r/Cigar Town Hall: Share Your Ideas

At your request, we've opened a suggestion thread for the sub.

When we took over this sub was dead and redirected to another cigar sub.

Over the last 2 years we've gone from 6k members to 28k.

There's clearly a desire for a cigar sub with less moderation and r/cigar is it.

With that said, it likely makes sense to entertain your ideas for the sub, after all, our goal is to have a sub that has 'pseudo-democracy.'

Anything from:

  • New rules (more rules means more moderation which contradicts the purposes of the sub, but quality suggestions will be considered)
  • Flairs
  • Reoccurring threads
  • Fill in the blank

Duplicate ideas will be removed to keep the thread clean, upvote if you agree, downvote if you don't. Build on the idea by replying if applicable.

Some of our comments from the original thread linked above are below

  • In general, r/cigar lets the community decide what it wants to see based on upvoting and downvoting.
  • It's the entire point of the sub—to have pseudo-democracy.
  • Obviously, we have to abide by Reddit's rules.
  • We're not going to allow egregious things like racism, sexism, gratuitous nudity, or someone being a complete wanker from dusk till dawn.
  • Outside of that, we want the community to decide what it wants to see by upvoting quality content to the top of the feed and downvoting low effort and irrelevant things to the bottom of the feed.

We see a lot of feedback about AI, but removing AI in its entity isn't something r/cigar wants to do at this time, but low effort posts that are 100% AI (image and text or image/text only) are almost always removed when reported.

Below this we'll catalog your ideas that were added.

  • GIF and photo comments have been added
  • Flairs added (on going)

Got lucky at a local brick and mortar. A whole box of forbidden kiss and 3 Dubai Exclusives. They absorbed a closing store and these were part of the inventory.

Had a couple of Schmeke electric humidors. Wanted to consolidate everything so I finally got my Raching C230A. Very happy so far. Slight fluctuations in rh and temp from top to bottom but nothing major.

Foundation The Wise Man Maduro Toro

Not bad. There were moments of greatness but sometimes it felt flat. Very nice baking spices throughout. Leather as well. Some notes of cream and nuts at times, also light chocolate notes. Overall pretty good but I think I'd either go cheaper and get a charter oak or spend up a little on a Tabernacle or Olmec if I'm getting a foundation. I'll look forward to trying this one again some time though.

One caveat, I think the place i got this from may have stored them in a less than perfect state. The smokes i got in the same order have all been a little flat. I think they may have been under humidified. I did keep them in a 67 degree 65 rh humidor for two months before smoking though. Not sure if it's a real issue or one I'm dreaming up but i do wonder. Maybe it's going to take longer than 2 months to have them back to life. I have a few more to try and I'm hoping they are better.

Metapa - changed to Aksum a few years ago. I like the new band better anyway.

This thing has been hanging around for 3 years. Noticed the crack today. Time to burn it! So good it’s crazy. Happy Friday folks!

Recent CigarPage sampler pack pickup.

Very much a baseline good cigar but nothing groundbreaking. Happy to have tried it.

What are your thoughts?

1 hr 39 min total smoke time.

Final observations
Flavor: Consistently mild, with little development.
Aroma: Enjoyable tobacco barn character throughout.
Mouthfeel: Light, smooth smoke.
Draw: Good after progressively enlarging the conservative initial cut.
Construction: One wrapper crack and three small burn touch-ups, all along the affected side.
Final third: Slight bitterness with frequent puffs, resolved by slowing down.
Overall enjoyment: Pleasant, uncomplicated, but not especially memorable.
Repurchase verdict: Would happily smoke another from a sampler of if given one, but no interest in purchasing a dedicated five-pack or box.

I finally tried it

Finally went and got the Olmec Maduro and I have got to say I'm glad I did. What a wonderful experience between the flavors and how smooth this was to smoke. Everything blended beautifully with the flavors like a chef that meticulously pieces together a dish to harmonize perfectly. Every flavor complimented each other and rather than it feel like they were fighting each other to have a break through, it was more like they came together knowing that each of them was needed to create a wonderful blend. I would definitely recommend this cigar even at full msrp. I think it's absolutely worth the price. I would provide this as my recommendation over the Liga Priva No. 9 for cigars at this price point.

Delete if not allowed. I’m in the Fort Hood, Texas area. I don’t want these. They take up way too much space. Figured I’d post here if anyone wants them before they go on Marketplace.
