I have been taking an interest in golf lately. Went to the range a few times with friends... And finally decided it's time for lessons. But I'm a girl and girl coaches are honestly far and few in my area... I found this coach and the first lesson was alright.

A few times he positioned my arm at the angle it should be or guided my club to how it should fall down.

But the second lesson he was overly touchy... Was giving me the ick.almost borderline hugging, back hug, full wrapping around my shoulders, twisting my waist or hips, and even grazed side boob....

Are they always this touchy. Seriously. Or this pervert uncle's got to go!?

Unbelievable round at Royal Hawaiian. People were not joking about the challenge of this place. 18 of the most diabolical holes pieced together. That being said, one of the most visually stunning places I have ever been. I would 10/10 pay the price of admission just to see the views alone, plus it was in decent condition.

Last day to play for the season. Was supposed to play with a friend but he couldn't join so I went out alone.

At the 4th hole I sliced it over to the previous hole, the ball was buried in the grass so I didn't expect too much. Hit my PW and landed on the green and saw it roll towards the hole and then disappeared, I thought it went past the green. Walked up and saw it in the cup, felt super happy and ecstatic that I got my first eagle, and that it was from 120 meters away! But since I was playing alone I had no one to celebrate with.

I'm a 19 handicap and have played golf for 5 years and I got my first eagle, but I still feel empty. Is this just how it feels when you make an eagle, HIO etc? Anyone that has done a similar thing while playing alone, how did it feel afterwards?

Best round of my year so far, and couldn’t come at a better time. 2 birdies, 8 pars, 7 bogeys, and a double. With 27 putts I was feeling unstoppable, especially with only 5 GIR. Lots of easy chips from barely off the green.

If you want to get better at golf and shoot lower scores - lessons are 100% worth investing in.

BUT

Getting a golf lesson from the best teacher in the world ALONE is not going to really move the needle much. If golf is a journey, then a lesson is the act of pulling out a map and changing your course to move towards your destination. You still need to be putting in the work OUTSIDE your lesson time to practicing the feedback you get at your lesson.

If you sign up for a lesson I would also recommend you make a plan for when and how you're going to spend time on your own working on what your coach tells you.

Setup a hitting net and get an old driving range mat in your back yard. Get a putting mat in your basement. I've improved a ton by putting on a 36" wooden ruler in my kitchen. Get an old piece of carpet square and practice chipping at small targets. Do slo-motion reps with a stick while you're watching TV. This is the stuff that actually yields the improvement. The coach and the lesson simply point you in the right direction.

Well, we've officially lost Wyckoff Country Club in Holyoke, MA, and this one really pisses me off.

Cesar Ruiz bought the course in 2025, promising the previous owners and community that he'd preserve it and invest millions into improving it. In just over a year, he's closing it and planning to build 126 upscale homes instead. So much for those promises.

And this wasn't some shitty muni nobody played. Wyckoff dates back to 1898, was redesigned by Donald Ross, and was easily one of the most challenging courses in Massachusetts thanks to its brutal layout and terrain.

And here's what really blows my mind. Who the hell is going to pay a premium for an "upscale home" in Holyoke? The city's infrastructure is crumbling, crime is a serious problem, and the school district is one of the worst-performing in the state and only recently came out of state receivership. Those aren't exactly selling points for people looking to spend big money on a house. You can build all the luxury homes you want, but you can't pretend the problems surrounding them don't exist.

Over 125 years of golf history gone for a development that I'm not even convinced makes sense. What a fucking shame.

i attempted golfing for about a year back in 2018-2019 and then my friend who i golfed with moved away so i took a long break. im now looking to get back into it pretty heavily. i have a set of ping clubs from back then that seem pretty solid still. i know the ping g series are solid game improvement irons. i also have a ping g30 driver, 3 wood, and 4 hybrid.

I am not a terrible golfer but still working on a lot. i can typically shoot in the mid 50s on 9

This is probably a silly question but should i just stick with these clubs and play for another year or two and work on fundamentals and improving my game or should i consider purchasing a modern set of irons. budget isnt really a major factor but i also dont want to waste money for no reason. how do these g series irons/ driver compare to modern days game improvement irons?

More distance off the tee? Fewer lost balls? Better putting? Or just hitting a few more fairways?

I’m curious what everyone’s biggest struggle is when they get out for a round on the weekend.

And has any piece of equipment actually helped you improve, or is it mostly down to practice?

Hole 1, par 5, second shot. 250 yards out. Tough first 4 holes, but I'll take any round this late in the season. Our course closes Nov.11 every year. When does your course close?

Not sure if anyone is planning a trip to Spain for golf but I would avoid El Chaparal for at least the next year. The greens are diseased and the fairways are black. Not sure what’s going on with it but encourage to avoid and book Torrequebrada or Calanova.

Started playing 5 months ago and just played a round for the 3rd time. I've been mostly range and 1 lesson so far. I decided I wanted to keep score and see what I was working with.

I played the front 9 on a par 61 course with a buddy of mine and shot 60. Par on the front half was 31.

I played basically everything out. I picked up 2 separate puts that were inches away after 3 putting failed, took a drop due to a muddy bunker, and took an extra ball after launching 1 into the woods. I added a stroke for each situation and counted my wiffs.

I hit 2 bogies, 1 double, and 2 triples. I lipped out for my first par and my heart skipped a beat lmao. Honestly despite being bad it was so much fun to try and lock in and score as well as I could. I'm playing 18 this weekend, I'm obsessed.

Needed a place to nerd out and love this sub.

I bombed a drive 230 on a par 5. (I'm 68 and 18 handicap, 230 is a bomb), smoked a 3w 210 (also a bomb). Hit a short sided chip to 18 inches and made the putt for birdie. Ended up beating my golf buddy that day to win this season series that we have a massive $20 bet on yearly. Yep, 20+ rounds for $20 total . Apparently bragging rights are a thing, who knew?

Hoping to get a solo tee time in the next couple of weeks. Never played. If I do get one, any suggestions, tips if you have played there. I would be traveling there from a different state. Curious if there are any other smaller less bucket list but good courses I can play when there that won’t break the bank.

Shoutout to u/markrand07 for coming through with the kirkland clubs. He bought and shipped them to me from costco last week. My wife was convinced i was getting scammed, but nope, the clubs showed up and the deal was real. 🤣

now i just need to get out there and shoot 100 with new clubs.
