Public Service Announcement drake feathers and what they indicate
there seems to be a recurring misconception about determining whether a duck is male or female by looking for drake feathers.
Having a drake feather indicates that the duck IS a male, but not having a drake feather means nothing, as all ducklings, all females, young males, certain breeds of adult males AND males in eclipse molt do not have drake feathers. Even within some breeds, like Pekins, some males may have a drake feather, while others will not. Drake feathers do not appear until after the first molt.
The only ways that are 100% accurate are the quack test, finding laid eggs or examining for a penis. Even duck on top/duck on bottom is no way to tell, as females sometimes mount females and males sometimes mount males.
The quack test relies on listening to the voice of the duck. With mallard derived domestic ducks, females will have loud, clear quacks while males will have softer, voiceless, hoarse 'waaak's.
Neither the quack test nor the drake feather is applicable to muscovies. Females will coo and trill while males emit voiceless, breathy huffs and chuffs and do not get drake feathers.
Rarely, some females can develop a drake feather if they are dealing with hormonal issues.

Breed/Species/Sex ID is this a mallard hybrid? asking from england
sorry if the flair is wrong i saw this mallard in the wild but it looked different to the others. most importantly it had yellow eyes, was duller and had a darker and wider(?) beak. pic one is in comparison to other mallards and pic two is best shot of the eyes.

Meet the Flock This is my flock
One of my khaki and goose has angel wing or drooped wing (I got them as adults). My 5 khakis are very active and love to forage whereas my muscovy is very lazy. my goose loves to hang out with me. We have an amazing bond. She follows me around and only forage when i am around for some reason idk. Although she stays around me but she doesn't like to get touched. I have been trying to find a male gander for her but i couldn't find a single one not even a female.

Wild Ducks The Pacific Black ducks that stole my heart
I have this gorgeous Pacific black duck; her name is Lily, and she had loads of babies, and she is now hanging around in my backyard. She has inspired me to paint a tonne of ducks and ducklings this year and I also made card game.
I do not know about you but everytime they visit me my day is so joyous and it is like a surprise christmas present!
Pacific Black ducks in Australia are the most friendliest and trusting.

I know they last updated on youtube 2 months ago however, everybody is saying that its just a re-upload not a new video. Feed/Diet/Nutrition Duck feed question
So I was told that my ducks should now be off this and should have been switched to growers feed and I did. They were on this when we got them at two weeks and this is what was recommended to us by the feed store. Now I’m doing research and it says my 13 week drakes and ducks should now be back on this? (Please be nice this is my first time owing ducks and I am trying to do it right).
Question:
What feed should I be feeding my mixed flock of ducks?! 🦆
I have a flock of 13-week-old Buff Orpington ducks, both drakes and females, and I’m trying to find ONE feed I can start them on now and continue feeding throughout their adult lives, including when my females begin laying eggs.
I can’t put my entire flock on layer feed because the high calcium content isn’t suitable for my drakes long-term. My plan is to provide crushed oyster shells separately for my females once they start laying, so they can get the additional calcium they need.
I currently have Sharpe 18% MultiFowl Grower/Finisher Crumble, which contains 18% protein and 1% calcium. The bag says it’s suitable for ducks from 3–4 weeks onward, but I’m unsure whether it’s appropriate for lifelong feeding.
So my question is, WHAT FOOD SHOULD I BE FEEDING MY FLOCK?!
I want something nutritionally balanced that both my males and females can safely eat year-round, without constantly having to switch feeds.
I’d especially appreciate recommendations from Canadian duck owners and anyone who keeps a mixed flock of drakes and laying females! I would like to stick with the Sharpe brand because it’s more affordable. I shop at Hamilton bros

Meet the Flock She has me wrapped around her little webbed feet.
One night she has me cuddling her inside on the chair giving me kisses, the next she is out swimming in the creek on the farm.

Behavior Questions is there a way to stop ducks from eating my hair
As the title says.
Is there a way I can stop my little ducklings from eating my hair?.
I've tryed moving them away, lightly directing them away, tieing my hair up, moving my hair away and holding my hand up infornt of them like a little barricade and non of it is working. They always find a way to start noming on my hair. It's starting to hurt and get really annoying.
So is there any way to stop it? Or do I just need to deal with it

Worried Duck Mom What are these ducklings doing? Am I scaring them?
I’ve been raising Indian Runner ducks for ages now; but this is the first time I’m really trying to imprint on them. If the video doesn’t make it clear, I have them snuggled up in my hoodie, but I don’t want to stress them, I just want to bond w them.
These three are about 3 days old, and hatched naturally but we take them from the mother bc we have a few aggressive males (yall know how it is with drakes) and some geese that we don’t trust.

Wild Ducks Met a friendly duck while hiking on the island São Miguel
My wife and I were hiking on the island of São Miguel in the Azores when we met this nice young man at a secluded waterfall. He was very curious and followed us everywhere. (I think he just wanted to be fed.)

Bumblefoot Bumblefoot questions
I know there are a million posts and a million questions about bumblefoot... And here's another. Yes, I've read those posts.
I first noticed her limping about 10 days ago. Since then, i been soaking the foot in epsom salt baths for 10-15 minutes daily, spraying with vetericyn and wiping with chlorhexidine wipes. She doesn't have access to the pond with her sisters for now and is separated in her own, clean area with food and water for the time being.
Over the past 10 days of treatment, the swelling has increased. She isn't limping as much, but looks very uncomfortable with the swelling. She's still eating and drinking and seems to be in good spirits.
We are considering peeling off the scab this weekend and removing the core, but what I've noticed compared to nearly every other bumblefoot post I've seen online is that our scab is very small. I don't think we'll be able to fit the core through the hole unless I scrape it out with tweezers or make an incision to increase the size of the hole. Neither of those options sound great, so I figured I'd make a post to see what the least bad option might be.
We do have a local vet who takes exotics, but obviously we'd much rather not pay hundreds of dollars if there is a chance we could handle it ourselves. If it comes down to it though, we'll take her in.
Attached are two photos of her feet, and one photo of her being silly.

Found Abandoned Duckling(s) Reacued little duckling from a fox - best way to care for her?
We were driving home and saw a fox trying to catch this baby. She didn't seem to have a mama or brothers around.
Currently have her in a large box with some old towels and a tray of water.
We have chickens and live near a river. But I don't want to let her go free so little and aline. We want to adopt her.
What's best to feed her before we can get duck consontrate?
For tonight we will leave her to settle, but any tips to make her feel less lonely. She's calling for her mama.
I think she is a Piche (whistling duck)
Maybe a boy. We're calling her Slippy.

Good News/Recovery/Updates Lady Lemon and Knight Bundty nap sweetly, new home chosen
For those who have been following the tales of Lady Lemon and Knight Bundty through what has been a pretty horrible year, we have found what we think will be a nice home abroad while our hunt for a forever home continues.
Lady Lemon, of course, is far too busy with her beauty sleep to have regard for such trivial matters. Being as beautiful as she is, she needs a great deal of it… and for once, instead of standing guard, Knight Bundty tucked his bill in and caught a few zzzs as well.
