Pei Wei Creve Coeur: It Gets Worse

Post image
63 Upvotes

Apparently, reporting cockroaches and asking for time to recover from a workplace injury is a great way to find out how quickly your employer can make your hours disappear.

I’m the employee who posted about the cockroach infestation at Pei Wei in Creve Coeur last week. Unfortunately, the roaches weren’t the only thing management was letting slide.

For the entire summer, we worked in a kitchen reaching 93°F with inadequate cooling. It’s finally cooled down, but whether the AC was repaired or Missouri’s weather came to the rescue, I couldn’t tell you.

I also suffered a second-degree burn on the job. I temporarily reduced my availability to recover, then asked for my regular hours back. Instead, I got five hours a week. Eventually, zero.

I’ve since asked my manager THREE times whether I’m still employed. He’s read every message and ignored all three, yet somehow found time to quietly add one five-hour shift back to my schedule.

So I haven’t quit, nobody’s fired me, and apparently my employment status is now classified information.

And before anyone asks: yes, I’ve already reported the cockroaches to the health department, the heat to OSHA, and filed a separate OSHA retaliation complaint.

Just a reminder...

This is just a reminder not to get a home or auto insurance policy through State Farm. Myself and hundreds of other St. Louis residents impacted by the May 2025 tornado still have unresolved claims in spite of being right in the middle of a federally declared disaster and having our homes significantly damaged or destroyed. They are horrific swindlers and will do everything possible to delay and not pay out your claim. They are not your good neighbor.

TLDR: DO NOT USE STATE FARM INSURANCE

Moving to St. Louis Outsider thinking of moving to St.Louis.

• Upvotes

As the title says a part of me feels pulled to St. Louis. I have lived my life predominantly in the western states, it's all I've ever known. Where I am now everyone is pretty pissed about all the new people moving in and crowding the area. I can only imagine you guys would feel the same about me moving there. But if I did... how is it to live there? Do you like it? Anything I should know about the different areas? Anything helps 😅🙏💜 (except for mean comments, if you dont think I should move there just put a thumbs down or scroll past 😅)

Ask STL Hey STL Birders, is this a sandpiper?

Post image

I don’t think I’ve seen a sandpiper downtown before.

I checked my Birds of Missouri Field Guide, but I’m not confident enough to call it a Spotted Sandpiper or an Upland Sandpiper.

Thanks!

Would there be an interest if an authentic Indonesian restaurant was in the greater stl area?

• Upvotes

My wife and I are thinking of opening an Indonesian restaurant in the greater St. Louis area and wanted to put some feelers out to see if there would be interest in Indonesian cuisine.

We have been thinking of a name for the restaurant which we have decided on Rasa Indonesia, which roughly translates to Indonesian cuisine that holds significant cultural value.

Some of the main courses we are thinking would be Rendang (a slow cooked savory beef served over rice with a water spinach side)
Bakso soup (beef tenon balls served as a soup with noodles and has potato carrots and shallots)
Nasi goreng (traditional Indonesian fried rice)
Ayam goreng (Indonesian fried chicken)
Sop buntut (Indonesian oxtail soup)

Appetizers would be
Sate (chicken, beef, or duck skewers)
Pempek (fried fish balls)
Tempeh (fermented and fried soybean)

Salads
Pecel (a mix of vegetables in a sweet sauce)
Ketoprak (tofu salad)
Gado gado(mixed veggies with tempe, eggs and tofu lightly boiled and served with a nutty sauce)
Karedok(similar to a spring or house salad served with a peanut sauce dressing)

Desserts
Martabak manis(a sweet pancake containing peanuts, bananas, and a sweet cheese and chocolate)
Pisang goreng (fried banana served with ice cream)
Kue putu (rice flower based cake that is filled with palm sugar and flavored with pandan leaves and steamed)

LeafGuard St. Louis Quote Experience

Had a guy from LeafGuard at my house today to do an estimate on new gutters. He really wanted to give a sales pitch, but I am already familiar with the product also know that I need new gutters. So, told him that and I just wanted the pricing. He was clearly frustrated, gave me a "discounted" price of $99 per foot, so on my house $16K. Other solutions are in the $30 per foot range. Would not give me a price on just the rear of the house (where I have the greatest need). Mumbled something under his breath about wasting his time and left. Would not recommend them for the lack of professionalism as well as unreasonable pricing.

Food / Drink Best apple cider

What is the best apple cider you've had in STL? I know the best will probably be from an apple orchard like Eckerts, and I hope to get out there at some point, but at the moment I'm looking for something I can just pick up (I live in Webster),

Voting on Judges

How are we supposed to know whether or not we want to retain certain judges? St. Louis county at least recommends retaining all the judges. But it is so hard to find any information on them! There are a few who I can tell, but is there any other way other than looking at who appointed them to see where they are falling? I have such a hard time with the judges and I want to be prepared

Mapping SLMPD Reported Crashes

Thumbnail stlcrashmap.com
23 Upvotes

I put together a map that shows SLMPD reported crashes from the daily reports. It'll update every day with the previous day's reports. Some state reported accidents don't show up on the SLMPD reports and accidents that are still under investigation might not make it into a SLMPD report until they're closed. Eventually I'd like to incorporate state data as it gives actual lat/long instead of the nearest intersection.

The hotspots are interesting but generally what you'd expect - Gravois and Downtown. The number of hit and runs is wild.

Suggestions for a Vet Tech / experienced medical sitter for in-home morning cat medication

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for recommendations for a Vet Tech, Vet Assistant, or professional medical pet sitter who does in home visits around UMSL (a 5-minute walk from Normandy Animal Hospital).

Here’s the situation:

I have a senior cat who needs daily morning prescription medication (1 capsule + 1/2 pre-cut tablet) in a consistent window (ideally between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM). He is very friendly and sweet, but he hates taking meds. Boarding him at a pet hotel or boarding facility is completely impossible (severely stressed).

The main challenge is that he’s very sneaky about pills. He will fake swallowing them, hold them in his mouth, and then spit them out minutes later when no one is looking (to be fair, the capsule smells a bit like garlic, so I don't blame him).

I recently did a 1-day trial with a sitter. She was super sweet and spent a lot of time trying, and I definitely don't fault her, but he still managed to secretly spit out the half-tablet (I only discovered it on the floor when I got back the afternoon LOL).

I need to travel for about 4 days next week, so I really need someone with veterinary/medical handling experience (e.g., vet tech, vet assistant, or mobile tech) who knows proper pilling techniques (chasing with water, checking the throat, and hanging around for 15–20 minutes to verify it actually stayed down).

BTW, if you work at VSS, you probably know who I am and my big orange cat.

Does anyone have recommendations for independent vet techs who do house calls, mobile services, or specialized medical sitters servicing the UMSL area? Happy to pay professional rates for someone reliable.
