r/Cigar Town Hall: Share Your Ideas

At your request, we've opened a suggestion thread for the sub.

When we took over this sub was dead and redirected to another cigar sub.

Over the last 2 years we've gone from 6k members to 28k.

There's clearly a desire for a cigar sub with less moderation and r/cigar is it.

With that said, it likely makes sense to entertain your ideas for the sub, after all, our goal is to have a sub that has 'pseudo-democracy.'

Anything from:

  • New rules (more rules means more moderation which contradicts the purposes of the sub, but quality suggestions will be considered)
  • Flairs
  • Reoccurring threads
  • Fill in the blank

Duplicate ideas will be removed to keep the thread clean, upvote if you agree, downvote if you don't. Build on the idea by replying if applicable.

Some of our comments from the original thread linked above are below

  • In general, r/cigar lets the community decide what it wants to see based on upvoting and downvoting.
  • It's the entire point of the sub—to have pseudo-democracy.
  • Obviously, we have to abide by Reddit's rules.
  • We're not going to allow egregious things like racism, sexism, gratuitous nudity, or someone being a complete wanker from dusk till dawn.
  • Outside of that, we want the community to decide what it wants to see by upvoting quality content to the top of the feed and downvoting low effort and irrelevant things to the bottom of the feed.

We see a lot of feedback about AI, but removing AI in its entity isn't something r/cigar wants to do at this time, but low effort posts that are 100% AI (image and text or image/text only) are almost always removed when reported.

Below this we'll catalog your ideas that were added.

  • GIF and photo comments have been added
  • Flairs added (on going)

Davidoff Disappointment

I travel internationally 7 to 8 times a year and regularly purchase my Davidoffs at duty-free shops. On one of my recent trips, I bought a multipack of Robusto tubos. I put them aside. The various tubes got mixed up. Then one day, I took two randoms and one of the tubes didn't have a cigar in it. It felt weighty as if it did. Inside was a marketing brochure.

To make matters worse, I had taken two of them with me to smoke with a client, and one turned out to be a complete dud.

I contacted Davidoff in Florida, and a representative expressed genuine concern, asking for my details and a photo if possible. I provided everything requested a month ago. Two weeks later, I followed up with a voicemail and was informed by the receptionist that the person handling my case is a manager.

Out of an abundance of fairness, I even wondered if that particular pack might have been a promotional item designed to hold marketing collateral rather than a cigar. If that is the case, that is completely fine—I simply wish someone would let me know.

The greatest disappointment is the lack of follow up after a convincing telephone act about how serious the matter was to them and they would get back.

Video attached.

As for my favorite smokes, I like the Davidoffs and realize they are well made, but not necessarily the best for the price. Still, the tubos are great for travelling. Sadly, the AVO (the sister brand of Davidoff) XO tubos are very difficult to find.

Oliva series V

Oliva series V Maduro

Oliva series V Melanio

Oliva series V Melanio Maduro

All four cigars share the series V name but these are all very distinct cigars with different flavors.

Had to smoke this one after the fiasco of Oliva MB3.

The ashes are perfect color, the smoke texture is rich and full, and the flavors is how I like it.

Love the Retrohale. The punch cut has concentrated all experiences.

A rare triple header

Been really enjoying cigars again lately and found myself in a rare triple header situation today. Started off with a banger Oliva Melanio No. 4, followed by another very pleasant Oliva O Toro, and ending the night with a delicious Padron 1926 No. 6 Maduro. Although I’ll admit my tastebuds are a little shot for the third cigar even though I spaced them out by a few hours. The Olivas really stood out today especially the Melanio. Overall a great day of enjoying cigars.

Tried the Perdomo 10th Anniversary Maduro for the first time while my friend had the 10th Anniversary Champagne. We paired them with my homemade pumpkin spice mead.

To top it off, my new Boston Scally cap got delivered today—anyone else love scally caps? I actually got into them from watching cigar videos.

Wyoming cigar fest

We are working our way through the cigar festival of Wyoming. Tonight was these two:

- Kristoff 20th anniversary (it tasted like a fine leather coat and I enjoyed it extremely much).

- La Aroma Cuba (it tasted of oak and my friend enjoyed it very much)

These were two delicious cigars and we would absolutely get them again!

My drive home stick after a long 24 hours. Made it all the way(about an hour and ten minutes). Nice draw, medium body. Only had to touch up twice. Neither pic taken while moving.
