Saw this 16in M1 Max listed on fb marketplace for only 650 and couldn’t let it pass and I bought it. It has some scratches on the corners and a dent on the back but it’s a beast. 32gb ram and 1tb storage. I also got a Xbox elite controller 2 with it I think that’s just a crazy deal do you guys have any recommendations on what I should do with it? It’s my first pro so I don’t know much about them, the only bad thing about it is the battery capacity is at 83%.

Hey folks,
I just got my first MacBook Pro after waiting four to five months.
Do you have any tips for the best immediate or long-term experience?
Note: I have used MacBook Pro for five years for office work, but this is my first personal device.

I saw that Amazon was having a sale on the pro chip so I went over to best buy to price match the sale so I don't have to wait a whole month to get it. First impression so far is the build is really nice. Still need to get used to MacOS as I used windows my whole life.
Excited to try this out!

I’ve never owned a laptop in my life and just recently bought the MacBook Pro m5 with pro chip. I realize this will be like going from the Stone Age to flying cars, so I’m trying to get an idea of maybe first important things to do, settings that are worth adjusting, customization tips, and just general tips/tricks.
I’m 31 and have been a long time iPhone user so not new to tech, it’s just that the new laptops seem to have so much to them that I don’t even know where to begin. I work in finance and do bookkeeping on the side, so the primary use for this will be work (spreadsheets, notes, communication) but I also would love to use it for personal things as I get more accustomed to what I can all do.
Any thoughts from long time MacBook users who took a shot on the new M5 pro?

I'm in the market for a new Mac, which sounds ridiculous because I have an M4 Air, but I listened too much to the YouTube 'influencers' and ultimately bought a machine that doesn't quite tick all boxes for me.
My usecase: I run an SME (director), my role includes a large amount of editing work, and a heavy stack of operation apps and tabs, I do want to learn to code as a side interest, but isn't necessarily demanding as far as I'm aware?
My M4 Air is throttled constantly, not to mention I've already filled the 512gb storage, my fault there I suppose.
I'd quite like to buy again now, and have this machine last me 5-7 years, I'm dead set on 16", but I'm not sure if I should pay the premium for the Max? My usecase certainly doesn't require it, but there isn't a huge uplift in cost (in the grand scheme of things).
Should I just save my money and get the M5 Pro?

I’m considering purchasing a 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 Pro (18-core CPU, 20-core GPU, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD) through Apple’s Education Store for approximately £4200. It’ll be my first Mac and my main personal computer, primarily for developing an iOS/cross-platform mobile app using Xcode, SwiftUI, VS Code, Figma, simulators and backend tools, with my iPhone 12 Pro for physical device testing. I’m hoping to keep it for at least 5–7 years. Would this configuration be sensible for running multiple development tools simultaneously, or am I overspending on RAM and storage? Also, with rumours of new MacBooks coming soon, would you buy now or wait? Interested to hear from developers using similar setups.

Seen this on FB screen and case look flawless no scratches
87% battery cycle count 260
16 core gpu I guess the baseline graphics processor
Price is $700 is that reasonable? For a family member doing basic stuff nothing intensive
Thanks all

Do I really need to get my battery replaced, or can I ride it out for another 2 years or so?

- Price: Approximately $1,450 USD
- Chip: Apple M1 Max
- RAM: 32GB unified memory
- Storage: 1TB SSD
- Battery cycle count: 112
- Battery health: 96%
I'm looking for advice on whether this is a good deal in 2026 and whether it will remain reliable for another 5-6 years, especially for video editing, multitasking and college work.
Would you buy it for $1,450, or would you choose a newer M3 Pro MacBook Pro with 18GB RAM instead?

My macbook pro, 2.5 months old already has 36 TBW on its 1TB drive, now I do use my mac ~12 hours a day on average, so its definitely been running through its paces, but besides the occasional heavy swapping, and file downloads, there is literally nothing that could lead to an average of 400 GB in drive writes per day.
I have 48 GB of ram, and the maximum amount of swap i see after a few days of it being active, is 10 GB in swap. But even now where i completely reset my macbook, and my drive is basically empty (200 GB used) it still does 200 GB writes yesterday.
I nailed it down to the microsoft app(FFs), for which onedrive was writing ~100 GB in sync logs a day, but now that i updated it to a supposedly fixed version my mac still does 200 GB write, even while I can see through acitvity monitor that onedrive is minimal, and with onedrive uninstalled its the same.
Through activity monitor the application using most of my disk writes is "launcd" and "kernel_task" but here I can also not explain why they are writing ~6 GB per hour. I also noticed that the write operations are basically never at 0, maybe like one tiny bit in a minute, but then it directly spikes back to a 20 MB write operation afterwards, which majority of the time is just launchd or kernel_task again.
Furthermore the activity monitor overview also does not add up to the actual disk usage, which is weird.
I attached a screenshot of my activity monitor 24 hours after a fresh reboot, and it being in sleep for ~12 hours, so basically only 12 hours of usage.
The picture below that is activity monitor 1.5 hours after a fresh boot, once again 30 GB written in just 1.5 hours!!
I really dont know what this can be at this point, because I just completely reset my mac, erasing all the applications etc and doing everything from scratch again.
Finally I attached a picture of my desk health, and I got this macbook on the 29th of July this year.
Any tips or steps I can take to investigate this would be very much appreciated!
I also do not have apple care, but if this continues I might consider getting it while I am still in the first year just so I dont get it dying on me in 2 years.

everyone,
I have a MacBook Pro 2017 (13-inch, Intel i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD), and I’m trying to reinstall macOS Ventura from scratch.
The installation starts normally, but after some time, I get this error:
“The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error 5)”
The installer also showed approximately 6 hours and 17 minutes remaining before the error appeared.
I want to completely erase the Mac and reinstall macOS, but I’m not sure what is causing the problem.
Could this be related to my Wi-Fi connection, corrupted installation files, the internal SSD, or something else?
What I’ve noticed:
The error doesn’t appear immediately; the installation progresses for a while.
I’m trying to reinstall macOS Ventura.
My goal is to erase everything and start with a clean installation.
Has anyone experienced this error on a MacBook Pro 2017? What would you recommend checking first?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello, I have a question regarding the Dell dock sd25tb5. I use this docking station with my MacBook Pro but cannot update the docking firmware on a Mac laptop. Dell states that a Windows laptop is required for the update. Has anyone successfully updated its firmware using a Mac?

I am unable to mirror the display from my MacBook Pro (running macOS Big Sur 11.7.11) to my television. Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this issue?
