Chess Question What elo do you classify as beginner, intermediate, expert etc
Online and OTB. I am just curious. My husband plays chess and he was explaining how difficult it is to become intermediate in chess, and now I’m intrigued when someone is no longer classified as a beginner.

Chess Improvement Just hit 1200 rating and hit a wall. Any tips to reach 1500?
I started playing chess back in April and managed to hit a peak rating of 1206. Lately, I've been playing unrated games against players around this level to practice without stressing over rating points, but honestly, I feel like I'm playing terrible chess right now.
I feel stuck at a plateau and want to make a real push toward 1500. For those who've made that jump, what practical tips or routines actually helped you get there? Should I focus more on concrete tactics, endgame principles, or reviewing my own games?
Any advice or study recommendations would be awesome. Thanks!

Achievement I haven't played chess in a bit and just did this.
chess.comBest thing is I didn't even see what I did until the mate was clear.
My goal for chess is to be able to understand and play some fun games. Looks like I'm on track to do that.
I am now into the land of 700.
I played black.

Chess Question Is the Italian game opening and the French defence a setup based openings and defence?
I came across a video of levy explaining the differences between a setup and theory based opening. I like the concept of set up based openings since you can always play that opening no matter what the opponent plays in response. I was wondering if the Italian game opening is a set up based opening and also if the french defence is a setup based?

Chess Improvement From Adult beginner (300) to 2000 rapid Elo in 2 years
technically 2 years 3 months 😅 but I went from complete adult beginner to 2000 rapid elo (hopefully soon higher) in that amount of time. I’m learning chess completely different to most people. I don’t drill tactics, I don’t analyse my games and I haven’t really learnt opening theory yet. I focus on positional chess. Chess username: Princerichi
feel free to ask any questions! or if u wanna know more tiktok: Chessrichi
I’d love giving any tips to u guys if ur plateauing or want to know how to improve quickly.

LOL The 2013 World Championship press conference: Anand openly revealed his seconds, while Carlsen treated his seconds like a state secret. A fascinating display of pre-match psychological warfare.

Miscellaneous genuine question to people who cheat
genuine question, i’m not gonna hate on you or criticize you. What do you get out of it? What compels you to do it? Is it because you care about your ELO being high? Or because you just don’t want to loose? Is it satisfying? To me, cheating would not be satisfying, so i really want to understand what the appeal is.

Chess Discussion I ran 10 top players and streamers through a style analyzer (Chess.com blitz): Magnus is a Strategist, Gukesh an Assassin, Giri a Guardian
I've been building a tool that runs your Chess.com or Lichess games through Stockfish and sorts your style into one of eight fantasy-style classes, compared with players at your own rating: aggression, initiative, complexity, dynamism and risk.
I ran the last 100 Chess.com blitz games of 10 well-known players. Each name links to their card:
Strategist (takes the initiative without ever exposing himself): Magnus Carlsen
Assassin (straight at the king, and asks the questions): Gukesh
Predator (goes for the king with pieces on): GothamChess
Grinder (keeps the pieces on, never takes risks): Hikaru
Guardian (defends, never overextends): Wesley So, Anish Giri
Firestarter (risky and dynamic): Witty Alien, Anna Cramling
Technician (simplifies, rock solid): Nihal Sarin
Counterpuncher (lets you come, then strikes): Alexandra Botez
Which ones feel right to you, and which surprised you?

Puzzle/Tactic I wish the puzzles didn't end so soon
I figured out the puzzle!! But I don't know where to go from here. Some puzzles keep going until I actually figure out checkmate and some stop short like this because I assume it's 'obvious' that checkmate is imminent. But this happens often

MEGA BLUNDER Appealing fair play ban
I’ve had my account for a few years and just recently got back into playing on it, with the majority of my games being against friends.
Yesterday my friend showed me stockfish and told me it was fine to test it against him for a game and so I did exactly that. I then played a second game using it against him but gave up halfway because the gimmick started getting boring. And despite blundering my queen, the advantage at the start did help, so I won both games.
Fast forward to today and I’ve now learned that using an engine for 1 game is in fact not fine and I got a fairplay ban. They’ve given me the option to appeal it and ask if I admit to cheating and still want to appeal or if it’s a false ban. I’d like to just be honest with the appeal and get my account back since I’ve obviously learned my lesson but I’m wondering if that’ll just get me auto rejected. I feel bad lying but I’d also like my account back. Or is it better to just create a new account and accept my fate?
