Finished my rewatch - I really enjoyed S8

I watched GOT faithfully from the night the very first episode aired.

I watched the finale live and walked away satisfied with the ending / direction the stories were headed.

I just finished a rewatch in honor of the 15 year anniversary.

And my goodness, S8 wraps up beloved characters and stories in such a delightful way.

In my rewatching it's very clear that Bran has a bigger purpose, Dany is power hungry and willing to kill anyone for power, Jon is the reluctant leader who just wants to live a peaceful life, Sansa gets to be queen, Arya gets to explore, Gendry becomes a Lord, etc.

I love the the story continues. That those living become the next legends in the stories.

I'd love to see a spin off of the descendants of those who were in the tent in S8 E8.

Why did Ned Stark get say that Jamie Lannister stood there and did nothing when Ned’s father and grandfather were burned by Mad King?

It appears that Ned is annoyed with Jamie that he remained silent at his grandfather’s and father’s execution but then criticizes Jamie for stabbing the Mad King.

It just seems like a catch 22 unless I’m not reading into it correctly.

Was Jaime’s decision to return to Cersei at the end an act of love, or more of an act of self-hatred?

Does dark haired Jaime undermine Ned Stark's theory?

Post image
• Upvotes

In Season One, Ned Stark's supposed "smoking gun" evidence that Jaime was the true father of Cersei's children relied on their hair color. According to the history books, prior generations of Baratheons had black hair while Cersei's children had fair colored hair. Ned records, "The seed is strong."

So Ned ruled out that the children might just take after their fair-haired mother? And the children must have inherited their light hair color from Jaime instead? At the time, Jaime had the same Lannister dyed-blonde look as Tyrion and Cersei.

Fast forward to Season 8 as pictured. Jaime's hair isn't black but its not light either. Maybe he stopped dying his hair during his captivity. But doesn't a dark haired Jaime undermine Ned's whole hypothesis?

My assumption is that this is just a lazy continuity error by the showrunners apparently forgetting that Jaime's hair was a major plot device in Season One.

Do books have extra stuff

I just recently watched the show and I love it. S1-6 is probably the greatest show I have ever watched. And I want more. I want to read the books but do they have some extra stuff or are they exactly like the show

Is there anyone that preferred the books to the show?

I watched season 1 and 2 and then stopped but was thinking of just reading all the books instead of continuing on with the show

Fancast for more Targaryen ladies

Question for book experts: Which Targaryen queens and princesses do you think these characters could look like?

Note: I know most of these actresses are old now. Here I was looking for characters from other media with a similar appearance to Targaryens who could be possible visual representations. I am not casting the actors but just making a research for Targaryen women’s looks and wanted to find some visual representation for some characters in the family tree.

Characters:

First picture:
Cate Blanchett — Galadriel (The Lord of the Rings) - top left
Rosamund Pike — Andromeda (Wrath of the Titans) - top right
Freya Allan — Ciri (The Witcher) - middle left
Morfydd Clark — Galadriel (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) - middle right
Anne Hathaway — the White Queen (Alice Through the Looking Glass) - bottom left
Katheryn Winnick — Lagertha (Vikings) - bottom right

Second picture:
Rebecca Ferguson —Elizabeth Woodville (The
White Queen) - top left
Meryl Streep — Donna Sheridan (Mamma Mia!) - top right
Sarah Jessica Parker — Sarah Sanderson (Hocus Pocus) - middle left
Charlizes Theron — Queen Ravenna (Snow White and the Huntsman) - middle right
Emily Blunt — Freya (The Huntsman: Winter's War) - bottom left
Elizabeth Mitchell — Snow Queen Ingrid (Once
Upon a Time) - bottom right

Controversial opinion perhaps

Dare i say the story should’ve been wrapped up after Tywin Lannister died? When the Red Wedding happened, i certainly felt like it’s a stab through the heart but i also yearned for vengeance, what will happen to those who conspired against the King in the north? Will Arya ever get to kill those in her list? All those questions are valid for continuing the series and see it till the end. But nevertheless after Tywin died i felt like the series took what seemed like a perfect ending point to further expand the story through new plots in a slow burn fashion. Because why did Cercei arm a militia that supposedly has immunity to attack the crown when solid charges are brought up? And you want me to believe Cercei wasn’t aware of this just so she can take down her son’s wife Margaery because she made snarky remarks and belittled her ego as Queen Mother? Yes you may argue Margaery’s mother poisoned Cercei’s son and this is her revenge but Cercei does not know that lol.

My argument is that the show kept adding unnecessary plots and characters which serves no purpose to the original cause that pulled us into watching the show. And after learning that the show deviated from the books in season 5 and after, it makes so much sense and clearer of the obvious decaying quality displayed. After reaching season 6, the dialogue is just far from the qaulity and depth of season 1.

Winterhell and the Nonsense of the Rich

Hotpot’s incredible mishearing of Winterfell perfectly encapsulates how little the titular game of thrones and the petty political moves and power plays between the rich matter to the common people. Name your stone houses any gaudy thing you want and build monuments to your dead, to the common man they are just nothing.

Do you think Jon Snow knew about Janos Slynt’s betrayal of Ned Stark and deliberately baited him into disobeying orders so he could execute him?

Post image

It wouldn't have been that difficult for Jon to find out what happened in King's Landing. Stannis's men were at Castle Black around that time, so it's entirely possible that Stannis, Davos, or Melisandre told Jon about the events surrounding Ned Stark's execution, including Janos Slynt's role in the betrayal.

Alternatively, Slynt himself might have told other members of the Night's Watch about his days as commander of the City Watch, since he loved boasting about his former position. It's entirely plausible that Jon eventually learned about his role in Ned's betrayal through those conversations, especially since Slynt had a habit of bragging about his past.

Honestly, I’ve always felt that Jon might have deliberately baited Slynt into reacting with anger and defiance by ordering him to take command of the ruined Greyguard. Slynt took the bait, openly disobeyed Jon, and ended up getting executed. Exactly what Jon might have wanted..

If this theory is correct, it would be a pretty dark form of poetic justice. Jon would have used his authority as Lord Commander to get revenge for his father while making Slynt’s own insubordination the official reason for his execution. And honestly, I don’t think many people would blame Jon or think less of him for wanting to see that son of a bitch dead.

Red wedding Spoiler

• Upvotes

I watched the red wedding episode for the first time yesterday and I’m still in shock a day later. I absolutely cannot believe what I’ve just watched. I’ve been anticipating this episode since I’ve began and that was NOT what I was expecting. I truly didn’t think it could get more shocking than Ned’s death. Especially since Robb was my favorite character. I hope Arya goes on the meanest killing spree after this. This show is bonkers and that’s all I wanted to say.

If Catelyn wasn't going to allow Jon to attend the feast, why did she have him shaved as well? Is she dumb?

Theon AKA Alfie Allen Dosen't get enough praise for his role

Especially compared to actors like Peter Dinklage.....

Alfie crushed his (roles), which he had like 5 different roles to play

--

-Hostage obidient hostage starks

-Rebellious hubris son and trying to impress his dad

- Torture Victim and sliding into Severe PTSD

-Having Severe PTSD and being REEK

- Recovering from PTSD and going full Cycle back to being a good person

----

He had the most interesting character in the series and there aren't many scenes where you can fault his acting

Peter Dinklage had like 2 roles in the series, first dwarf lannister and then weird SIMP to daenrys

why does snowstorm ship exist?

SPOILERS AHEAD🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🚫❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️Why do people ship Daenaerys and John snow together? I'm not talking about the incest thing. But its not even a fun ship to do. He literally tricked and killed her and ruined the show, nothing exciting about that, not even a heated enemy to lover thing.

How do we think Dany wouldve reacted to Maester Aemon?

How would Dany's time in Westeros have changed if she was NOT the last Targarean? I think it mightve changed the way she reacted to thinks and i think he mightve provided her with very wise counsel, like he did for Jon and Sam. Could he have prevented her going mad? I wouldnt go that far, but i think she mightve lasted longer if shed had family in Westeros.

If you were in the position of Ser Davos here and the sailors found you and asked you which King? What would your answer be?

Knowing that wrong answer will lead to certain death.
