Question ❔ Looking for honest opinions on a potential 1999 CR-V purchase
I've been looking for a vehicle that's practical, reliable, and capable of handling road trips, camping, and daily driving, and I came across a 1999 Honda CR-V EX AWD with about 110k miles for around $10,000.
What I like about it:
- Clean title
- Clean look (I am set on the 99' in terms of aesthetic)
- Approximately 110k miles
- CarFax shows 2 owners and only 1 reported accident early in the vehicle's life
- No rust from what I've been told and what I've been able to see
- Interior and exterior are exceptionally clean for its age
- Maintenance history appears consistent on the CarFax
- Dealer states it has gone through a mechanical inspection
- New tires
- AWD
- Picnic table
- Fold-flat seats
- Cruise control, A/C, power windows, etc.
My concerns:
- It's still a 27-year-old vehicle, regardless of mileage
- I'm more concerned about age-related wear than the odometer reading
- Potential issues with suspension components, distributor, alternator, starter, seals, hoses, motor mounts, radiator, and other original parts
- The asking price is around $10k, which seems high, although finding a rust-free, low-mileage first gen isn't easy
My plans for the vehicle:
- Daily driver
- Camping and hiking trips
- Occasional 500+ mile road trips
- Sleeping in the back during some trips
- Keeping it for the long haul and maintaining it properly
- Ideally driving it well past 200k miles
I'm planning on getting a pre-purchase inspection before making a decision.
For those with experience owning a first-gen CR-V:
- If the inspection checks out, would you trust it on long road trips?
- Is $10k reasonable for a rust-free example with this mileage?
- What age-related repairs would you expect even if it's been well maintained?
- Would you buy it at this price?
I've attached photos. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to balance the fact that I love these first-gen CR-Vs with making a smart purchase decision.
