where did i go wrong? Laddering Knit 1 Below

• Upvotes

I realized a few rows in that I had purled 5 stitches that should have been ribbed (half fisherman’s rib) with a knit one below. I managed to ladder them back and repair them into a normal rib but now I have too many knit stitches since when I repaired the mistake I didn’t know how to repair with a knit one below. Does anyone know how I can now ladder back just those knit stitches and put them back properly with a knit one below? Is it as simple as just taking two layers of ladder and pulling them through knit wise? I can add a photo later. I’m researching while I’m waiting for a doctor. Thanks in advance!

Hi! Demi-beginner knitter making VCL’s Kida sweater and I seem to be doing something wrong where colors change. Pics attached. Is this jogging? Am I missing a stitch move when changing? You can see my BORM where the stripes are off in the second pic vs the other side on the third.

where do I start? Yarn recommendation

• Upvotes

Hi, I am planning to make a pair of convertible/flip top mittens for someone. I want them warm (of course), very soft to the touch, and relatively easy to care for. I was thinking some blend of merino and alpaca, maybe? But what would you guys recommend for this kind of project?

pattern question Question about Sylphide jacket pattern by Fabelknitwear

Post image
• Upvotes

The pattern is for a bittom up jacket worked in flat. I attached the sleeves, now I'm working the yoke and have to start doing the neckline. The instructions posted in the picture are confusing me.

Do I have to start working the first and last 22 stitches in the same round or do I have to work the 22 stitches, finish the round and then work the other 22 stitches ribbed when I start the next round?

And if I have to start the ribbing in the same round, why do I have to cast off in two different rounds to make the fronts even? Wouldn't they be even if I cast off in the same round?

Sorry if my english is confusing, it's not my first language.

where did i go wrong? First project-Please help!

This is my first project! It's the wheat scarf from tin can knits. Admittedly, I didn't do much research on how to knit. I inherited my grandma's patterns and needles and wanted to figure it out so that her beautiful projects can live on. I found a simple pattern and looked up how to do each task in the pattern as I got to it. I'm very much flying by the seat of my pants. At the end of every row, my last stitch leaves this huge loop. Why is that happening, and how can I fix it? The whole project also is slightly hourglass shaped. Is that a tension issue? I have not increased or decreased stitches. I've been counting as I go across each row. Also, I'm a lefty and hold my working needle in my left hand if that matters.

pattern question Joli Mimi Cardigan slip stitch purl wise

Joli Mimi Cardigan (wool and the gang kit) and slip stitch purl wise with yarn in from at beginning of wrong side row. When I do this I end up with the edges on panels looking different. The slipped knit wise on right side looks like a chain and the slipped purl wise on wrong side leaves a series of “knots”. Because the panels are sewed together - I will end up with different looking edges. I’ve frogged and started over and am doing a slipped purl stitch with yarn in back rather than front to avoid a knot look in favor of a chain. What am I missing if I do it this way?

lefty help! Raglan increases as a mirror knitter (lefthanded)

Hello!

I am currently knitting the Hanstholm Sweater Junior by PetiteKnit. This is the first time I’m doing raglan increases and I have troubles doing them as a lefthanded mirror knitter and also understanding the pattern.

As you can see on the pictures, I have holes on my M1R/M1L. As I saw on other thread, I need to twist them by taking the back thread but most of the time and especially cause I’m starting from a collar there is only one thread.

Also, I have big trouble understanding the pattern because it says I am supposed to knit first row between back and right sleeve and second row between back and left sleeve. But as I am knitting mirrored, I feel like I am knitting this badly. On the picture, the back is the white marker.

«
Row 1 (RS): Knit to first marker between back and right sleeve, M1R, slip marker, knit the raglan stitch,
slip marker, M1L, k6, turn (2 sts have been increased).
Row 2 (WS): Purl to first marker between back and left sleeve, M1R, slip marker, purl raglan stitch, slip
marker, M1L, p6, turn (2 sts have been increased).
»

Also, how am I supposed to knit other part if I keep increasing this part? 😭

If you guys have any recommandations or even video resources of raglan starting from a collar (i could not find anything), I’m taking anything!!

Thank you!!

where did i go wrong? I'm blocking my first sweater and I think I made a mistake?

So yesterday I let my sweater soak in the sink for about 20 minutes and I noticed the water went very dark yellow. I should've been like "wait a minute" but unfortunately my brain didn't do that.🫣 So I laid my sweater out to dry yesterday afternoon and this morning I went to check on it and everywhere it was folded overnight there are these yellow lines.

So did I somehow ruin the sweater? Is this solvable if I maybe wash it with wool wash?

I'm thinking maybe the dye ran? I have no idea.

Yarn is concept by katia cotton merino.

tension help! Lumpy bust shaping GSRs - any tips?

Working on the Kyoto Keyhole top by madebyrosh and it’s my first time working bust shaping - it turned out so lumpy 🥲

Don’t usually have this same issue when I work GSRs elsewhere or maybe my tension issues is just more obvious this time around.

Hoping it will block out, but general advice / alternative short row methods to consider will be much appreciated!

pattern question MFTK Tee No. 1 Joining in the round for the body

Hi everyone!

This is my first time knitting in the round. I am not really sure when/where I actually need to join the work. Should I join before I start knitting across the front stitches or after I casted on the last X stitches in extension?

I tried joining after the last casted on stitches, but then I have to knit back on my front stitches to get to the marker For the beginning of the row. Is that ok?

Thanks for your help!

tension help! Marielle Blouse - tension issue

Thumbnail

Currently working on the Marielle Blouse by Marias Verden in Cardiff Cashmere.

I've just joined under the arms and immediately am facing a tension issue - working flat my lace was very even, working in the round it became veeery wonky. I don't know what to do to fix this. Added photos, I think it's very obvious from them where the transition happened.

What do I do? I feel like switching to smaller needles after joining under the arms will affect the look too much. Is the solution just to rip back and pull tighter for the yarn overs?

Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

where did i go wrong? I'm unsure how to continue this pattern or if I've misunderstood something

The first two images are my work and the last couple are images from the pattern on YouTube. Time stamp is 32:07

I have added my cast on before I realised I've been doing things wrong. For my work I have a total of 7 increases but I started on the 5th stitch of the cable stitch row and when I count it as it is im on 11 stitches which mean ive exceed my cable Row and into the purl row. Im unsure what I should I do. Do I frog back till I reach the 8th row which might make the neckline smaller. Im not sure how to alter it or correct my mistake to keep uo with the pattern. Any guidance would be appreciated.

The pattern repeat is k6, p2, k8 (cable on 15 row), p2 repeat

where did i go wrong? Scarf getting wider

Post image

I am almost at the end of my scarf, and suddenly it’s getting wider. I’ve ripped back twice now already. I think it’s a tension issue but the yarn feels tight on my needles so I don’t feel like I can knit any tighter. Not sure how I keep doing this?! The rest is perfect and it’s just this end bit.

SOLVED-THANK YOU Robina sweater - yolk chart vs. body chart

Thumbnail

Hi,

I need help from anybody who has knitted the Robinia sweater by Anne Ventzel. It's a beautiful pattern, I like how precisely it is written.

However, the colourwork chart for yoke and the chart for the body are different. How does this work?!

Looking at the pictures of the finished sweaters in the pattern, the colourwork is vertically alligned. A change in the charts would maybe make sense if there were decreases but there aren't any.

I really don't want to be frogging colourwork, please help! Am I reading the pattern wrong?

I'm adding photos with just as much instructions as absolutely necessary bc AI and copyright.

Thanks!

knitting tools question Needles for cardigan

I’m knitting a cardigan and I’m using the pony circular needle, but I don’t like the cable my stitches don’t glide on it they always get stuck and I gotta push it by hand, I’m looking for needles and cable that are smooth to knit with . I’m thinking of buying the addi classic circular needle does someone have it and knows if it’s good ? (I only want blunt needle not pointy). Thanks

View from right and wrong side. I already completed the sweater and won’t be going back to fix it.

But just for the sake of learning and getting better at reading my knitting- does anyone know what happened here?

I think this is a part of the sweater where I had to frog back a bit- so maybe when I picked my stitches back up I grabbed the wrong piece of yarn?

pattern question First time Lace Pattern help

Hi, I’m working on the ruffle sleeve pattern by Les Filles Ducoeur. Her instructions for the lace pattern are as follows:

ABOUT THE LACE PATTERN
In rows Yarn overs in every purl row and slip stitches in every knit row.
In rounds Yarn overs in every 1st round and slip stitches in the followin round.

I’m confused about the knit rows in particular, with the following questions:

  1. As I’m working slip stitches, how do I bring my working yarn over for the next row, or am I not able to and have to bring it across when I start the yarn over purl row?

  2. Am I dropping the yarn overs as I work the slip stitches?

  3. Should I start the pattern with purling?

Thanks in advance if you can answer any/all of the questions. I’m so lost!

Hi! Im working on this Estonian lace chart (pattern from KirikeeHandmade on etsy). There are these dark directional lines that curve on the chart that I don’t understand what im supposed to be doing (Ive marked over one of them in red for clarity). It turns out as a sort of gathering of the stitches? Ive included the screenshot with the key to show that there isn’t an explanation. Let me know of you have any idea!! Thanks!

tension help! Twisted stitches or tension issue?

Thumbnail

Hi all!

I'm about a month old knitter and I just begun knitting my first sweater. I'm currently at the point in the pattern where I just continually knit in the round (stockinette) until I reach the desired length. Looking back on this one part however I saw this line of stitches that looked off compared to the rest. I couldn't quite tell if this is me twisting my stitches or if it's a tension issue. I took photo of the purl side as well in case it gave more clues to what happened.

I don't think I've been twisting the stitches, since I've been knitting through the front loop and always wrapping the yarn around my working needle the same direction since the start (counter-clockwise/wrap yarn from the back then to the front).

What I have done though which makes me kind of suspect it's more on the tension issue is practice continental knitting. I wanted to try out a different style as I started this project doing english/flick knitting. I've switched from english to continental in the middle of doing the bust area.

One leg doesn't really look like it's overlapping the other at the start of each 'V' when I stretched it out, only that one leg looked shorter. Perhaps I had the yarn too tight while I was doing this row? But idk, maybe I did accidentally twist the stitches and my untrained eye just can't see the difference.

where did i go wrong? Italian Bind Off

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello! I’m doing the Italian bind off for the first time. I don’t think it looks right, and I can’t tell if it’s a tension issue, or if I’m doing something else wrong. I have a section at the beginning of the round that looks a little better (second picture).

Thanks!
