Discussion 💡 Kansas City kindness

Today could have gone much worse for me. Blowing a tire is never fun. Especially with 2 kids and a teenager with you in the car. But I got so lucky…and my luck was having the nicest people
Help me in the most unexpected ways. I was coming home from Lee summit on 470 and blew a tire on the highway. Since I had kids with me I didn’t want to pull over on the shoulder so I made my own way to the next exit, when I got off in the exit I was at 11psi. I took a left turn and was on blue ridge blvd I believe. Saw a gas station and rolled in at 4psi. Tire was FLAT. I believe I was in the Ruskin heights area??

A group of men saw me get out and Check out my tire and that I had kids with me. They approached and asked if they could help. I don’t know how to change of tire, so I was grateful. This group of strangers wouldn’t let me help in anyway. They just got right in there and helped. They even drove down the street with my busted tire and wheel to a local tire shop and had them put a new tire on my wheel…bc I would not make it home on a spare. I had a long drive on the highway. Strangers. Fronted their own money. Spent their own time to help me get a tire. I paid them for the tire when they came back. They brought a floor jack (apparently these are better) and they got a tire back on my car. Not only that. One of them never left my side and bought my kids pizza and wings. They would not accept any money from me.

I have never experienced this level of kindness. They genuinely just wanted to help me and my kids get back on the road. This whole ordeal took 2.5 hours maybe. It could have been so stressful and just an awful day, but these men made it so much better. I can’t even explain how grateful I am.

Sports 🏈⚾️⚽️ To the runner who stopped to help me during today’s KC Marathon

Around mile 16 or 17 of the marathon today, my legs completely seized up and I collapsed. A few runners behind me immediately started yelling for an officer, and one guy stopped, knelt down, and helped stretch out my calf. He talked to me for a bit and made sure I was alright before continuing his race.

I ended up needing EMS assistance and unfortunately couldn’t finish. Bummed about it, but really grateful for everyone who stopped to help.

I know it’s a long shot he’ll see this, but if you’re out there, thank you man. You had your own race to run and still took the time to help some random guy on the ground. Really meant a lot.

And to everyone else who called for help or checked on me, thank you too. Just a really special reminder of how good people can be.

Things To Do 📍 Atlas 9 movie nights

For those of you who have been to atlas 9, could you explain what is included?

Admission is around $35-45 for 3 hours. However, a movie is $10. The site says the movie ticket price includes 2 hours inside before the movie.

So, is the $10 price really all? Explore Atlas 9 and a movie? Or is regular admission needed a well?

Did you have fun? How long did it take you? Did you understand what you are doing?

It looks intriguing!

KC Rants 😡 👎 Ren Fest Parking Is Atrocious

Currently have been sitting for an hour to get out of the Ren Fest parking lot. Lots of traffic control workers who are standing around doing nothing. Not sure what the if it’s KCKPD, the Sheriff’s Office, or the Ren Fest themselves who organize this but this is ridiculous.

Discussion 💡 Digital antenna recs?

With the economy as it is, I’m thinking of cutting my YouTube TV subscription, which I barely use. I have a modern flat screen TV and I would like to hook up a digital antenna to it. Does anyone have a recommendation for an antenna that actually works that I can simply set next to the TV and get reception? Specifically, I’m in the Lee’s Summit area. Thsnk you.

Ask KC ❔ Photoshop Recommendations

Is anyone here good with photoshop or can suggest someone who is? I would like to extract handwriting from several pictures, then nicely put it together in a printable document/picture. Hoping to find & support someone local before exploring other options.

Any information, resources, or suggestions are appreciated!

Mechanics/Repairs/Contractors 🛠️🪠 Need vintage gas wall heater repair

Does anybody know who repairs vintage vented gas wall heaters? My HVAC company doesn't work on them. The pilot light won't stay lit even after replacing thermopile.

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 Looking for a body of water to read next to

Hello!
Life has been kicking my ass lately and I don’t have the money for a true vacation to kind of “escape” from it all.
That said, I’d like to find a body of water like a lake, pond, river, stream, creek, hell, even a babbling brook, to read near to try and relax.
I would prefer somewhere that has seating available like a picnic table or bench and maybe somewhere that’s not super noisy or overrun with families. Truly just a quiet, relaxing nook in the world to escape to.

If anyone knows of anywhere like that around the KC Metro, please let me know! I’m even down to walk a trail to get to said spot!
Especially with the weather being chilly and nicer the next couple of days, I’d like to enjoy some of the outdoors before it gets bitterly cold.

TIA!

Bars/Nightlife 🪩🍸 KC new years plans or events

Hello. I am looking for any cool things planned for new years or around that time. My bf is coming from out of state and I’m rather a homebody. Would love to go to a few events around that time.

Also looking for the best place for biscuits and gravy. My personal favorite was brown and loe but they stopped having that on the menu ages ago.

I was driving down Roe about to get onto the 435 and I swear I saw an asteroid or something falling from the sky? It looked like it was on fire and was coming straight down, it went away before I could get my phone out to film. Tell me I’m not crazy!!!

Traffic/Road Conditions 🚦❄️ Road Rage on the interstates

PSA for Kansas City drivers.
Please check in with your parents, grandparents, friends, and honestly anyone you know who drives. I swear so much of the road rage we experience could be avoided if everyone were simply on the same page about the rules of the road.

For decades, the basic understanding has been that the left lane is for passing. It’s not the “I’m going the speed limit, so everyone behind me can deal with it” lane.

If you’re uncomfortable driving at the pace of faster traffic, that’s perfectly fine! That’s why we have a right lane. You can drive at a speed that’s safe and appropriate for the conditions without unnecessarily obstructing everyone else. And when the left lane is clear, other drivers can pass safely.

Nobody is asking you to speed, drive recklessly, or do anything that makes you uncomfortable. Just be aware of the traffic around you and understand that your personal comfort level doesn’t dictate how everyone else should drive.

This works beautifully when everyone understands the system. Less frustration, less dangerous passing, and hopefully a whole lot less road rage.
But seriously, are they not teaching these rules anymore? Or have we genuinely reached a point where people are so wrapped up in their own little worlds that considering anyone around them is just too much to ask?

Ask KC ❔ Local place for Frying pan warped bottom repair

I have a set of frying pans that I like using. Over the years the bottoms have warped and are not flat. It’s caused from not letting the pans cool before washing them in the sink. I’m looking for any local places that offer a service to re-flatten the bottoms.

I’ve attempted it myself about a year ago and it sort of helped but I don’t have the right tools. My fire pit and makeshift blacksmithing hammer noises echoed through the neighborhood. I just don’t want to buy new ones and throw these out because that’s just wasteful.

Bars/Nightlife 🪩🍸 Any options for karaoke on Mondays?

I had plans with a group of friends to go to do karaoke Monday night, but found that the place we had in mind is closed.

We'd like to go while a friend of ours is still in town, and that friend leaves Tuesday. It looks like the couple of dedicated karaoke places in town aren't open on Mondays, and I can't find any bars with recurring karaoke nights on Mondays (it's not like Monday is exactly the peak time for customers who want to go clubbing).

Does anyone know any options? Or are we out of luck?

Getting Around KC/Parking 🅿️🚏🚲 Any good driving roads?

Just bought a sports car and I’m looking for fun places to drive around. I’m trying to find some fun curvy/scenic roads to cruise and maybe spots to take some pictures as well.
