I’d like to introduce Olympiad Chess, a true team based multiplayer chess variant I’ve been developing for the past year and a half. It supports up to 4v4 (8 players max) in a single unified match, designed around the idea of possibly evolving competitive team chess into a cooperative esports entry!
THE CONCEPT
Think of a standard FIDE Chess Olympiad match: two teams of four sitting at a long desk with four boards laid out side by side.
Now, imagine the middle ranks (4&5) becomes a single, universally shared corridor connecting all four boards while existing on all boards at the same time (I call it the Nexus).
Just like that, four isolated 1v1 games become one unified, seamless team match:
- Any player can step their pieces into ranks 4 or 5 and cross over into a completely different board.
- Teammates coordinate their moves simultaneously (all White players move together, then all Black players move so the turns are fast; won't make you wait ages for your turn to come).
- Standard piece movements and classical rules stay 100% intact. It's just chess: No RNG, no cards, and no stats or buffs.
FREE DEMO & RULEBOOK AVAILABLE
My plan is to release Olympiad Chess on Steam in maybe two or three weeks since the build is essentially finished and currently in testing. But I would appreciate if you could check out the links below, wishlist 🫣!, or simply try out the Demo!
- Free Demo: [DemoApp] (The download size is well under 1.0 GB; available on Win, Lin, and MacOS)
- Steam Store Page: [SteamPage]
- Rulebook I wrote: [SteamCommunity]
Also, I'm very much open to any constructive criticism or suggestions before release!
