9 months without flower

9 months without flower after 12 years of daily use. It gets easier everyday. Weed ain't shit, was holding me back in so many ways. I think the only way I'd go back to smoking how I was is if I completely gave up on my life, because that's what I see daily smoking as, now, giving up on life. I had so much fun with it and I don't regret ever smoking, I just wish I'd realized sooner how much it stunted my growth. If anyone out there is struggling, you can do it. It's a cake walk after the 3rd or 4th month. You won't even think about it.

Monday, I’ll hit 14 days completely THC-free heavy heavy user after 15 years

After 15 years of heavy THC use, I decided to quit cold turkey after getting a job on an offshore oil platform.

This Monday, I’ll hit 14 days completely THC-free. 💪
The withdrawal was tough at first — extreme sweating, barely any sleep, and a loss of appetite.

But I’ve now completed my offshore trip, and I’m proud of myself for pushing through it.

Thankfully, most of my withdrawal symptoms have now disappeared. My appetite is back, and I can eat normally again. The only things I’m still dealing with are poor sleep, a little sweating, and occasional anxiety.

After 15 years of heavy use, this is a big step forward for me. I’m taking it one day at a time, staying strong, and focusing on a healthier future. 🔥

Smoked for 45 years

I’ve been without for 66 days now. 67 days ago I was hit with a life changing panic attack. I threw all my weed away as well as my one hitter that I considered my life saver. I had what the doctors called a TIA 28 days ago. They put a heart monitor on me for 14 days. My Dr called yesterday and is telling me my heart is having “pauses’ in a regular heart beat. Has anybody else had issues with heart irregularities after going cold turkey after 45 years of continuous usage?

100 day milestone!

Howdy Leavers! I made it 100 days after quitting cannabis. As a 52 year old daily chronic smoker, this is the longest stretch I’ve gone since I started in my teens. I definitely feel a great improvement in many aspects of life. Although I still miss it and think about getting high from time to time, I worry about slipping back into my old ways and that keeps me away.

I take solace in the ways my life has improved, although I don’t think it’s apparent to anyone but me. Exercise and healthy eating were critical in getting through withdrawal and I’m starting to feel the benefits now. Brain fog is mostly gone. Motivation has improved after getting through the initial stages of boredom. After a long period of unemployment I was able to find a job in my field doing work I enjoy. My relationships have improved. I have a little more patience and the feelings of paranoia and self doubt are gone. I realize that it’s not only about giving up cannabis, the other changes I’ve made have helped with self-improvement.

I know it’s an ongoing process and have to keep vigilant in my convictions but today I’m celebrating this milestone and giving myself a bit of grace for the accomplishments I’ve made. Here’s to all of you whose stories have inspired me along the way. To those of you still struggling, keep trying. It’s not easy but totally worth it to break the cycle.

Day 1.

I’ve had a few “day 1’s” recently but have had a hard time getting past that. The urge takes over at night time when I am able to turn my brain off and I often reason with myself until i cave. Weak I know. I have been smoking pretty regularly for 9 years now (stared at 22 and am 31 now) with a few breaks in between. I guess I’m leaning on the community here. I pray for strength and wisdom on this path and I don’t believe it’s a coincidence I found this group. Wishing you all the fortitude that I’m looking for 💪🏽 stay strong brothers and sisters.

I know this has been asked many times, but WHY AM I SO TIRED??!!

I feel like I'm just running out of patience for this process. I thought I'd be full of energy and mental clarity by week 3. A big reason why I quit is because I felt like I wasn't able to comprehend conversations, movies, podcasts, etc. The headaches and nausea have subsided. 10 hours of sleep isn't enough. I used to get high and clean my whole house, but now just getting through the day is rough. I feel like I'm stuck in a tunnel. At least when I was high, it was a fun tunnel 😂

I have read plenty of other posts asking the same thing, but please give me words of encouragement. I don't want to go back to being stuck in the loop of addiction. I just thought I'd feel some benefits by now. 🥲

Had the ultimate test today

• Upvotes

My biggest trigger was a new environment. Something about being high in a different location used to be my idea of the best time. Every move in my life has coincided with a period of heavy use. The excitement of packing to move on to a new chapter, and then arriving in the new chapter, and daydreaming about all of the endless possibilities while surrounded by nothing but boxes was heavenly.

After a year of sobriety (from alcohol and more or less weed) I have made a move to Chicago. I purchased my first place, a vintage condo that is a dream to me. I have vowed to never smoke while I live here, as this house feels like a home and like a different version of me.

This morning I was unpacking and found a joint, which is odd bc I mostly used edibles. The old me would have said it was a sign, that nothing would be better than smoking and walking around my new neighborhood, but I actually didn't even think about it. I just tossed it. The only time I think about it now is to remember how cool that is. How cool this all is. That I get to approach this new era of my life as the person I always have dreamed of becoming when I was high.

Here's to keeping keeping on!

Did working out help with you sleep?

I am in the process of quitting weed so far I have not had any trouble falling asleep. I am a full time college student and work 2 jobs and on top of that this week I have started taking 3 fitness classes daily, (Pilates, cycle and yoga) is that why I’m not having issues falling asleep. I’m kind of nervous it’ll happen to me. Any tips or advice is welcome!

this is just pathetic.. need advice (rant)

It just gets to a point... Everyday I wake up, I feel different about weed. I had taken a 2 month break at the beginning of the year because of something traumatic happening, every time I smoked I would just think about it; that's the only thing that has made me quit in 10+ years. I seriously wish I could have an induced panic attack just to stop this shit.

It also doesn't help I've been around it my entire life. My parents would smoke in the basement when I was young, moved in with my dad years later, he had introduced it to me and that's when I started smoking. Grade 9, had friends that were curious... no problem at all, I had everything at my disposal.

I'm lucky to have had friends that were into weed and not other drugs/alcohol, even though I had dabbled a bit in HS, good thing that never stuck, I'd be in rehab, homeless or dead if I had used other substances as much as I do weed.

I keep telling myself, the only thing I get out of weed is feeling hazy, hungry, and then sleepy; it's a repeating cycle, it never ends, I smoke because it's easy to, it's easy to just get high and chill. It's also masking what's underneath and that took me a long time to recognize even though I've always had anxiety and depression. It also makes me dull, emotionally/mentally - I'm not as animated, it takes me a bit longer to process and respond to things and that's been alarming to be honest.

I've been so on the fence about this, do I just smoke at night when I'm finally done everything for the day? I feel like that's my middle ground; I wish someone could just rip off the bandage for me because obviously I can't do it.

I know I have support if I had asked, but last night I come in with a package. My mom asks "what is it" - "oh its just weed" I say, she says "oh awesome!" she looks happy for me, but I say "mom, I think I have to quit" - she asks me why, and then my stepdad comes in and says "you don't even smoke enough to quit" which I thought was funny (we're all goofy) - I can't help but to feel a bit hopeless, I want to start liking things again, filling up my days with hobbies/spending time with family and friends. I'm so inconsistent with my hobbies, relationships and creativity and weed doesn't help with that at all.

Weed is almost like that friend that is fun and goofy, gives you things, cares for you deeply, shows up to your special occasions, but is ultimately there to keep you behind on purpose. It's a life lesson I really need to learn. I can't believe I can't kick this shit, I don't even want to ask for help I just feel so fucking dumb. Sorry for long rant, wrote this to keep myself from smoking.

Cheers <3

Day 12 struggles

Hi all :) usually I check in on the discord, but recently I deleted my discord to help with my screen time (lol Reddit), not too much to say besides it’s been 12 days now after smoking everyday for around 3 years. (23 years old now)

Classes are done for the week and the entire day today I’ve just been at home being sad and lonely, scrolling on my phone. Im in a precarious situation where I live alone, go to school, and work 1-2 days a week but I really don’t have any friends anymore. I have acquaintances but no one to really text, I texted someone from my class yesterday and no response, I know I won’t have plans Halloween and no one to reach out (besides family), I’m just struggling. The entire day today has just been a sad waste

I’m thinking about using again but I know I know I shouldn’t. Just wondering if anyone else is out there struggling today :), hope everyone has a great weekend.

If so what did you do to overcome the urge?

First time in 6 months NSFW

I smoked for the first time in a over 6 months yesterday. As soon as I took a puff I regretted it immediately, and didn't even inhale. I didn't even get high, but I was more disappointed in the fact that I lost self control. I caved in and now broke my streak that I was doing so well in. I'll have to start over and be stronger than before. I think my buddy said it best, it being a matter of when I used to be smoking for fun and now it's a matter of doing it because you have to. I don't want to blame anyone but myself, I struggle to see people smoke on the regular like I used to and how I can't to that anymore. I am simply just ashamed and embarrassed. The worst part is I still want to get back into it despite knowing that it will most likely negatively affect me in the long run.

If there is one thing to acknowledge it's that I know it's an issue and I can be honest with myself about that, even if I need to learn the hard way and reset my clock. I can be honest with other people about my experiences as well and I shouldn't be ashamed to share and hopefully be a lesson to others.

Day 2

Hey r/leaves,

I’m on Day 2 without THC, and this has honestly been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

I started using 3 years ago to cope with OCD, anxiety, and some traumatic experiences I’d gone through earlier that year. I never wanted it to become a long-term habit because I have big goals for my life and career, but eventually, using every night became a daily routine.

About a year ago, I started drinking and vaping as well. After a near-death experience that really shook me, I unfortunately turned to substances even more to cope with the trauma instead of addressing it.

I’m 22 now and recently moved back in with my parents. I quit drinking two months ago, quit vaping a month ago, and now I’m trying to quit THC.

Yesterday, I cried for hours and felt this overwhelming sense of dread, like I’d never escape the withdrawal or feel like myself again. I’m feeling a little better this morning, but I know the nighttime cravings will probably hit hard again.

I’m sharing my story because I could really use some encouragement and support over the next few weeks. I know this journey won't be easy, but I want to take my life back and finally start working toward the future I’ve always wanted.

My apologies for the long post! If anyone has been through something similar, I’d love to hear your experiences. 💙

TL;DR: I’m on Day 2 of no THC after 3 years of heavy-ish THC use and could use some encouragement

Day 31, losing track of the count

I'm thrilled to be a month into recovery after 26 years of chronic smoking. I went full Machiavellian (commit all atrocities at once) by quitting sugar, coffee and processed carbs, too, and have cooked all my meals during this time. First week was torture, but quitting all the usual suspects at once masked the real culprit of my down state. Was it the weed, the sugar, the coffee, my insulin? Not really knowing, being ignorant of the true cause has, IMO, helped me maintain this three front war on my brain. I encourage anyone going down this path to prioritize your Sleep, Diet and Exercise. Now month two is up, and I read about challenges, so staying diligent. Thank you to everyone in this thread who have helped me through.

Day 7, but why am I always waking up with a headache

I’m on day 7 now and thanks to this community, no relapse. But the vivid dreams/nightmares are not stopping and every morning I wake up with a mild headache. Is there anything I can do to stop these dreams? or do I just wait this out and get ready for my brain to play bad movies every single night

I get weird cravings around important dates

I haven't smoked in over 2 years now. I struggled a lot at first and it got much better over time. Although I still get cravings once in a while and I have associated them with anniversaries of important moments in my life, or when I visit a place that brings me some kind of memory. I feel like at some point my brain wired together being nostalgic and being high.

Anyone else gone through something like that? How do you handle the craving?

This is the first time I post here btw, but I read a lot and I appreciate this community very much.

40 days sober and boy oh boy, The brainfog is completely gone. Cravings have 90% gone. Sleep and attention span are back to normal. Mood swings are at peak though, it's like subtle anger management at this point. Hopefully they subside as well.

Getting real tired of coughing up mucus

Hey everyone I quit cold turkey about 4 weeks ago, because I found out I'm pregnant back then, so I had to quit. I been meaning to quit before that but you know.. it was hard. Pregnancy is the only thing that'll make me do it flat out.

I was smoking one-and-done carts, not flower. Then shortly after quitting I caught a cold. So that made me produce mucus quite a bit, out my nose and my chest/throat. It's been a couple of weeks since all that (though feels like longer) and I'm still coughing up mucus. Always clearing my throat with the mucus. I'm getting real tired of it. How long til I stop?

Bah

Crashed out after breakup.. never smoking weed again

Sometimes we need to hit rock bottom to truly change. Just two weeks ago I had an entirely different life, and I don’t know if the depression is from my breakup or not smoking. Before this past relationship, I was content going through life alone because I had my main girl- Mary Jane, and she would always bring me peace. The truth is this plant had a stronger hold on me than I realized because even when the love of my life was desperately looking for attention and affection, I was okay with ripping dabs and just giving kisses, but I was not present and it breaks my heart. I quit my job, moved back home with my mom and grandma because I just couldn’t be alone in my apartment anymore and quite frankly I couldn’t perform at work as well. Im just lost right now because even though I’ve accomplished so much in my life (attorney) I am so depressed and lonely. Thank god for family but I can feel myself getting anxious knowing I lost a great opportunity to start a family. I’m going on two weeks, I can tell my body is cleansing itself, but the lack of companionship is killing me. I don’t want to rush into anything because I have hope that my ex will give us another chance, but going through this without her is so hard, but the truth is I wouldn’t have committed to quitting if we were still together. I don’t really know why I’m writing this, maybe just to hopefully feel like I’m a part of a community that can relate. If anyone is struggling with this wacky weed, please know that even if your world is going well, deep down it’s numbing you and you’re not living in the moment, at least that’s what happened to me. I know this is not a place to talk about breakups, but if anyone is reading this, don’t smoke to numb your emotions after a breakup. That’s what the old me would have done and I’m grateful the bottom is making me truly change for good. Keep it up everyone! And if you ever feel like you need to take another hit, just remember your WHY.

One month today

Good on me, I guess. Still crave on occasion but it’s not too strong. I know I can’t go back.

Nicotine is next on my list of things to quit. But it’s going to be really hard because it’s my only form of comfort right now. When my tummy hurts I hit the vape and it doesn’t take it away but it is somewhat comforting.

Been having pretty unusual mood swings, and my appetite and sleep schedule still have not gone back to normal. Talked to my psychiatrist and have started a new medication to aid in my recovery. Took it for the first time last night and I’ve eaten more than I normally do in a day. Seems to already be working but it could be the placebo effect.

Anyway, I’m proud of myself. All the pain has been worth it.

6 weeks and feel so incomplete

It’s been 6 weeks since I quite smoking, I was a smoker (smoked for breakfast and sleep, and about 4 joint per day) for the past 13 years and never lasted that long without weed.

It was really difficult to stop but now I don’t have any cravings or real “need” to smoke but I feel so incomplete, I miss the taste of it and still think my life is boring without it, I don’t enjoy going out with others, participate in conversation, I don’t listen to music anymore and watching tv feels ok but I don’t see the point.

I wanted to stop because of money and the time spend to look for weed in my area but I spend money in cigarette which isn’t better for my health or wallet.

Maybe I was expecting more of quitting, like more motivation, more awareness and hoped to gain weight but even if I eat well I can’t see any difference. I sleep well but don’t wake up more energized than I used too. People say I’m more energized or “luminous” than before but inside I just feel everything is slow and grey. My anxiety is more or less the same as when I was smoking. The only thing different for now is my constant headache and light sensibility.

Did someone felt the same ? Any tips or advice ?
