VKB Mk IV vs. Mk V

Dear pilots! I finally turned SpaceBourne 2 into a real space sim: free HOTAS / HOSAS, pedals & head tracking mod

SpaceBourne 2 is a great space game, but it never had proper HOTAS support. So I built SB2 HOTAS, a free, open-source mod.

  • Analog pitch / roll / yaw / throttle / strafe / lift on any axis of any device. Mix stick, throttle and pedals from different brands.
  • HOSAS works: two sticks, even two identical ones, which are told apart by USB port. Caps Lock speed lock lets a spring-centred throttle stick hold a speed.
  • Head tracking with OpenTrack (webcam is enough), plus Look axes for a mini-stick.
  • Throttle: forward-only or full range, a separate reverse lever (nice on dual throttles), and reverse buttons.
  • Buttons, hats, rotary selectors and toggle switches bind to game keys with Hold / Tap / Tap on/off modes, so selectors never jam a key.
  • Templates: X-56, X52/X52 Pro, Extreme 3D Pro, T.16000M, TWCS, T.Flight HOTAS X/4/One, Warthog, TFRP, Saitek pedals, VKB Gladiator.
  • One-click install and uninstall; it doesn't modify the game exe.

Download & guide: https://github.com/hubertdungen/SpaceBourne2-HOTAS

Tested on my X-56 + T.Flight Rudder Pedals + OpenTrack. The other templates are best-guess axis numbers, so if you fly with one of them, export your profile and share it so I can mark it verified. Linux/Steam Deck (Proton) scripts are in there too, still experimental.

Just got a big promotion. Help me build a dope setup! Plz.

Hi guys and gals. I’d like to do a full HOTAS setup, I mainly like to fly in MSFS 2024, DCS, and Nuclear option. I also do like space sims like Star Citizen and I’d like to move away from mouse and keyboard. My current HOTAS is an old outdated Logitech. I also have very old petals that just need to be thrown away.

I would really like to do something with VKB’s or maybe warthog. Definitely would like to do a setup with my chair as my desk is wooden and doesn’t really support mounting just by how it was built.

My budget is in and around 800$.

Current chair is a AndaSeat Kaiser 3 chair and I’m certain it supports mounts for HOTAS because that was a main reason as to why I purchased it.

Really would love the help. Thanks in advance.

What is a good price to sell a used VKB Gunfighter IV?

I've got an old VKB Gunfighter IV Modern Combat edition with the long extender and twist adapter, and one of VKB's longer table mounts that I bought back in 2023. I don't need it any more so I was looking to sell it on eBay/Facebook Marketplace. Everything works on the stick including all the buttons and hat switches.

I think I have all the bits that came in the box outside of the table plate that you'd use to just have it sit on your table. I lost the plate somwhere but with the table mount and the extender I don't think it's super important.

What would be a good price to sell them both together at? My original order was around $750 so I was thinking somewhere around the $450-$500 mark, but I'm not sure if that's too much since it is used.

Any help is appriciated.

AB9 FFB desk mounting solution

TL;DR: MonsterTech AB9 desk-to-floor mount lacks grip, chews up cheap desk, and protrudes too far out when clamped to the desk edge. Cobbled together a solution using T-slot rails and some vinyl floor tile.

--------------------------

Jumped on the FFB bandwagon recently, getting a good deal on a used AB9. In my excitement, I didn't fully appreciate the difficulty of a attaining secure and ergonomic FFB mount setup without the luxury of a simpit.

Being heavily space constrained with a desk setup (also used for work), I needed an easily moveable solution. I also prefer a centre mount setup with a 10cm extension, which ruled out the official Moza desk mount.

Googling around revealed the only other off-the-shelf AB9 mount currently available seems to be the MonsterTech long desk mount with floor support. On receiving and setting this up, I found that the stick protruded too far out from my desk, putting the stick in an awkward position relative to the throttle (also on an MT desk mount). The clamp also had a tendency to slip and crush my cheap laminate IKEA desk when tightened.

Thought about cobbling together some sort of wooden pedestal to be attached to the rudder pedals to prevent movement, but concluded this would take up too much floor space when out of use (in addition to challenge of building in adjustability in the vertical/longitudinal axes).

Finally opted for the solution pictured - a set of T-slot tracks screwed to the bottom of the desk, with a section of LVT floor tile between for the MT mount to clamp onto. The LVT provides much better grip for the clamp, and combined with the T-slot rails and MT mount allow adjustability in 3 axes.

Having a blast with the setup - FFB adds a huge amount to the warbird/cold war jet experience in DCS. Think it has improved my landings in the F-4 too, so now have to find a new skill issue to overcome.

Thanks for reading my odyssey of discovery. Thought I'd share in case it provides inspiration to anyone running into the same problem. Suggestions on more elegant solutions welcome! Now to figure out cable management...

WinCtrl Orion 2 throttle and joystick base combo

Im currently on T16000 (no throttle), and I decided I want to play BMS as my hobby. Since I plan to invest some time into the sim, I decided I need a real, “high end” HOTAS that will last me at least 3 years and for it to be precise and have as many functions as possible. Since the 90% of hateful comments about Winwing are about customer support, and 10% about easy breaking hardware, I decided that I’ll rather have a high end hotas then buying a VKB with TWCS for the same money, customer support isn’t worth downgrading 10 steps behind.

The orion 2 base’s seeem to be very nice, actually imoressive for the price and way better than ultra budget Vipril and VKB options that are very pricey in EU. For my market, WinCrtl seems to be the only company that has normal pricing. I can wait till black friday, Im guessing it will then be 230-290e for HOTAS. Not to mention the EU rules about customer support and rights, I can just send it back for no reason and get my money back, also I need to have 2 years warrant on the product no matter what is the standard warranty globaly.

I really think that people compalining about winwing are mostly americans, and I think that they have some problems with shipping and they are probably just trying to avoid servicing their products because of time and money.

On the other hand, EU seems to be better in terms of shipping costs, costumer support and overall experience.

Conclusion: Winwing has the best price to penformance products, much lower taxes/shipping costs than VKB (For example in USA gladiator is 130-140ish? And in EU probably around 200ish, either way even If I am wrong, VKB gladiator is litteraly worse joystick in every aspect, for the same price).

Unsure what to buy

Hello. I bought Thrustmaster TCA flight stick, bolted it on to my sim rig, realized this is the coolest thing ever and ordered a Moza AB6. :D Very excited

But now im stuck without a throttle. Im not sure what exactly im going to play in the future, currently flying and doing stuff in War Thunder is pretty fun. Im looking into moving to DCS, but after i get into it im afraid it will be eternal bottomless hole of me needing 30 button panel for stuff i will use only because i can.

So back to the throttle. As planes are different and have billion different buttons, how to go about this? Get generic unrealistic one? Get realistic one, get used to it and use it on everything else too? How do people go on about flying sims and having some buttons and not some buttons.

qustin on GF IV and extra.

Hi, my X52 stick decided to commit sepuku after 4 years of service.
I have some money on the side and it's a couple of months I am picking together a full house.
my current idea is:
Vkb GF IV , VKB-Sim T-Rudder Pedals , and my x52 throtel.

1) Is the black box sold only on the side, or is it like a one package deal with GfIV base stick and black box?

2) This is more of a how was your experience kind of question. I am still deciding between the space combat and the modern combat grip (the non-ultimate version). If someone of you has experience with both and can give some opinions?
I play mostly War Thunder sim, Nuclear Option, Windows Flight sim, and I was starting with DCS right before my stick died.

3) Last question is more generic. In the future I'd like to upgrade my x52 i really like WinCtrl F16 style throttle. As now is "only" 230. Is it a bad idea to mix mach components from different brands?
on me, it is more of a concern with the software because I didn't really use it a lot with the x52, so I have 0 experience on how this kind of software works.i am concerd that haveing them on wil plaing culd blot my mid to low brand pc.

thx to havery one f you.

Can the Turtle Beach VelocityOne Flightstick be used as a one-handed controller for PC games

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm considering buying a Turtle Beach VelocityOne Flightstick for an unconventional purpose, and I'd like to know whether my idea is technically feasible before spending the money.

I mainly play Final Fantasy XI, an MMORPG, and I'd like to repurpose this flightstick as a left-hand controller for general PC gaming, rather than using it for flight simulation.

My planned setup is:

Main joystick: Character movement.

H2 thumbstick: Camera control, ideally mapped to the right stick of a virtual Xbox controller.

Other buttons: Mapped to gamepad inputs for in-game actions.

Right hand: Remains on my mouse and a separate programmable keyboard, which I use for macros and shortcuts.

Essentially, I'd like to use the flightstick for movement, camera control, and some gamepad inputs, while keeping my right hand free for mouse control and additional keyboard shortcuts.

I have a few questions:

1.Can the H2 thumbstick be mapped to the right stick of a virtual Xbox controller using Steam Input, UCR, or another Windows remapping tool?

2.Does the H2 expose two continuous analog axes on PC, and can third-party software access them reliably?

3.Can the main joystick and other buttons be mapped independently, so that I can use the joystick for movement while assigning the buttons to gamepad inputs?

4.How comfortable is the grip for extended use? Is the main joystick's centering spring too stiff for frequent character movement?

5.Has anyone used this flightstick as a general-purpose controller for non-flight games, especially MMORPGs?

I don't need every control to work perfectly out of the box. I'm willing to experiment with software configuration, but I'd like to know whether the basic setup is realistic.

I'd really appreciate feedback from anyone who owns this exact model or has experience with similar setups.

Thanks!

Banned From the WinCtrl Sub 😥

Post image
111 Upvotes

Well, permanently muted is really a ban. You'll see some people defending them (oh I hAvE tHeM aNd tHeY'rE fiNe) but I have saved ample evidence of their poor quality control and incompetent customer support. It was a conversation with one of their support team that made my decision for me, never to do business with them. I didn't seek them out on Reddit but their sub kept coming up on my feed so I chimed in when I had something pertinent to the discussion. And now I'm so proud of myself for being muted. However, if they dislike my criticism it is not going to have the effect they want. My VKBs are fantastic by the way. Be careful with your money folks. WinCtrl may look cheap but they work out expensive if they break or are shipped broken, customer support won't help you and you end up buying VKB or Virpil anyway.

My only comment on the sub from the past week is below. I presume this is what got me the ban:

WinCtrl sub - 18th of October 2026

I keep track of the complaints about WinCtrl in the hotas sub and a few others. They were rampant this time last year and into early 2026 then tailed off and started to pick up a bit when Wardogs launched. You could read that two ways. Maybe their quality is getting better or maybe Reddit users aren't buying from them as much because the takeaway from reading the hotas sub is to buy VKB or Virpil and nothing else.

Joystick Gobloon — HidHide, vJoy and Joystick Gremlin in one app

Thumbnail
gallery
62 Upvotes

Hi all,

If you fly with a HOTAS, you probably know the usual trio: HidHide to hide the physical sticks from the game, vJoy for the virtual joystick, and Joystick Gremlin to map one to the other. That's three apps, three interfaces, and all of them have to be set up right and running. At some point I wondered why this couldn't be one app. That's how Joystick Gobloon started.

First, huge respect to the people behind the originals: Benjamin Höglinger-Stelzer (Nefarius) for HidHide, Shaul Eizikovich for vJoy (and Justin Shafer for the signed 2.1.9.1 build), and Lionel Ott (WhiteMagic) for Joystick Gremlin. Joystick Gobloon doesn't throw their work away, it's built on top of it. It uses the existing HidHide and vJoy drivers and opens your Gremlin profiles as they are.

What it does

  • Opens Joystick Gremlin profiles and saves them back in Gremlin's format without losing anything. All the Gremlin actions are there: response curves, modes, tempo, double tap, chains, macros, keyboard and mouse output, merge/split axis, conditions, and more.
  • Map controls: a profile made on another PC gets matched to your devices in one click.
  • vJoy right in the app: create, change and remove virtual devices without Configure vJoy, plus a built-in output tester.
  • Device hiding with one click on a stick's eye icon. You also manage which programs may still see hidden devices.
  • Input viewer with live graphs of every axis, button and hat, and axis calibration.
  • The interface speaks your language: English, Русский, Deutsch, Español, Français, 简体中文 and 한국어. A new language is just a translated text file, and contributions are welcome.
  • Tray icon, start with Windows, light/dark theme.
  • The installer also installs the signed HidHide and vJoy drivers if they're missing.
  • Free, MIT licensed, Windows 10/11.

About the drivers

Neither vJoy nor HidHide has had a new signed release in years. Long term I'd love to write one universal driver that covers both. What stops me is cost: getting a kernel driver signed through Microsoft takes an expensive certificate, and that's hard to justify for a free hobby project. So for now Joystick Gobloon works with the existing signed drivers.

About the Windows warning

Windows SmartScreen may warn you the first time you run it (More info → Run anyway). The app isn't code-signed yet. I applied for free signing through the SignPath Foundation, but they turned it down for now: they only sign projects that already have public visibility, meaning users, GitHub stars, and discussions like this one. So it's a closed loop of trust: to get signed you need users, and users want the app to be signed. All the code is on GitHub, so you can read it or build it yourself. And if you find the project useful, a star on GitHub genuinely helps break that loop.

How it's built

I'm a .NET developer by trade. But I believe a tool like this, one that runs all the time next to your game and sits between your stick and the sim, shouldn't be written in Python, C# or Java. It should be as fast and light on memory as possible, which means something like Rust. Learning Rust from scratch to the level this project needs would have taken me a very long time. So I chose a different approach: the code is written with Claude Code (an AI coding tool), while I drive the design, understand and review what it produces, and stay in control at every stage, from architecture to testing on real hardware to releases.

If you're a Rust pro and want to join in, I'd be really glad to have you.

Status: alpha. I use it daily with a dual-VKB Star Citizen setup, but expect rough edges. Feedback, bug reports and feature requests are very welcome.

t-16000m without throttles for MSFS good option?

Hi, im a retired sim pilot coming back to the hobby after about 10/15 years. Back in my days hotas were only saitek.

I found a very good deal on marketplace of all places for a almost new t-16000m without the throttles.

My biggest question its if the slider on the base of the stick is good enough/mappeable as throttle. i dont do dcs or much manual flying, i just want a decent enough slider for throttles. Any user of this stick can give me their opinion? Ty very much

Ps: Im not in america or a country with easy access to amazon so options are limited or very expensive

VKB Gladiator double Omnithrottle experiences?

Hello everyone. Since I wanted to treat myself with new sticks, also in anticipation of Squadron 42, I went to VKB to take a look at their gear.

I originally wanted to go with an omnithrottle on the left and a normal stick on the right, but the right-hand stick was sold out, so I just went with two omnithrottles. I have always been a HOTAS guy and have never used a HOSAS system, so I am even more excited to see how two omnithrottles will feel.

Does anyone have experience with this combo?

Upgrading from a G940: where to even start?

As the title suggests, I’m starting to consider replacing my current setup. I love it but there are just far too many wires and it’s far too bulky without the ability to mount. I would like to be able to slowly build the right kid, and perhaps get a solid hotas before eventually replacing the pedals.

Main problem is the wire scourge but also I play everything from DCS/falcon/IL/war thunder/he’ll let loose/ace combat / and even the no man’s sky and other space ship sims. I need a good base system that can kind of cover everything.

I don’t need a complete system suggestion, just a pointer on where to start decomposing my current setup

RC controller button box

Post image
41 Upvotes

Anyone else using RC controllers like those using OpenTX as button/switch/knob boxes?

You can get a Taranis QX7 for like $75-100, and you get 2 knobs 1 with a detent, 6 switches 5 of them 3 way one a toggle, 4 two way trim buttons, and 4 axis that can be modified at will to stay in place or centered and have different levels of friction or spring.

It’s pretty awesome
