Community Support & Resources Power chair accessible ride sharing in the Dayton/Xenia area

• Upvotes

I am unfamiliar with local resources for people with mobility aids, but I did just give someone who uses a power chair a ride home and witness what it can be like to find a ride with one. Does Uber or Lyft or whoever have an option for accessible rides, and if so, is it available in the Dayton area?

(I was able to direct this person to apply with Greene CATS to get free rides with disability, so they do have that option, but I know what it's like to be disabled and want that kind of autonomy.)

Advice & Recommendations Speedway Tap to Pay not working for anyone else?

Has anyone else noticed this? Like the third speedway I’ve been to, tap simply won’t work at the pump. Not sure if it’s my phone acting up or what, but N Fairfield, Fairfield-Yellow Springs, and I think one of them on Dorothy have given me issues.

DAYTON — The Dayton Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a teenager, and they’re now asking for the public’s help.

The crash happened near the intersection of Lori Sue and Sundale Avenues around 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19.

Police said a 14-year-old boy was on an electric dirt bike when he was hit by a black Cadillac Escalade that had failed to yield.

The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

The driver of the SUV did not stay on scene, as required by law.

Police are asking anyone who may have information about the crash or the driver of the SUV to contact Detective Rizer at (937) 333-1142, or Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at (937) 222-7867 (STOP) or MiamiValleyCrimeStoppers.com.

Community Support & Resources Does anyone actually believe the Toledo chemical leak isn't wafting to Dayton?

EDIT: Okay, y'all are helping, thank you.

Air quality seems terrible today even though reports are saying the chemical is only spreading out 3 miles. Idk if I believe that. I took a walk and my nostrils and eyes are stinging now.

Local News McClain High School Needs OHIO to Help us Vote

Post image
0 Upvotes

We’re from Greenfield, Ohio, a small village of fewer than 5,000 people, and something pretty incredible is happening here.

Our high school,Greenfield McClain, is competing nationally in T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G
Lights contest for a chance to win $1 MILLION toward our football facilities.

Our entire community has rallied around this opportunity. Students, families, teachers, alumni, local
businesses, and even former professional athletes have joined in.

But we’re competing against schools across the country, and we need support beyond our little town.

If you’d like to help a small Ohio school compete on the national stage, we’d be grateful for your vote
or for sharing our story.

Local News Is it hazy outside? There’s not a cloud in the sky, but it seems a little hazy. I checked the wildfire smoke map and didn’t see anything so I’m wondering what’s making it like this.

Air quality says 55 which is the bottom of the moderate tier.

UPDATE!!!!

ADDRESS IS WRONG ON THEIR FLYER - SHOULD BE 2250 E STROOP RD, NOT W STROOP!

Y'all worked so well with us when Trump came to early this month, I thought I should post this your way when someone posted it on our Facebook.

Any takers? Can anyone organize and let them know Ohio is done with the party of abusers?

Especially after the Ohio Republican Party is running with Vivek's disgusting Amy Acton smear campaign!

We can't come down for this, we have too much going on in NE Ohio.

Keep it legal, keep it safe!

Good luck!

Jobs & Employment MMI graduate looking for motorcycle mechanic job

Hello all!

My fiancé is currently looking for motorcycle mechanic jobs in the Dayton area but is really having some bad luck with just searching online.

About him: Graduated from MMI with certifications from Harley, Yamaha, Kawasaki (and one more I’m forgetting, but I know it’s not BMW since he declined having to pay an extra 50k and another two years of schooling to get that certificate)

He also has extensive experience in the food industry as BOH line cook, chef, kitchen manager and also construction work/epoxy flooring.

We are expecting a baby in January and could really use a second income, (as well as something that will cover bills while I take a month to recover from childbirth).

From a desperate mamma to be, please consider letting me know if you or someone you know has a job opening that would be a good fit! He has applied for so many jobs and is tired of either not hearing back or getting the “this position is now filled” message.

We currently are looking for closer to Miamisburg if possible, but not opposed to other areas in and around Dayton.

Advice & Recommendations Can someone explain to me why all of a sudden salons break out pin straight hair and textured hair?

And then charge 1.75-2 times the “non textured hair”. Everyone i know has some type of texture to their hair, I hardly know anyone that has pin straight fine hair.

When I used to go to a pretty well known salon chain in Dayton, shape and number, they did not segregate and then charge you differently based on your “hair texture”. Granted, this was years ago.

I’ve been Trying to find another salon and same thing. Oh you have wavy hair? That will fall under our textured hair pricing.

Is this a new phenomenon in Dayton? My previous city I went to a higher end salon where I got a cut and style for around 80 and they did not up charge on hair type. Here? It seems all the rage.

Why am I expected to pay $150 for a haircut and blow dry because I have a slight wave in my hair (BEFORE TIP)?

Are there any recommendations for salons ( please not a great clips) that can do a cut and blow dry for around $80?

He seemed really sweet and was standing literally in the road. I tried to coax him to me but he eventually ran off into the woods and was gone when I came back a couple times later. He wasn’t emaciated but his behavior was giving stray. Does anyone recognize him? Possibly could belong to the house at 3000 Soldiers Home Rd cuz this was at the end of their driveway or 3100 but I wasn’t feeling confident enough to go up their property

Food & Dining Where to watch Champions League games

Wanting to watch the games tomorrow with some friends specifically Arsenal and Bayern, anyone know if there’s good soccer bars that have shown UCL games this season?

The full game slate is on Paramount Plus so would be super cool to hear of any spots have that and would have multiple games on!

Advice & Recommendations Best nail salons in Dayton Metro area?

Specifically I’m looking for a salon that does really interesting and creative designs, especially on short nails since I cannot have long nails. I’m also looking for salons that work with hard gel or do Russian manicures.

This is OH House district 36

There is like a tiny 1 block strip to cut out Oakwood and include Riverside/Moraine. Gerrymandering (on both sides blah blah) is just so blatant nowadays. I thought these "bipartisan" map commitees were supposed to stop these kinds of things.

Housing & Real Estate ISO: private landlord recommendations

Wondering if there are any dog friendly, private landlords in the area with listings available now.

Credit is mostly the issue for us, but we spend about $3k+ on hotels every month and are having a hard time finding something stable. hoping for something under $1k if possible.

My partner travels for work, so the area of town is not of importance.

Any leads help, thank you

Community Support & Resources Graffiti artist welcomed. Come practice.

Hello, we have a bridge with two cement abutments on each side. It appears someone was trying to "tag" 1 side with the standard I ❤️ such and such but maybe got scared off and never finished? Then it looks like said such and such saw this and X'd it out?. Either way it looks like crap. That being said we love graffiti art if its cool and or at least legible. Hell I will settle for finished. Any graffiti artists want a "free" canvass "cement wall" to practice their craft on dm me. We are south of town and p.s. you would have to stand in a creek bed.

Hit me up.

Meetups & Social Anyone want to play tennis with a beginner 🎾🎾?

I’m 29m, just got back into tennis. Played in high school. I can serve and return. I’m looking mainly to volley back and forth currently bc I’m not game ready. Working on directing my shots/top spin. I live in Greenville but I am willing to drive to any surrounding areas, within reason. Age and skill doesn’t matter to me, I’d just like someone/people to hit with that will also have fun and enjoy the game. I’d be open to hitting twice a week plus weekends. I’m a Y member and not looking to join a tennis club since I’m already in a running club.
Thanks and have a blessed day.
