other canon equipment This ad makes no sense
First the bundle's lens is such a mismatch. Second, why does it come with an EF to RF adapter?

Important — r/canon is not a photo-sharing sub, it's primarily a gear discussion sub, and as such is not the place for sharing pics and videos captured with your Canon gear.
Exceptions exist for New Gear, Lens of the Week, and Showcase posts, but please see their respective sections below to understand when they can be posted and the requirements for doing so.
Likewise, we're not interested in posts sharing photos of Canon equipment (or worse, the boxes they came in)—your 50/1.2 looks the same as everybody else's—so outside of New Gear posts or those trying to problem solve a specific issue, topics showing gear aren't to be posted.
TLDR;
- No photo-sharing posts
- No photos-of-gear posts
- Use flair appropriately as detailed below

New Gear
For showing off a new or new-to-you piece of equipment. As always, include a photo of the gear and a photo or three taken with the gear. Also include an explanation of why you got it and how you like using it.
Lens of the Week
We're consolidating down to a single flair any lens of the week post, rather than individual tags for different lenses or focal lengths. As always, look for the current lens of the week topic to know which optic or focal length is current.

Whats the best option to replace a 5Dsr? I have a bunch of Ef glass and I love the detail and colour I get out of the 5Dsr. I use it with my 24mm tilt shift to get fabulous 80mp panoramas. However it is not great at anything that moves and it seems mirrorless is the way of future so I figure I need a plan for what I’m going to do with camera bodies before I go buying more lenses.
My short list of options are Eos R5 mark 1, Sony A7R VI, or Fuji GFX 100s II.
I don’t mind buying used, all my current gear was bought used.
Has anyone made a similar choice before? What did you get? Are you happy with it?

Hey all,
After years of looking I finally got my first real camera, the Canon R50, and it came with the 18-45mm.
However, I do want more lenses and want to cover most of my bases so I am looking for advice. The ones that seem to cover my use cases (travel, city, landscapes and nature) are the Canon 55-210mm f/5-7.1 and the Rokinon 12mm f/2.
Experience: Beginner
Budget: Ideally under $800
Would these be a smart first two supplement to the included camera(noting I can get both for roughly $600)? Noting i want these for travel to Iceland, Japan, Norway, Thailand and Italy

Hi everyone!
I'm planning to buy a Canon EOS R7 with the RF-S 18-150mm kit lens, and I'm trying to decide which telephoto lens would be the best investment for my main hobby: aircraft photography and planespotting.
My two main options are the Canon RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM and the Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM.
I've found the RF 200-800mm for around €1,400, while the RF 100-500mm L costs considerably more, often over €2,000. That's a substantial difference in price, and I'm wondering whether the L lens really justifies spending so much more.
The biggest advantage of the 200-800mm is obviously its reach. On the EOS R7's APS-C sensor, its field of view is equivalent to approximately 320-1280mm on a full-frame camera. With the 100-500mm, the equivalent field of view is approximately 160-800mm.
I mainly photograph aircraft, including planes that are relatively far away, so the extra reach could make a significant difference. With the 100-500mm, I'd sometimes need to crop my images quite heavily, even with the R7's 32.5 MP sensor.
However, I know the 100-500mm L has an excellent reputation for sharpness, autofocus performance and overall optical quality. It's also brighter than the 200-800mm at comparable focal lengths. I'm concerned about how the 200-800mm performs at 800mm and f/9, particularly on cloudy days, during sunrise or sunset, and whenever the light isn't ideal.
On the other hand, I don't want to spend hundreds of euros extra on the 100-500mm just for a modest improvement in image quality if the 200-800mm already produces excellent results. I'd rather invest that money elsewhere in my photography setup if the difference isn't significant enough.
I'll also have the RF-S 18-150mm kit lens, so I won't need the telephoto to cover general photography or wider focal lengths.
My questions are:
How significant is the real-world sharpness difference between these two lenses on the EOS R7, especially when photographing aircraft?
Does the RF 200-800mm remain sufficiently sharp at 600-800mm to take advantage of the R7's 32.5 MP sensor?
How much detail would I realistically lose by shooting at 500mm with the 100-500mm and cropping compared with shooting at 800mm with the 200-800mm?
Is the 100-500mm's better maximum aperture a major advantage in real-world planespotting, particularly on cloudy days or in low light?
Is the RF 100-500mm L worth paying €600 or more extra for, considering that I would lose 300mm of maximum focal length?
Would the 200-800mm be the better long-term investment for someone who prioritises reach and detailed photographs of distant aircraft?
If you owned an EOS R7 and already had an 18-150mm lens for general photography, which of these two telephotos would you buy?
I'm not simply looking for the lens with the best optical quality on paper. I want the most sensible combination of reach, sharpness, autofocus, low-light performance and price.
My main concern is spending over €2,000 on the 100-500mm L when I could get the 200-800mm for around €1,400. I don't want to regret losing the extra reach, but I also don't want to sacrifice too much image quality just to get to 800mm.
I'd particularly appreciate feedback from people who have used either lens on the EOS R7 for real-world aircraft photography.

The following is my reason for needing an upgrade:
My oldest kid started marching band this past summer and I acquired a side line pass to shoot at home games and competitions. My son is also in football which most of his games are during the day.
The issue:
Since much of the marching band and competitions fall in the evening and at night, I am at the mercy of the stadium lighting being adequate. My R tends to struggle quite a bit since I need keep the shutter speed fast enough to freeze the band members as they move. I am usually left with having to crank the ISO which it doesn’t take much for the noise to become an issue.
With football, I am finding that I am missing a lot of shots as the R’s autofocus is not very good at tracking. I get a lot of images focusing on the wrong thing when I am having to burst shoot.
For both kids events, the RF 100-500 lives on my R almost permanently.
My dilemma:
Before this year, I took all photos free of charge. Things have changed drastically with what I still consider a hobby. People have asked to purchase many pictures from me to the point where I am starting to make a good amount of money. It has forced me to consider my hobby a side hustle. With that, I feel the need to upgrade my camera body to support the price I charge. I feel like I could get away with charging more if I felt more confident in the image quality.
Given the two very different activities above, do you feel like there is a big enough jump or a need to consider the Mkiii over the Mkii when I am coming from an R?
Thank you in advance, any insight is greatly appreciated!

Basically just the title. I am currently upgrading from a Lumix GH5 and these are the choices I’ve landed on for hybrid use, mainly wildlife photography/video. I come from the Lumix ecosystem and love Panasonic’s colors, but I am giving Canon the chance especially with its AI eye tracking features which have been swaying me towards Canon. Just wanted to see what people have experienced with the R5 since I’m not as familiar or experienced with Canon. Feels like the Canon is superior in most aspects. Just unsure mainly about how the colors and features stack up.

Im currently using a ef 70-200 2.8 mark ii and I'm just wondering if I should even consider upgrading to the rf version. I see so many people holding onto their ef version it makes me think there's just not enough difference to upgrade. I know some people including myself prefer the internal zoom on the older version but is that really a good enough excuse or is there just no point in spending upwards of 2k on a new lens whenever the ef version is still an amazing lens

I currently shoot on a Canon 100D that i've had for years and years, i'm relatively satisfied with it but would like an upgrade, i've settled on the 7D mkII for a variety of reasons, I use it mainly for wildlife photography being the main one. I also want to get a 400mm prime lens, I currently have the 55-250mm lens by canon which I love but I want more versatility when shooting things further away. I will more than likely get both in the next couple of years but is there an order you would recommend buying them in, don't want to get one and end up wishing I had the other. I'm currently leaning towards upgrading the body first due to the price mainly.

I'm wanting to upgrade my wildlife lens I'm just not sure what direction to go. I'm using a canon R7 and a ef 400 f5.6. I've looked at upgrading to the ef 100-400 ii but after some research I found out it's basically the same sharpness wise at 400. So at this point I thinking maybe the rf 100-500 or a better prime. Any suggestions? My budget is 1500-2000 usd
Edit: I also forgot to mention I shoot a lot of sports so I've considered the ef 300 f2.8 so if anyone knows how well that works for wildlife please lmk

I have a R6i which came with a RF24-105mm F4-7.1 IS lens. I am going to NYC and would like recommends as to if I should simply take that lens or should I buy something to complement it such as a RF 16mm f/2.8 STM?
r/canon • u/Master_Enthusiasm754 • 7h ago
I’ve used the RF 70-200 F/4 for a while now, and don’t get me wrong, it’s a great lens. It’s light and versatile. But I pretty soon realized for some shots I do, even F/4 not enough, and now I plan on getting a 2.8 telephoto lens
I’ve seen people telling me to get the EF version instead cause the RF version is not worth as much as it costs. I am slightly intrigued though as I don’t like adapters(personal preference, always felt it would fall off for some reason), so I want to ask besides not needing an adaptor, what else am I missing out on if i buy the EF 70-200 f/2.8?

Hello! I have a canon rebel t6 i got many years ago and now am starting to use it again. I really want to invest into a good lense or maybe one that fits what i do most. I like takin pictures of the outside. Like trees and stuff on trails. RN i have EFS 18-55MM lense. I do not do people. Only flowers, trees, nature. sometimes animals but not often. any advice would be great! thank you
price wise would love something like 400 and under? obivously if it goes over a bit thats okay! i dont know price ranges so if it has to go over thats cool to. im very new to this as i havent used a camera since 2019.
EDIT: price range ill say under 1000
EDIT 2: i see comments about what im looking for and i genuinely dont know. im just seein what everyone has used and is good for takin pictures of nature like i said. im not saying the lens i use now is bad just see about OTHERS thats been used and how people liked it. sorry :(

I am inheriting a M-Lite body and accessories from a buddy. He wants to give it away, but I am insisting on paying something. I already own a M6 mark ii and a decent set of lenses (sigma 50mm prime, 22mm pancake some wide angle manual prime lenses, 7mm and 11mm). I am having trouble locating a reasonably priced M50 body (hoping for a $250ish price point). Is this venture even worth the investment for the raw video capabilities? If anyone has any experience with the M-Lite kit, that would be useful to hear your thoughts.

Hello! I have been struggling with one specific "issue" for about a week now and could not figure it out, so please give me any advice or if someone have been there: HELP :(
Here is the setup- 1 laptop(primary screen) and 1 external monitor(Smart TV) connected via HDMI in extended mode. Lets say the second monitor is meant for youtube music/podcast. The camera is Canon 70D(Wi-Fi). Connecting automatically when turned on with laptop (Canon EOS Utility). It opens DPP app and the main control app(that one tiny window with camera settings, etc.). I want to grab the camera>point>shoot...>...>... quick review. It opens almost instantly on second monitor(jpeg format) with Quick Review, but on minimized window. To fix this temporarily, I have to go to the laptop, maximize the window, and then every subsequent shot appears in fullscreen. However, the problem occurs when I turn off the camera—the apps close automatically (as they should). After that, when I turn the camera back on and take another photo, the Quick Review window is minimized again.I would love for the image to open in fullscreen automatically, but I have to maximize it manually every single time I restart the apps (by turning the camera on/off).
Pls if you have any idea how to force it to be fullscreen let me know. I am open to trying even HDMI dongles, TV is Smart TV and searched that it may transfer the picture a.k.a same result but different pathway.

I loved my R50 but my local camera store had a grand re-opening and I couldn't pass on the trade-in specials. I've been eyeing a R7 for a while and I'm happy I pulled the trigger on it.

Right now I'm using a Sony a7 III + Samyang 35-150mm f2-2.8, but I tried out an R6 mk3 yesterday and fell in love with it. Now, I don't have mk3 buget, but I've been eyeing the mk1 since then.
Would it be a sidegrade going to the R6 mk1 + canon EF 24-70mm f2.8 gen 2 for event/concert photography? (I honestly don't use the really long reach of the Samyang as much as I thought I would)
I found an offer for an R5 with a shutter count close to 700k. It is reasonably priced, about 500€ cheaper than lesser-used ones and comes with a one-year warranty. The seller is a well-known store.
Is it too risky or worth a try?
Hello!
So I have two camera bodies of the Canon EF (the FD-mount 35mm SLR camera from the 1970s, not the EOD electrical autofocus lens mount). One, my dad bought in Japan in the 70s, and one I bought from a collector where I live. It is a fantastic camera, and I love it very much. I have no experience with digital cameras, and have ever only used this analogue camera since I was a kid.
They have both been working fairly well, considering their age (coming in at over 50 years now). Thing is, now they have both got the same issue. All of a sudden, when loading a new cartridge in the camera, I cannot wind the winding lever. It is just dead stuck and will not move at all. This hinders me from advancing the film so the film transport sprocket cannot pick up the film (I can move it manually with my fingers but that does not really work out the problem).
I am posting a picture of the instructions and I marked where in the process my problems occur.
Also, the small button on the bottom of the camera refuses to pop out again (surely it must be related)
This has never been an issue before, but it feels weird that it has now happened on both cameras. Am I doing anything wrong, or is it just age that makes the internal mechanics stale? Can somebody please help me?
The only analogue camera shop in my town does not handle this model in particular (he said the EF is the most clunky and weird construction Canon ever made).
Please note that I am by no means an expert on camera technics (just a happy amateur) so I may just be doing something wrong since it has been some time since I last used the camera.
UPDATE: The shutter button is also stuck, and will not be pressed down, either.

I'm currently using a Rebel T3, I have a Tamron 18-200 3.5-6.3, a 50mm and a 70-300mm 4.5-7.3 and I believe I've outgrown my camera and gear therefore I've been looking and I'm considering buying a 6D used for about 300$ but does anyone have any recommendations? Ideally I'd like a full frame camera and my budget is about 600$ (if you have any lens recommendations in the budget that'd be great).

I am looking for my next lens. I have a R5 MKII; I am a hobbyist and shoot on family trips, and wildlife on our 5 acres. Very little portraits, except for the dog. I hope that helps. Looking to spend around $1k used. This is what I have now:
14-35 f4
24-105 f4
50mm f1.4 VCM
100-400mm plus 1.4 extender
28mm f2.8 pancake
I am looking at the 100mm f2.8 Macro for some flowers & small animals
Also thinking about the 24mm VCM for some Astro stuff.
I would like to use the lens for other things as well - will probably get both at some point, just having a hard time what I will get more use out of now. I do not do a lot of video yet, but I need to spend more time on that. I have changed my mind many times - any thoughts are appreciated!!
