Post image
3 Upvotes

this is my first time knitting cables. i’m a huge beginner to knitting- i’ve only ever knit the step by step sweater but i did do that with the german short rows. i wanna knit the sirena sweater (i know that’s way too ambitious) and this is the game practicing its gauge swatch (this isn’t the yarn i’ll be using but it’s the only one i had lying around) i was wondering if it looks right or if im doing anything wrong. do the edges look funky or is it just me? any and all help and advice will be appreciated!

SOLVED-THANK YOU Help! I don't understand a DROPS pattern.

So, my husband wants me to knit this sweater for him:

https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=1883&cid=19

Now, the instructions say:

Body: Numbers in ( ) = men's sizes. Cast on 184-188 (188-196-200-208) sts on smaller circular needles with natural; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 5-5 (6-6-6-6) cm rib, increasing 16-28 (12-20-24-32) sts evenly distributed on the last row = 200-216 (200-216-224-240) sts. Change to larger circular needles and knit Pattern (center the pattern across front and back) until the work measures 35-38 (42-43-45-47) cm

I'm reading the pattern and looking at the image and I don't understand how, if worked in a round, would I produce a pattern like this. If the front and the back would be worked sperately (which it would be from one point), then yes. Could someone help me see what I fail to see atm. Big thanks!

stitch ID Can anyone tell me what stitch this is knitted in?

I'm still very new and trying to learn knitting to replace a friend's triangle scarf that he lost. I can only recognize a very select few knitting stitches, can someone more experienced help me along here? Is this even possible by hand? I assume it is machine knit. If it is, what would you select to approximate this?

where did i go wrong? Why do my stitches look uneven?

I'm knitting Blouse No. 1 by My Favourite Things Knitwear using Knitting for Olive 100% silk yarn. I started knitting about two months ago and have been knitting a lot since then. I've even made this same pattern in a darker brown using the same yarn.
I'm not sure if it's because I'm using a lighter color this time, but I feel like my knit stitches aren't looking completely uniform. Some of the V's look a little different from others, and almost look like they could be twisted stitches.
I understand what twisted stitches are and how stitches should sit on the needle, so I'm wondering if this is a tension issue, something to do with the silk yarn, or simply something that improves with experience. Is it difficult to get stockinette stitches looking really uniform, especially with 100% silk? I'd love to know if there's something I should be doing differently! My tension is overall good i'd say, i've never had this problem with another project.
I feel like in the darker photo you can notice it, and with the photo with the flash on it's less noticeable.
Any advice is appreciated!

pattern question Please help me figure out where I’m at in this pattern! Thank you

I had to rip out and stupidly took out my very first stitch marker for the beginning of the round, so I don’t know where I’m at in the pattern and I clearly picked up some stitches that should not be slip stitches. Any help would be appreciated.

pattern question Stitch question: "slip 3 as if to purl"

I'm working on the pattern"Look Out! Winter Hat", which is free to download. The last sentence in the Wrong Side Row instruction reads:
Bring your yarn to the front of your work and slip the last 3 stitches as if to purl.

Doesn't that leave the working end of the yarn 3 stitches away from the edge of the row?

And if that's correct, how do you start the next row?

SOLVED-THANK YOU Beanie pattern question

Hi! I’m INCREDIBLY new to knitting, and have no idea what I’m doing. Being the person I am, i’ve decided to dive head first into what seems like maybe not the most beginner friendly project, while also making my own beanie pattern.

(Because it took me so long, I am not going to be including the design on the bottom, just the top, so don’t worry when you don’t see the bottom half, haha.)

Anyways, I inquire.. The far left column. The design by itself is fine if I don’t have that extra column, but it is SO much better to look at when I do. However.. Would it work? Would that extra column come together at the top of the beanie okay? I just worry because all of the top “triangles” are exactly the same EXCEPT for that left one if I do this. Any way to fix that? Is it fine being uneven? Do I have to remove it? Thank you!! ☺️

(You’ll probably have to click the images to see the column, it’s the furthest left column. I tried to point an arrow at it, too.)

I thought these were sock circular needles but I can’t find a single pattern or video showing how to use these, everyone is using DNPs or much larger circular needles. How do I use these, if anyone can recommend a video that would be awesome

pattern question advice for dealing with pattern seller

Hi there! I accidentally bought a pattern in the wrong language and the creator has not responded to my emails or messages for around two weeks now. I really don't want to have to buy it again as the yarn already ran me quite a bit of money. Any tips or ideas? Hesitant to say the creators name as I don't want to spread negativity but this is definitely a bit frustrating. And sorry if this is not the right place to post this!

pattern question Making it up as I go

Hi everyone, first time posting here.

I have a cardigan sweater that I have been knitting for YEARS. As in, I started it enough years ago that it is probably older than many of the knitters here. It is a copy of an even older sweater. It's very basic, with flat panels that are sewn together when finished.

I have made the back panel, the 2 sides, the collar, and part of a sleeve. I don't think I ever had any sort of pattern, I think I basically just winged it.

Here is my dilemma - I am at the part of the sleeve where I need to start shaping it to fit the decrease in the other panels, but I have no idea how to do this. This is where I gave up so many years ago. I really want to finish this sweater (the intended recipient is now 88 years old) but I'm stuck.

Any suggestions? Resources? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

Adding several photos with and without flash. Any help very appreciated. This is my first knitting attempt, a beanie with a simple 1x1 rib pattern (knit, purl, knit, purl, repeat) in the round. I was very pleased until I saw this. I can find many videos on fixing knit mistakes but I am having trouble figuring out what kind of mistake this is. I don’t think it’s a dropped stitch. I still have the correct number of stitches on my needles. Maybe I purled where I should have knitted or vice versa? Hoping some expert eyes can tell. Thank you.

SOLVED-THANK YOU Ribbing on bottom-up cabled sweater flaring. How to fix?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I just did a mid-project block on the bottom up cabled sweater I’m knitting (Skall Fisherman sweater pattern). I’m a tight knitter so this is bit of an usual issue for me to have. I found the popular tech knitter post about sweater surgery, but wasn’t clear on how to approach this for a non-stockinette project.

What are my options for fixing this? I’d hate to frog the whole thing and ideally just want to re-knit the ribbing.

SOLVED-THANK YOU Dropped stitch?

Hello, I am fairly new to knitting and I am working on the front yoke of a sweater. I just realized that 24 rows back, I may have dropped a stitch? I don’t know what I did or where I went wrong but the stripe is only 3 stitches wide when the stripe should be 4 stitches wide. I am currently working in rows and have not had to fix any big mistakes yet in my knitting. How should I approach fixing this? Is it going to be difficult to correct since it is so many rows back?

If I just pull the line of stitches back to the mistake and ladder back up, will it make a noticeable difference with the tension? Or should I just let this mistake go? I can’t believe I didn’t see this sooner - I am bummed because it’s on the front yoke!

pattern question Help! Are these saddle shoulder increases correct, or am I misunderstanding the pattern?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I've just cast on the Slåtter T-shirt by Järbo, which uses a top-down saddle shoulder construction worked flat initially, and I'm having some trouble understanding the increases.

The pattern instructs you to increase on both right-side and wrong-side rows, using M1R and M1L on the RS, and M1R-p and M1L-p on the WS.

My understanding from knitting a previous saddle shoulder garment is that the increase lines should be consistent and mirror each other across the front and back. However, following these instructions, I'm getting increases that appear to lean in different directions, and the resulting stitches don't look quite right to me.

I've checked the finished projects on Ravelry, and nobody seems to have mentioned an issue with the pattern, so I'm wondering whether I'm misunderstanding the construction or whether this is simply how this particular saddle shoulder is designed.

Has anyone knitted this pattern, or is anyone familiar enough with saddle shoulder construction to explain whether these increase directions are correct? Should the increases mirror each other, or is the alternating lean intentional?

I'm only a few rows in, so I'd rather figure this out before continuing (or frogging again!).

For reference, this is a free pattern available on Ravelry, so the instructions are publicly accessible. I've attached the designer's photograph for reference, credited to Järbo.

Thanks so much for any help!

pattern question 2 x 2 Broken Rib Stitch Decrease Help

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I am currently doing the Rustic Red One Hat pattern by Jessica Spigel.... Once I get to the decreases the ribbing doesn't match up. And I'm not sure how to fix it.

Has anyone ever done decreases in a 2 x 2 rib but kept the ribbing going?

If you see in the hat before I took it apart, the ribbing began to twist weird..... And then when you put the hat on it looked so bad. But my husband really wants the hat from the movie Red One, and I'm trying to make it work.

Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Hi! Demi-beginner knitter making VCL’s Kida sweater and I seem to be doing something wrong where colors change. Pics attached. Is this jogging? Am I missing a stitch move when changing? You can see my BORM where the stripes are off in the second pic vs the other side on the third.

where do I start? Can I start double knitting mid project?

I’m knitting a hunting balaclava for a Christmas present for my dad. I have the bib and ribbed neck part finished and now basically all that’s left is the beanie part. I started just knitting in stockinette like the pattern calls for but this needs to be CRAZY warm and I’m not sure the plain stockinette feels warm enough. Could I just cast on a purl stitch every other stitch when I’m done with the ribbing and start double knitting? Will that create something that’s attached right there at the ribbing without a seam (like how the cast on for toe up socks are)? Are there any free patterns or videos that walk through this I can follow (even if they’re not for a beanie… maybe pockets use the same technique?)?

How to use _____ ? Knitted Cast-On at end of RS Row?

Thumbnail

Hello! I’m working the Summer Shirt by Celina Dyhring and am a little confused at the cast-on for the Front Right Side section.

It’s asking to add 8 stitches at the end of a RS row, but physics don’t seem to agree with that. Do I flip the work and do knitted coat-on from WS? my first thought is that i will then have 8 knits on reverse stockinette, but maybe since it’s a cast-on it doesn’t look wrong? Or should I find a purled cast-on Technique?

Thank you!

pattern question Help with short rows!

Post image
1 Upvotes

This is my first time knitting with short rows. It’s a flat knit piece. I looked up what wrap and turn is and I got that but I don’t understand what I’m supposed to do after I wrap and turn? How do I complete the row? I’m really confused and don’t know how to move forward. Maybe a more advanced knitter would know how to interpret this? Thank you!
