Rewatching Game Of Thrones and Season 5 & 6 are awesome when you don’t have a bunch of people trying to convince you they aren’t

What are your guys thoughts and opinions on these 2 seasons compared to seasons 1-4, because I keep seeing so much hate towards them

Season 5 might debatably be the most grim season of the series but it might have the best 3 episode run with Hardhome, The Dance Of Dragons and Mother’s Mercy. I always hear people say the beginning is slow, but I think it’s just coming off how fast paced season 4 was, which is why it might feel that way to some people. I enjoyed most of the storylines besides Dorne even though I like Jaime and Bronn teaming up together to get Myrcella back. I thought Stannis’ plot line was gut wrenching, and I loved seeing Jon as Lord Commander.

Season 6 has so much pay off, it feels like after so much suffering viewers had to endure, fan favorite characters were actually able to accomplish their goals. I’ve seen people say it’s spectacle slop but I thoroughly disagree. The High Sparrow’s storyline became way more interesting. Seeing a transformed Theon return to Yara in Pyke weirdly made me emotional. Seeing Daenerys burn down the slave masters ships gave me chills. From seeing Brienne actually being able to protect a Stark to Ramsay finally getting the death he deserves, to Cersei becoming of Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, season 6 is packed with so many plotlines that drastically change the story I really loved revisiting it.

Do we have a rough estimation of how many friends Ser Janos Slynt truly had?

I remember him briefly mentioning that he has so many friends but he never really gave any names. Does anyone know if GRRM ever talked about this in any interviews or any info behind the statement?

How come tyrion didnt interpert this as they're being envolved in Bran's fall?

If Catelyn wasn't going to allow Jon to attend the feast, why did she have him shaved as well? Is she dumb?

Does dark haired Jaime undermine Ned Stark's theory?

Post image
1.0k Upvotes

In Season One, Ned Stark's supposed "smoking gun" evidence that Jaime was the true father of Cersei's children relied on their hair color. According to the history books, prior generations of Baratheons had black hair while Cersei's children had fair colored hair. Ned records, "The seed is strong."

So Ned ruled out that the children might just take after their fair-haired mother? And the children must have inherited their light hair color from Jaime instead? At the time, Jaime had the same Lannister dyed-blonde look as Tyrion and Cersei.

Fast forward to Season 8 as pictured. Jaime's hair isn't black but its not light either. Maybe he stopped dying his hair during his captivity. But doesn't a dark haired Jaime undermine Ned's whole hypothesis?

My assumption is that this is just a lazy continuity error by the showrunners apparently forgetting that Jaime's hair was a major plot device in Season One.

Who else thought he went off too lightly?

I feel like he went off too easily and fast. Hounds... c'mon.. dawg....

He should have suffered a bit more. He lost the battle and soon after, killed.

Robinhood (2010) has several GOT cast

I just watched Ridley Scott’s Robinhood and saw like 5 cats members from GOT, more than any movie or show I’ve seen w multiple cast members. It was fun seeing so many great actors that I love in GOT play these other characters!

What are other movies or shows have a lot of GOT actors that I should check out?

Best order to read the books in?

I've only just started reading the books.

I finished Game of Thrones a few days ago and today I got A Clash of Kings from the library. Only read the prologue so far. Poor Cressen getting bullied like that.

I'm obviously going to read the main series ASOIAF books in order until I'm up to date. But the other stuff - what order would you recommend for those?

From a Bastard and outcast to King. For someone accused of knowing nothing, he knew it all. Nobody makes it without him. Easily one of the faces of honor, bravery and leadership in modern entertainment

Theon AKA Alfie Allen Dosen't get enough praise for his role

Especially compared to actors like Peter Dinklage.....

Alfie crushed his (roles), which he had like 5 different roles to play

--

-Hostage obidient hostage starks

-Rebellious hubris son and trying to impress his dad

- Torture Victim and sliding into Severe PTSD

-Having Severe PTSD and being REEK

- Recovering from PTSD and going full Cycle back to being a good person

----

He had the most interesting character in the series and there aren't many scenes where you can fault his acting

Peter Dinklage had like 2 roles in the series, first dwarf lannister and then weird SIMP to daenrys

The Lord of Light priesthood’s agenda in Westeros

It was not just to defeat the God of Darkness but to purify non-believers by the thousands, with fire. Daenerys did not know it perhaps but she was the Lord of Light’s primary enforcer in this. We may wonder then that if Jon Snow is the Prince who was Promised, what then was his purpose if not to defeat the Great Other himself? I believe Jon had to sacrifice Daenerys so that the balance of light and dark could be restored. While the Night King and Daenerys both existed, there could be no true balance of ice and fire and Jon had to restore that balance. He was dealing with a dangerous threat on two fronts: both the Night King AND the Lord of Light, two halves of a whole, that wanted to overcome the other. However, Jon himself is often spoken as representing ‘ice’ so maybe he represents the benevolent side of that aspect. Who then represents the benevolent side of fire if not Daenerys? Sansa perhaps.

Red wedding Spoiler

I watched the red wedding episode for the first time yesterday and I’m still in shock a day later. I absolutely cannot believe what I’ve just watched. I’ve been anticipating this episode since I’ve began and that was NOT what I was expecting. I truly didn’t think it could get more shocking than Ned’s death. Especially since Robb was my favorite character. I hope Arya goes on the meanest killing spree after this. This show is bonkers and that’s all I wanted to say.

Which character was left "unharmed" by the showrunners god-awful writing in Season 8?

On my first rewatch since the show aired.

And it’s been awesome. It’s really like seeing it for the first time because I’d forgotten most of it (I’ve a shit memory). But like my other favorite show, The Walking Dead, I’ve heard many times how the last season or two is shit. What is wrong and how did they mess it up? Also, how do the spin offs hold up?
