Resource PSA for Lyft drivers getting deactivated over false complaints

I’ve seen a bunch of posts here about drivers getting deactivated due to false passenger complaints, and then getting hit with a generic appeal denial. A lot of people think that’s the end of the road — but it’s not.

Lyft’s terms allow you to file for arbitration, which legally forces their team to review your case — not just some support rep reading from a script. It can actually get results.

I wrote up a step-by-step guide on how to file arbitration, if you're in that situation and want to push back: 👉 How to File Arbitration Against Lyft

Stay safe out there.

Resource I built a tool that helps deactivated Lyft drivers write their appeal.

I built a tool that helps deactivated drivers figure out and write their appeal. It's called Reinstara, and the Lyft page is here: https://reinstara.com/lyft-deactivation-appeal. The mods okayed me sharing it.

How it works: pick the reason from your notice, paste the email Lyft sent you, and tell your side. The free check shows what your appeal needs to say for your exact reason, what proof helps, where to file it, and your deadline. That's the part people usually spend a night on Reddit and TikTok trying to piece together, and half of what's out there is old or about a different app. If your case is thin, it tells you that too, before you've paid anything.

The check and the guides are all free: what to do while your account is on hold, what still works after a denied appeal, your state's rights. Paying is just an option if you want the full letter written from your facts. It's $34 once, with a free rewrite if Lyft says no, and there's a complete example at https://reinstara.com/example so you can see exactly what you'd get.

Nobody honest promises reactivation. This just makes sure the one appeal you get is the strongest version of your side. It never asks for your Lyft password, and you review and send everything yourself.

Feedback is welcome. If something's missing or your experience of the process was different, I'd love to hear it so I can make it better for the next driver.

Advice/Question Does this sound legit

Post image

It happened yet again. After driving nearly 30 trips through the day, when it got to bar closing time in one of the busiest night life cities in America i quit getting ride offers at 1:50 AM and didn't get another offer until 7 minutes after the time i took this screen shot. This is about the 7th time something like that has happened, ranging from a 30 minute gap, up to one that lasted 2.5 hours. Last night ended up being about 45 minutes in total. I drove a large circle and fought some traffic to go from high boosted area to hopefully get to a less concentrated area to find a ride and then circled back to the boosted area again.

When i have called Lyft in the past, they have said it's my phone's fault because i have a 5 year old phone and it can't keep up, even though i have zero issues with my phone ever doing anything else. Anyone think that sounds legit? I don't think anyone is sitting at their office saying, "how can we screw this one guy over and give rides to other people", but i just don't know what could be happening.

So the "Request ride" function is a joke.

Multiple times yesterday I requested matches with rides that were nearby me. I selected them as soon as they popped up, I was less than 5 minutes away, with no other drivers around. One of them I sat and waited 15 minutes, I got no other offers, despite the fact the entire city was in bonus Zones of over 50%, so it was busy. (We had a big city wide bar crawl happening). At the end of the night, I had put on the filter to "arrive on time" I was about 30 minutes away from the arrival time, the destination was LITERALLY in the same neighborhood my "arrive on time" address was, and i sat again and waited for a stupid amount of time with no other offers, just for it to be "no longer available" and I never received ANY rides that even took me in the direction of my address.

Separately, the city had literally thousands of people on the streets for this event, and I was STILL sitting and waiting for no less than 5 minutes between rides. I have a perfect 5 star, my acceptance rate is above 80%,, idk what is going on with Lyft, but the last month has been trash with the way rides have been coming in. I used to get back to back rides, I'd always have one in queue unless the ride got cancelled by the passenger, and even then almost immediately a new one one show up. Not anymore, I rarely get a ride while I'm in one, I'm waiting between each ride. Customers are telling me they have been waiting for 30 minutes to an hour for a ride, while us drivers are waiting to even be offered rides.

Advice/Question Can you be deactivated for disobeying the speed limit in the app???

Asking for a friend... there are MANY inaccurate speed limits in the app that don't match the actual posted limits, especially school zones. For example, she was doing 15 in a school zone at 10pm because she didn't want to get dinged. The question is, can you speed ALL DAY long with the app saying "slow down" without any consequences? My understanding is that its only if a customer reports you for speeding that it actually matters. She just wants to make sure her account wont be deactivated for the false limits the app hasn't updated...
if the app speed does matter , does using a 3rd party map app help to evade those inaccuracies? if it makes a difference to protect her account from false judgement... thanks!!!

Rant/Opinion I’m tired of passengers throwing up in my car

I don’t know what to do anymore. I have nausea bags in my car, rubber mats and a rear seat cover. I informed the passenger of the bags and provide them when they need them. However the last 2 times the bags have not helped at all. People are too drunk to keep it in the bag or have failed to throw up in the bag. Both instances have messed up the bag seat. It is so annoying. I have been paid accordingly both times but it sucks big time to have to address the issues afterwards.

Other For drivers with Platinum and Elite status, it seems like Lyft has cracked down on additional compensation in the help section.

For example, if I did a long ride I had to drive all the way back with no ride requests, I would complain and automatically receive a seven dollar bonus. Same thing for when I’m at LAX and it takes me 15 or 20 minutes to get out after the ride ends. I’ve noticed over the past couple of weeks that the automated system avoids handing out these bonuses and default to “ this is our policy” BS.

Other Phone falling off the magnetic mount over potholes

Philly, Uber/some DoorDash on the side. Phone mounts don't stand a chance on the I-95 potholes.

Two times this summer the phone shot off the mount & went under the brake pedal. Rider sitting in the back!! i went with stronger magnet rings. A clamp mount after that (hated it). Then along comes my new Anker magnetic phone case, a month-ish now, hasnt come off the mount once in that time, and no ring mark left behind on the phone the way my old magnet ring did.

Now the job is a mount spot that keeps the AC vent clear, before next summer, cause July in Philly is brutal!!

Advice/Question What insurance is good in California and how much more do they charge for the extra insurance to drive Uber and Lyft?

I do UberEATS and doordash right now but my car is too old to do Lyft and Uber. I'm trying to buy a newer car so I can also do Uber and Lyft and am trying to get an idea of how much car insurance will be. I used to have Geico and after just calling and asking about it I got a letter from them a few weeks later saying they are dropping me. What insurance companies offer insurance to Uber and Lyft drivers in California?

So of course lyft cannot say the dates or the time of the alleged safety incident, here I am.

Has anyone (drivers) been able to reverse this decision? If so, what steps did you take?

How long did it take?

Advice/Question New To Lyft! A Few Questions:

I started doing lift and am using the Express Drive since I don't own a car. Im 2 weeks in and Im pretty happy so far. I know express drive isn't as profitable, but honestly I see it as just a way to have a car without having to own one and worry about random maintenance bills, registration fees, and stuff like that. I have a WFH day job so Im not trying to profit-max, as long as I can pay off the car each week working like once or twice a week I'm happy.

I do have a few questions though:

  1. Is "priority mode" worth it? I had it on for a few days, then off a few days and I didn't really notice an increase in rides. My area is decently busy, I usually don't wait more then 10 min max on slow days, but often Im getting rides before even dropping off my current one.

  2. I've read on here that a hack for express drive is if you don't want to waste personal miles, you can just toggle online and reject every offer. Is this something you can get in trouble for abusing? I have a 50 mile trip I'm taking tomorrow and Im tempted to try this, but I don't wanna rock the boat when I'm just starting out.

  3. What is a good "rule" when taking offers? I've just been taking everything I get since I just wanna hit 20 rides, but if I do decide to try and make this more of a side hustle It would be good to know what I'm doing. Like when you get an offer what are you looking for? Miles to dollar ratio? Customer rating?

  4. How often should I swap out my express rental? It's with flex drive and they say I can keep it for years, but I want to avoid any major maintenence issues, plus I feel if I have a car too long it'll be more likely that any issues are my fault. Does that make sense or am I crazy?

  5. Any general advice that's not super obvious at first would be appreciated! Im liking the job so far, It's been great having a car again and I'm willing to sacrifice a day or two a week to keep it.

Appreciate anyone willing to take a few minutes to answer some questions from a newbie!

I find it funny that Lyft changed the turbo colors to orange as a symbol of a “carrot on a stick”. Now watch as soon as I turn around it will magically disappear 😑

Advice/Question Questions about priority mode

I’m sure this question has been asked 1 million times. I’m sorry I’m still new here, although I’ve been driving Lyft for a long time.

I live in a very small college town and the rides mostly come on Friday and Saturday nights. Since I’m in the middle of town, I leave my app on from the time I get up till I go to bed. Since it’s a small area and there’s nota million Lyft drivers and no Uber driver, should I have the priority mode on?

I feel like people would be more likely to choose a non-priority ride during the day since there’s only two or three Lyft drivers. Which makes me hesitate to put on the priority mode.

Any suggestions on this topic?

Advice/Question I’ve said it before: the roll-off cancel is the most satisfying cancel in rideshare

But sometimes you execute one so fucking clean it’s almost an art form. 😂

I have Lyft’s deaf/hard-of-hearing setting enabled, so a text satisfies the contact requirement. No phone call necessary.

I initially parked with my passenger door facing the apartment, hoping for a quick pickup. Hop in, flip around, and we’re gone.

But you didn’t give me a quick pickup.

With two minutes left, I send: “I’m in a black Toyota.”
Then I reposition. I’m no longer set up for a pickup. I’m positioned for the roll-off. Facing the exit. No backing up, no three-point turn.

One minute left he texts: “Okay, coming out.”

And I’m thinking, no, you’re not. You’re probably just now grabbing your keys and putting your shoes on. 😂

I’m already betting against you. And now you’re playing against the house.

I’ve accepted a more profitable Uber ride, and I’ve positioned my car so you can’t catch me maneuvering out. You’re racing the clock. I’m waiting for it to expire.

Timer hits ZERO.

At that EXACT moment, your apartment door opens. Here you come!

Left hand on my phone.

Cancel. Collect fee. Roll off. 😂

And there you stand, probably thinking, “But I told him I was coming!”

Brother, telling me you’re coming doesn’t stop the clock.

The house wins. I’m already on my way to Uber. 🤌

Advice/Question What should I do? Stuck here

Post image
1 Upvotes

It’s been 2 weeks since I sign up for Lyft Driver. Until now I am stuck in this page. They said I should see a notification tab where I can sign a document and then I can start driving while waiting for the for-hire permit. But I did everything, called and emailed support, delete and re-install and still I am stuck in this BS. Where can I sign. Wtf Lyft!!!

Advice/Question No cancel fee for passenger cancelled rides?

2 days in a row I have had pax cancel while I am enroute to them, but have not received a cancelation fee. I had been driving for several minutes, so well over the one minute mark to qualify for the fee. Its usually only like 2-3 bucks, but its something for my wasted time. The last couple times I haven't received a fee nor is the ride even in my recent activity so I'm not even able to use support (bot) chat to get the fee, I would have to call and wait for a real person and its just not worth it.

Is Lyft no longer giving cancelation fee if pax cancels while you're enroute or has this happened to anyone else?

Other Sometimes I wonder who is more screwed up: pax or Lyft…

I got flagged today for a bad smell with a 1 star rating also… Let’s put aside that the car is a month old (it’s a brand new car), I had its interior cleaned on the first (as usual), I just put yesterday a brand new “three air freshener thing” and I had no one smelling bad or leaving the car smelling bad…

I want to focus on why would you give someone a EFFIN 1 star review for that! It’s basically the worst ride of her/his life! One star is seriously messed up for something that - not only frivolous - bus also a lie.

And what pisses me off the most is that - as you can see in the picture - everyone else, before AND after, complimented me for the car, but Lyft accepted this flag and will leave there as a bad mark until God knows when!
