To all of my opponents who thought I was playing beyond my rating. Or that I should not have improved that quickly. It's definitely not because I am above average. It's because Danya broke the curve and was an excellent teacher. Danya is responsible for all of my Jobava London lines.
I'm thankful.

I keep facing this opening so often. And I wonder what opening that is and why I keep facing it so often. Anyone know?

Considering I can easily play against cpu, or humans, or solve infinite puzzles, in lichess, how easier is it to learn, compared to 20-30+ years ago?
Also what do you think of the puzzles themselves? I think it's brilliant how they're recycled from real games, and they're basically infinite. And the problems themselves are likely a very effective way of practicing.
How many puzzles do you do daily/monthly?

Wouldn’t moving the king make me unable to castle? I feel like being able to have my rook out and my king properly protected is more valuable than having my knight closer to the center of the board. No?

Elo in the 700s. Haven’t had one of these at any level!

Backstory: I am learning how to play chess on chess.com app. I frequently encounter what I think are mistakes but have me questioning my sanity!
This apparently is checkmate, but how? The black king can move to h8, and can evade the check by using the black rook to block the bishop or take the white rook if it moved to g8. I’m a noob so probably missing something just having a hard time finding what it is if anyone could shed some light?
Edit: for clarity this isn’t a game this a puzzle where I need to make one move to create a check mate. This is the only move where it will deem the puzzle solved (pic two)

Been playing on chess.com for about 6 months and told myself I’d get into literature once I reached 1000 elo occasionally watching chess content on YouTube. Well I reached 1000 elo and awhile back I looked at reviews and randomly ordered these two books.

I’ve been recently playing a lot of chess but have hit a hard wall at 800 elo. My main issue is obviously hanging pieces but I’m constantly reminding myself of what’s being threatened and “if I go here then there” but I still cannot seem to remember where everything is and always end up getting overwhelmed in an endgame and losing. I review my games for mistakes but it doesn’t seem to help me. Is there something I’m missing?

I can't figure out how to force a draw as king rook vs king rook. I just lost on time even though its a theoretical draw. How do you prevent this??

346 vs 352 (me).

On mobile, both of our times show up as 0 seconds. Flipping my phone horizontally shows that I actually had 30 milliseconds left, which is how I won.
Has anyone gotten lower time?

So I am around 1100 on rapid and one of my weaknesses is board blindness, there are lots of games where I probably had the better position but I just lost those games due to tunnel vision, so I want to know how to deal with it. Cause if I spend more time per move there is a high chance that I will lose on time cause I am already pretty slow in the game.

I am 1200 on chess.com and 1400 9. Lichess.
Here is what is observed while playing on both platforms.
Chess.com players are more willing to throw games after hanging a piece.
Lichess players have a better understanding of fundamentals. They develop pieces, improve their position then launch attacks.
I win games on chess.com mostly by waiting for opponents to make a mistake. On lichess I have to grind them down in the endgame.
What is your experience?

I'm the worst when it comes to checkmates, it's so difficult for me to do them. I could be winning with 10 extra pieces throughout the game, and then lose 90% of them in the end because I don't know how to deliver checkmates. I don't know if the problem is that I don't see them easily, or that I don't know how to do them. I need advice because I almost always get the game to stalemate and I could win more often.

Basically what the title says. I made my account back in 2022 but I have only started playing seriously around July (during the summer holidays). Finally hit 700 rating and I am rather proud of it. I know it is not a lot, but it is honest work :)
Please let me know what you think and your experience climbing up the ratings!
And fyi I play 10minute rapid games, so no blitz until I get better.

I am a 1500-1600 player on lichess ,and begin to have some tactical calculation /positional understand and some play style (of course still blunders and far away from good players) . But one of my main problem is I cannot sustain and focus my mind to enable calculation all time . Sometimes it is too tired/lazy to do calculation especially when spare time in work/after a meal and then play everything like bullet . Which result in unstable behavior (I win often due to slowly enlarge advantage and prepare endgame ,but losing are often due to serious blunder) . And when I am out of energy ,I often make tactic blunder and crushed by same elo opponents . Then maybe one day I am not tired then elo will go back. Which is annoying ,also make elo unstable with win and lose streak.
Do you experienced similar problem ,and how do you deal with it? Thanks . I wonder why advanced players seems dont tried and can enable calculation in every game.
