So my one confirmed drake has been chasing off one of my muscovies could it mean that the muscovy is a boy?

I dont have any examples of male muscovies so im not super sure this is the muscovy in question

For a while my drake seemed fine with them but recently he's starting chasing them away

I have 2 muscovies and they're both around the same size and have little face crests but im not 100% sure I was fairly sure I had 3 girls and 1 boy but now im less sure with this recent behavior

Injured or Sick Domestic Duck hurt duckling

I believe my duckling may have broke it's leg (hurt leg in image 1 image two is the other leg)
She (I believe it's a she) unfortunately jumped of me (I think she was the one who jumped off me? I thought it was the male that had jumped off me but I'm now now sure) and I didn't realise till I got them back to my room that she hurt her leg.
She isn't moving much and is not putting pressure on her leg at all. And as the image shows. It's very swollen.
I can't get to the vet till tomorrow as it's a hour away and I'm under 18 without my open drivers license and no car able to get there.

Sex: Female?
Age: about 2 weeks old
Breed: Pekin
Injury : possible broke leg or dislocated leg
Keept indoors as they are so young
Not spoken to vet.
Not tried anything as I don't want to make it worse.
She hasn't eaten or drunk yet but before the incident happened they had just had a massive big swim in the little pond. Which is when she last ate aswell

Wild Ducks So many ducks

We have a tiny pond on our property. I mean tiny. Its connected to the local wetlands so it always has fresh flowing water going in and out. Never stops, so Im sure that makes it more attractive to wildlife, but the first three years we lived here I was excited if we saw even 3 ducks the whole year. We had a pair of mallards and one lonely bachelor that visited a few times each spring. That was it.

The past month or two I am seeing 20, 30, maybe up to 40 at a time. Mallards and wood ducks. Every day. This is a tiiiiny pond. It takes about 30seconds to walk the length of it. At this point the pond is more duck than water.

So what shouldI do with my new found wealth of ducks?

(First photo is the duck I’m trying to identify)

My university has a duck pond, and the only ducks I’ve seen the past few years I’ve attended have been the shiny green headed ones (mallard?) fully white ones, and speckled brown ones.

Today I saw this duck. It has white on its underside that you see well when it perches upright in the water and flaps its wings. Its head is either Creme or white but it also has dark coloratuon around the eyes that extends down the head and back.

Whats odd is I haven’t seen any of the white ducks today. Maybe they migrated because of the cold?

ABQ, New Mexico, if that matters.

I’m not sure if these are native ducks or purchased — the story I was given is that the pond used to be a parking lot, but it regularly flooded and attracted ducks, and so the uni gave up and made it a duck pond. However, people’s pets end up here all the time (the pond was never intended to have fish or turtles and yet it has several) so it could be anything really.

Maybe it’s a juvenile of one of the brown ones? Since they are a bit smaller, but the head shape is totally different so I don’t know. One of the ducks did have babies last year.

Beginner's Question Buff/ Orpington Duck question

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi friends! Curious if anyone else has noticed that their Orpington/ Buff ducks like the cold?? I tuck them in around 8pm every night and let them out in their outside enclosure around 5-8am every morning. It’s been about 30-40 degrees at night and every time I open their gate to let them out, they come out feathers a blazin!
I know they are more cold tolerant, but I’m curious if they will be ok in the Ohio cold when it gets to be 10-20 degrees? I know they are rough creatures and they won’t need too much supplemental heat, but I’m also trying to plan for the -20 nights

Beginner's Question Ducks don't lay eggs

Hello everybody. We have gotten our first ducks on 12. August this year. They are three runner duck females and all about 1 year old.

One of them has laid two eggs in the first weeks we got them and since then we have not found any eggs. We were looking everywhere! They do have a bigger pond they spend most of their day on. Do ducks lay eggs in the water, and that's why we can't find them? Is it normal for them not to lay eggs when it gets colder? Is there anything I am missing, or do they need more time to acclimate to their new home?
