I am not the type of person to sort laundry or hang shirts to dry. What’s your favorite hiking shirt that can go in the same cycle as your other clothes?

I’ve been wondering how much of an issue wet rucksack straps are when hiking in prolonged rain.
Most people seem to use a waterproof cover over the main body of their rucksack, but obviously the shoulder straps and hip belt are still exposed.
For those who regularly hike in wet conditions:
Do your straps become saturated, and does it actually cause discomfort?
Do you find moisture transferring through to your clothing?
Is a standard rucksack rain cover enough, or have you found other solutions?
Is this something that genuinely bothers you, or is it just part of hiking in the rain?
Curious to hear people’s experiences, especially those hiking in typical UK weather!

I’m 19 years old so I can’t rent a car and I’d really like to hike a tall peak. Problem is most of them here in the US are a long drive from any airport and as I learned the hard way, you can’t trust uber if you’re hiking from a remote spot.
Any advice?

I am a beginner walker from the UK, with only day-walks in the bag. I am physically very fit but technically inexperienced with regard to scrambling (and I don't have the best head for heights, although capable of pushing through when the situation requires it).
I dream of completing the GR20 within the next few years (ASAP, really) but I am aware that it is not for beginners and wouldn't dream of attempting it prematurely.
Which backpacking hikes would be good preparation for this goal? I want to do the TMB soon but I know it's less elevation change.
In general, how could I train to achieve this goal?

This was off season, so the flowers weren’t in bloom, others the hills would just be filled with all the colors, but it was still such a serene view.

I just started college and its getting to that time of year for backpacking. And this school sucks joined the outdoor club nothing i truly cant make a connection. But when i was backpacking overseas during the summer solo it was so easy. But now no one sees it from my pov. Climbing and hiking is the only thing that has been consistent no matter how hard it is. I mean i go solo almost every weekend and climb 3-4x a week. Cant even make connections at the gym here mega gyms are so soulless in a way coming from a local more community focused climbing gym is hard. Im going to do Kilimanjaro next July i was supposed to go with others who all backed out and I’m going alone now. I truly don’t know how to put it into a way that makes sense. But the only times i feel joy is outdoors pushing myself i feel so behind when I’m not. What is any advice y’all can give me on this especially those who have been through this. Thanks

Hiking in -4°C 🥶 Had to layer up for this one. What do you guys think of the fit? Any suggestions for improving my cold-weather hiking outfit?

going to be joining the Gold Coast come February. Does anybody have any gear recommendations, general advice or trail recommendations? I’ve lived around and hiked the Rockies my whole life, everything that can harm you here is an animal more than double your size or the weather. Is there anything I should invest in or look into that I wouldn’t already have that would be worth getting before moving?

I have recently moved house and have done 5 empty spins to get rid of detergent before re-proofing my jacket but there are loads of suds still on the empty cycles.
What is best to do? Just wash the jacket or keep running empty loads?

Hi fellow hikers, I have 2 trips coming up to California. A work trip in mid Nov to San Francisco and a personal trip to San Diego during Christmas break. I would greatly appreciate some recommendations for good day hikes in both. I would like to stick to day hikes - Up to 12 to 15 miles max in length and no more than 3000 feet in elevation gain. I am an intermediate hiker without too much experience in Class 3/4. Would prefer to avoid any heavy duty scrambling. I am in my mid fifties, and in pretty fit. Thank you so much for your suggestions!!

Hi Guys,
Just a few questions about the Earnslaw burn track hike. I’m 20M and looking to do the Earnslaw burn track solo. I’ve seen videos on TikTok and read reviews all over the internet and it seems to be a pretty hard hike. Are these reviews credible or just bad reviews from inexperienced hikers who realised they weren’t fit for the challenge. I’m looking to go over the next couple of days and am staying in Queenstown.
Is there phone coverage for most of the trail or is there no reception?
How long does it actually take to the view point and back?
How easy is it to lose the track and is most of the track marked with arrows on the trees?
Has anyone done it recently and can give me a good idea of the current conditions?
Has anyone got photos of the viewpoint recently?
Is it doable to do the whole hike in one day?
Any help or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, what gear do I need to climb Świnica in november? Will I need an ice axe and do I need to buy proper crampons, or are small rubber strap microspikes enough?
I'm a beginner. My experience is Giewont in winter, Świnica and one 2000m peak in the alps in summer

Despite the rapid change of elevation, this was actually a very mild hike. Takes about an hour or less, depending on how quickly you want to move. It’s in the middle of northern-ish Phoenix, and provides a breathtaking view of the city when you reach the summit. 😍

Saxer Lucke peak, Apenzell, Switzerland. My hike route was from Brulisau to Fallanhsee to Saxer Lucke to Hoher Kasten. My toes died that day.

compromising shoelaces (thay finally give out) at the beginning of a hike, or breaking a guitar string in the middle of a gig.
We decided to take an afternoon hike at red table trail. For a few good pictures from the top.

We don't get lot of rain sadly, the regeneration is going slowly.
Mountain is called Tadjera, it is at 850m~ above sea level, the beaches nearby are beautiful, also difficult to access to, and I hope it will always be the case 💧
Distance crossed : 15km 🐌

Did an overnighter. We took a shortcut back to the car and didn’t realise the route was so exposed. Sore knees by the end but always worth it.

A local guy recommended this hike to us. I believe it was Narvtinden, but the trails were very muddy and slippery, as they had been throughout our trip. After about 20–30 minutes, we reached this spot and decided to stop and enjoy our lunch with a view. Unlike the more popular hikes we’d done, we had this spot completely to ourselves.
