[Web] I turned two poker decks into Assedio, a medieval card duel about bluffing and castle sieges — free to play

Hi everyone! I'm the creator of Assedio — Italian for siege — a two-player card game that started with a simple idea: turn two ordinary poker decks into a battle for a castle.

I wanted something easy to put on a table, but with decisions that make you hesitate before committing a card. That idea has grown into a free browser beta, and I'd love to share it with people who enjoy tactical duels and tabletop games.

Play Assedio in English · Guided tutorial

Two decks. One castle to capture.

Each player begins with ten cards. Three become your castle's garrisons; the other seven form your front line. Your opponent's hidden cards turn that opening deployment into the first part of the bluff.

Do you keep a strong card behind a wall, or send it out to lead your attacks? Commit another troop as support, knowing that support will be consumed? Scout a hidden defender before risking your best fighter?

A few things give the siege its character:

  • Scouts reveal information. Finding out what is actually behind a threat can change your whole plan.
  • Archers thrive behind intact walls. A modest card in the right position can become a serious defensive problem.
  • Supports are a real sacrifice. They can turn a battle, but you spend that troop to do it.
  • Retreat costs a wall. Sometimes saving a fighter means opening a breach in your own castle.
  • Your last garrison matters. Lose it, and the castle falls.

The feeling I'm chasing is that tense pause before a reveal: you've committed troops, you've read what you can, and now you have to decide whether to trust your read. Luck supplies the hand; you decide what you're willing to risk with it.

How you can play

  • Online: private rooms with a friend, casual matchmaking, and ranked matches for verified accounts.
  • Solo: face the Castellan, the computer opponent.
  • At the same table: pass-and-play on one device, with the screen covered between players.
  • On desktop or mobile: play directly in your browser. Casual play and the tutorial need no account or download.

The game is available in English and Italian. There is a guided tutorial, a rules reference, and post-match analysis that evaluates your choices using only what you could know at the time.

I'd love to get some real duels going

A quick heads-up: online multiplayer works, but there isn't an active player base yet, so don't expect to find someone waiting in matchmaking. Bring a friend for a private match, or leave a comment so we can arrange a duel. You can also play against the Castellan right away while nobody else is online.

If you try it, I'd especially love to know:

  • Did the tutorial get you comfortably into your first game?
  • Did scouting, supporting and retreating give you interesting decisions?
  • Was there a moment when a card or rule felt too powerful, unclear or frustrating?

If you'd like to challenge me, leave a comment. I'd love to play against people who approach the game differently and see what they discover.

Thanks for taking a look at something I've been excited to bring to life.
