Register to vote, and vote in the 2024 elections!

On November 5th, Wisconsin will vote not just for President, but for Congress, and for state and local offices. Register and vote so you'll have a say in what kind of country America will be!

In Wisconsin, you must register by October 16th if you wish to register online. You can register here: https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/Register-To-Vote

If you miss this deadline, you can also register in person at your Municipal Clerk's office after this date, or at your polling place on Election Day, November 5th.

Voting in person

Wisconsin allows you to vote early through in-person absentee voting. You can go to any of the ten early voting sites in Milwaukee, request an absentee ballot, and vote your ballot on the spot. There's a location on campus, at the Zelazo Center. In-person absentee voting will be available between October 22nd and November 3rd.

If you prefer, you can vote at your polling place on Election Day, November 5th.

When voting in person, be sure to bring an acceptable form of identification.

Voting by mail

Any Wisconsin voter may choose to vote by mail. Apply for an absentee ballot here.

Ballots must be received by November 5th, so mail your ballot back promptly. You can also return your ballot in person to an early voting center (like the one at the Zelazo Center), or any dropbox in the city.

If you mail your ballot, you can track it here.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

East Tower Swap

Hello! I am looking to swap my West-facing single on floor 7 of Sandburg East for a South (or perhaps East) facing single in East. Because I have plants and want to make sure they have sun, I would prefer floor 7 or higher, but I am open to hearing out other possibilities.

I've been having a really difficult time getting out of bed and making it to my morning classes because my room faces West and is extremely dark in the morning. I think having some more natural sunlight in the morning would greatly help.

My room would be a good fit for a night owl who prefers a darker room in the morning, and likes a cooler room in the day. I should note that the room gets pretty warm from about 3-7:00 PM, but it's pretty cool the rest of the day.

If you're interested in switching, please send me a DM so we can discuss details and work something out. I am pretty busy this week, but I will try to respond as soon as I can. Thank you!

Say If I don’t want to pay for parking and I live on campus and I want to go home for a weekend sometime and want to have a car to do so can you park in UPark long term or is that just for off campus students for the day? If this makes sense.

Biolife Plasma

I just started school here a month ago, and was looking at maybe donating plasma at Biolife. I was wondering what I would need to bring with me to donate as a student? I dorm here but I don't live here year round so I don't think I'd be a resident, but it did say on their website they made exceptions for students. (Also, if you feel there's better alternatives to Biolife I'm open to suggestions as I have heard mixed reviews.)

Before you ask, I did try calling them on the phone but the representative wasn't any help, so I figured SOMEONE here has to have donated before and would have some know how.

Summer at Cambridge Commons

Hi everyone. I think I am going to be in Milwaukee this summer for an internship. I saw that Cambridge Commons offers housing for interns and was wondering if anyone has any experiences doing that. It would be a bit far from my work, but the price doesn't look bad and it would be nice to live with a community. However, if anyone thinks that I might be better off subleasing from another student/some other sublease please let me know.

Help Locating missing children

Hello UWM Reddit users & whoever else,

My name is Mickey McGowan I have two small children 3&1 who are by default Wisconsin family law 767 my children and I have full sole custody legally etc. Their father is largely uninvolved and said ok to us moving out of state. Today around 4/5 he agreed to take them to the playground which became downer woods instead and they departed after agreeing they should be home 6/6:30 a hard 6:30 as the 3 year old is usually sleep early 7. Around 7 I reached out to learn towards 7:30 they were having dinner... Wed already eaten ALLOT but since he never wants to see them I just told myself calm down whatever.after 8 I called I reached out nothing until 9 I hear he has an apartment and hes not returning. Legally only civilly I have custody and the police can do nothing unless I take him to court. He has no proven paternity they were unable to locate him and he has never even wanted to have them more than 2 hours we haven't even hit that time frame yet and now they're gone! I do not mean to drag him in the mud but I am incredibly worried. If you've seen him or my daughters Winter (3) and Penelope (1) please let us know

We live in Shorewood not far from downer woods we frequent UWM campus on scooters allot the children are average sizes and I will attach pictures

If any location is known please share and see that they're hydrated and well.

Soon to be 2&4 I am guessing the apartment is in Milwaukee please please if you see them let me know where location wise my phone I will put in the comments thank you so much

I tried posting this in MILWAUKEE subreddit but the account is too young and was Auto moderated

On-Campus Jobs

Are there really only 15ish open on-campus jobs (as seen on Handshake)? I've been checking and applying regularly since I got access this fall, but this seems absurdly low, even for a smaller school. Is there a separate website for department-specific/desk jobs?

Thanks

MPL Account

Hi everyone,

Would anyone be willing to let me use their Milwaukee Public Library account? I'm a historical researcher writing about Milwaukee's German-American community in the 1940s, and the MPL's newspaper database is only remotely accessible to residents of the city. If anyone would be willing to let me temporarily use their account, please text me at 8457502478. It would be a great help and I'll send $50 with Apple Pay or Venmo.

Bolton Hall Elevators Off?

This is the second weekend I noticed that the elevators at bolton hall were turned off. Not broken, at least no signage indicating such, just turned to the off position (you can see from the keyed on/off system at the Basement elevator its set to "off" for both.)

Anyone know why?

I'm pretty sure this is a giant flashing ADA violation if it was done for any other reason than maintenance, and given the lack of signage and the fact they're just switched off and on the weekend, only.

I'm lucky I don't have any lower body mobility issues and prefer taking stairs for health related reasons but still take elevators when I'm in a hurry or tired. So I can get around without elevators. But limiting access like this is a big deal. UWM has had a long history of poor access for people with disabilities, trailing behind initiatives at many schools and this just honestly, as in appropriate as it is, makes me want to smack the shit out of whomever thought that was a good idea.

Someone please tell me if there is a good reason I don't know about in assuming the worst here?
