Dayton Politics For anyone in Kettering - info on proposed charter amendments

I was looking up my sample ballot preparing to vote soon and noticed there will be some city charter amendments to vote on for anyone in Kettering. I didn’t follow some of the language on the ballot (which I think is a problem generally with these types of things) so I did some searching. For anyone interested, this shows the actual changes to the sections themselves. IMO it’s nothing earth shattering, though I imagine some people might have stronger feelings about Issue 19 than the others.

A bit bummed by this. I liked them where they were. The biggest problem is they weren't open on good times for me to have a weekend visit. Oh well. At least they will still be nearby. Just not as easy of a walk.

Advice & Recommendations Questions About Sinclair’s ADN Nursing Program and Waitlist

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m currently a pre-nursing student at Sinclair and recently qualified for the nursing waitlist. I have a few questions for current or former nursing students.
● How long did you wait before getting accepted into the ADN program? Is the estimated 3–5 semester wait accurate?
● What are the typical class and clinical hours once you start the nursing program? Are classes usually in the morning or afternoon?
● Is it possible to work part-time while attending nursing school?
How difficult is the program, and how much time do you usually spend studying outside of class?

Community Support & Resources Doctor needed- will Kettering still see me?

I have an overdue balance from Kettering health with collections. Will they still see me for a follow up on an emergency room visit? My ER visit was with premier, but I have no insurance and it's been impossible to find someone to do a follow up as a new patient, without insurance. Or does anyone have other doctor recs? Premier recommended five rivers, but they have no openings. I just really need to be seen asap

Meetups & Social New here… need to meet people! (Miamisburg)

Hey everyone! I recently relocated from Cleveland to Miamisburg for work and am looking to get out, explore the area, and meet some new people.
I’m interested in finding good local spots to hang out, grab a beer or a bite to eat, catch a game, or just socialize and make some friends. I’m open to anything from breweries and sports bars to trivia nights, rec leagues, and other social activities.
I’m still getting familiar with the Dayton area, so I’d appreciate any recommendations for places to check out or groups worth joining. Always happy to meet some good people along the way!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Local News Morning commutes via I-75 South are cursed

This post is nothing substantial aside from sharing a minor frustration around I-75S. I don’t even use the highway to get to work; I commute on backgrounds from Clayton/Englewood to Dayton. However, the backroads have been extremely congested recently due to multiple accidents occurring on I-75S, particularly around Wagner Ford Rd. There’s at least one accident causing multi lane closures or a full shutdown per week.

Are morning drivers just that terrible? Is Wagner Ford cursed? I’m exhausted. I lived in a city with reliable, fast public transit and I so desperately wish Dayton had good public transit too.

Dayton Appreciation Ghost stories about 10 Wilmington Place?

Feeling hellish this morning as leaves were blowing across the street during my commute on this dark October morning. I pass 10 Wilmington Place every day to go to work. I know it used to be the Southern Ohio Lunatic Asylum. Anyone have any ghost stories about that place? Or generally any ghoulish and bone-chilling haunting stories in Dayton?

Advice & Recommendations Is anyone else unable to pick up Fox 22.2 using an over the air antenna anymore?

For about the last week or so, I have been unable to get FOX 22.2 on my TVs using an antenna. Same thing as happening on all of the TVs in my house with different antennas.

I'm able to get all of the other local channels without any issues.

Is this just me or is anyone else having this issue?

UPDATE: my tv channels usually load within 5 to 10 seconds after selecting a channel, and I had previously let 22.2 sit for a minute or two and it never loaded, so I assumed it wasn't working at all.

While I was typing this post, I let it sit for about seven minutes, and it finally started playing. So apparently I am able to get it, but it takes a very long time for the channel to play.

Advice & Recommendations Sam's Club vs CostCo? What's everyone's preference?

Hi! I usually go to Sam's Club, but lately their meat has not been it! Whether it's not been sealed properly or gone bad after a day of it being in the fridge, I'm not sure I can keep shopping there. I was looking into CostCo

We'd also be willing to get our meat from a butcher, but we only buy enough for like 2 weeks at a time and the bundles I've seen looking around don't seem worth it. We have a small deep freezer and can only fill maybe half with meat

Anyone also have any suggestions for a butcher and prices from there? We only get chicken and beef

Edit: Thank you for all the responses! We will be switching to CostCo on our next grocery haul. We'll look around the meat markets today and only get a couple of non food items from Sam's for now. Kroger for everything else.

And everyone who brought up how Walmart treats their workers, thank you especially. I try to avoid Walmart as much as I can and that did influence my decision a lot. Humanity is very important to me. We're all just trying to exist as best we can, I don't like when people are being taken advantage of.

Advice & Recommendations What Makes Dayton Worth the Extra $130K Compared to Miami Oxford?

Hey everyone! I’ve posted a few times asking about Miami Oxford vs. Dayton, as I’m currently considering transferring to UD.

Almost everyone I’ve talked to who attends Dayton absolutely loves it. The school has a 91% freshman retention rate, a strong sense of community, and an atmosphere that genuinely appeals to me.

However, there’s one thing I’m struggling to understand.

From what I’ve researched, Miami seems to have a stronger academic reputation in several fields I’m considering, yet Dayton costs significantly more.

According to the universities’ published 2026–27 costs (before financial aid):

Dayton: $69,700/year (tuition, housing, food)
Miami Oxford: $36,558/year (in-state tuition, housing, food)

That’s approximately $132,500 more over four years at sticker price.

Obviously, scholarships and financial aid can change those numbers dramatically, but I’m curious: What makes Dayton worth that difference?

Is it the alumni connections, professors, friendships, campus culture, or overall college experience?

I’m a philosophy major potentially interested in law school, so academics and the value of my degree matter to me. However, I also want to enjoy college and make lifelong friendships.

I’m genuinely interested in Dayton, not trying to criticize it. I’m just wondering what makes so many students choose it over a potentially more affordable university.

For those attending Dayton, what made you choose it, how much did financial aid reduce your costs, and do you feel it was worth the money?

I’d especially love to hear from anyone who considered Miami Oxford before choosing Dayton!

Housing & Real Estate Hi all, looking for a private landlord.

Hi! Im looking for a private landlord that may be able to help me find somewhere to live.
I am leaving a toxic situation, currently only working 30 hours a week.
I am searching for full time employment, I have an interview 10/30.
I originally had hopes I’d be able to wait it out until I found full time work but unfortunately the situation is just getting worse (nearly physical), and I need somewhere to live with my child ASAP.
No family, my mom died in 2023 so I truly am all alone.
I have a year worth of paychecks.
I have a great credit score.
I am a very clean and responsible individual.

Please any tips or advice would be terrific.

Community Support & Resources Looking for an ASL Interpreter for Open Forum Event 11/7

Hi ya'll!

My name is Sabrina Ray, I am the founder of TransHearts a community organization based out of Dayton focused on creating support groups and educational workshop events for Transgender, and Gender Diverse individuals in the Miami Valley.

I am reaching out today, as we are collaborating with fellow Dayton trans organizations Gatlyn Dame Group, Transcollective937 on a community open forum event for Saturday November 7th from 12-2pm at the Dayton Metro Library - Main Branch in The Center for Community Impact & Innovation.

But we are looking for a ASL Interpreter for this event, as this entire event is about opening up accessibility for under-represented identities and intersectionality in the trans and gender diverse community, who feel their voices aren't able to be heard by the greater Trans community through organizations themselves, or marketing of community events and such.

If anyone knows anyone who could help with this I'd be forever grateful!

Housing & Real Estate Normal experience trying to rent a townhouse?

My husband and I are having to move quickly due to issues with the people we live with (bad divorce). We were looking at a townhouse from KEO rental. They originally told us it would be available this weekend to view and rent. We went ahead and applied got accepted and put the holding fee down.

A couple days ago they then told us it would actually be next Friday, which was frustrating. Now they are saying it will be the 31st. We have asked multiple times for a lease and still haven’t seen one. We drove by the place and it has no construction being done to it and seems clean (their excuse for the delay).

The person we call can answer basically no questions all she does is go to the website and tell us what it says (which is publicly accessible), then says she will contact the property manager. After a long wait she will text us some answers to the questions, often causing more questions which we text back and never receive a response have to call again and cycle continues. We need to be done moving by the first week in November and we are worried that this just isn’t working. Looking for advice, whether this is normal? What we can do? We still haven’t seen the unit technically, they said it’s because it has maintenance to be done but when we went by there are no tools or anything showing anything preventing us from seeing it.
