back or knees, we have alternative delivery methods you can use.
The cost is reasonable, it's a much better first date idea than the Arby's on Miller Parkway, and a heckuva lotta fun. Curlers are some of the friendliest people around - after every match, we "broomstack" - sit around the table and have a beer and solve all the world's problems.
You can sign up for it here.

How do you make friends in this city?
I’m 24F and I grew up in mke but moved away at 11 y.o and moved back around 19 y.o. I work uber full time. I was a cnc lathe precision machinist making missles for the government before but I make more now tbh doing uber. Probably a chronic workaholic. I’ve tried reaching out to old friends from middle school, I’ve picked up a few waitressing jobs but I’ve had a really hard time making friends. I’ve been here for 5 years now and I could maybe count on one hand the things ive done with other people. Being self employed makes it hard. Im tall, thin, blonde and came from a background where i grew up in the system and was handed a lot of rough hands. Many people look at me and say “are you a model”; so ive always had a disconnect with other people and have found it hard making friends. I do photography, love music, can sing, super artistic and have been building a supply of art ive been making to eventually sell at local markets and things. I have lots of siblings (9), love coffee, chronic youtube watcher, love nature, exploring, I have a state park pass. Ive been trying to get pregnant for 2 years now with no luck after a miscarriage and even just knowing how to make friends here would help. I don’t think being this lonely helps. Thanks for reading lol.

All these established bars and restaurants closing down...no one going out anymore...but surely we're not in a recession. Oh how far we've fallen.

Help Me! What should I do for my bday?
My 27th birthday is on Saturday and I don’t know what to do! It’ll be me, husband, and our 7 month old. We’re from here so we’ve done all the “touristy” things many times like domes, public market, art museum, etc…. Also we don’t really drink! Maybe apple picking? Something outdoorsy? We’re in West Allis, but are open to taking a drive!!

Help Me! World Series Game 1 & 2
Hey everyone -born and raised Wisconsinite here that unfortunately moved away from the homeland for work.. However, I’m driving up with my partner for game 1 & 2 this weekend in Milwaukee to support the crew! I know tickets are a long shot so instead I’m looking for advice on ticketed watch parties or advice on good size bars to watch the game? Unfortunately I can’t get in until an hour before game 1, so trying to plan ahead the best I can. Thanks all and go crew!

World Series Traffic
Currently driving eastbound on I94 past American Family field. It’s Wednesday at 5:30pm and traffic is horrendous as usual. With all the construction, exits closed, and lane closures, getting to and from Miller Valley is going to be rough.
I guess the city of Milwaukee had no faith the Brewers were going to be in the World Series.
Time to break out the bicycles, local fans.

Traffic laws
Does anyone in this city actually enforce the traffic laws? My commute home is a nightmare everyday. Is there a place I can call for action? Because it sure as fuck isn’t the police.

Rant❗⚡💥 This happens every single day
Every single weekday there's a looooong line down Howard east of i43. And every single weekday, despite the line not moving and the light going red, everyone must cram as many cars into the middle of the intersection as possible! Why? To get through the light of course! Why wait behind the intersection line for the red light when you can just sit smack dab in the center while adjacent traffic with a green light mean mugs you for 3 minutes? Oh, I'm getting honked at? How dare you?! Can't you see there's no where to go?! /sarcasm
But fr guys, this happens every day. We know this. Either mosey over to a different entrance or chill out. Surprisingly, putting the "rush" in rush hour does not make the hour go by faster.

Is $1300 typical for a 1br+1bath in Bay View?
Looking for apartments specifically in Bay View, where I feel like rent pricing is typically a little more expensive. So I'm curious if $1300-$1350 is standard or a little on the higher end?

Help Me! Changing Froedert OB mid-pregnancy: Dr. Candice Lovell or Dr. Margaret Nixon?
Hello pregnant people and partners of pregnant people!
My current Froedert OB is great, but today she informed me that she will be changing to deliveries-only at the end of the year to spend more time with family. Disappointing, but understandable!
She said Dr. Lovell and Dr. Nixon are options for me to switch to and recommended Dr. Nixon because she has appointments available on the same days, but I WFH and any weekday is fine for me. I’ve seen Dr. Lovell mentioned very positively in some previous Reddit posts about Froedert OBs, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with Dr. Nixon as well.
Open to hearing both positive and negative experiences with both! I’m over 35 and considered an “advanced age” for pregnancy, if that matters lol.
