New Moderator Application - Deadline Sunday 08/18

Hello my wonderful humans,

First, we would like to thank you all for contributing and expanding this sub into what it is. We would not be at 11k+ members without you all. Every post and comment has made an impact directly and has helped in spreading awareness about bullying. That said, we are eager to take on a new moderator for the r/bullying sub.

What does this entail?

We are looking for an entry level moderator to keep this a safe space. This would require daily check ins to sift through the modmail and flagging, but we are open to a more senior moderating role as well.

What do you need to submit to apply?

  1. how long have you been a member of the r/bullying sub?
  2. why do you want to help moderate this sub?
  3. do you have any experience moderating on reddit (or platforms such as discord)?
  4. are you looking for an entry level moderating position or do you want to take on more work?
  5. what recommendations do you have for this sub?

Please send your answers directly to us by the end of the week (Sunday August 18th). We will be replying to everyone and will make a decision by mid next week. Thank you all again and we are excited to grow this community more together!

10k Milestone ✨✨👏👏

Hello to all the incredible, brave and beautiful humans here! Thank you all for being a part of this sub and for your vulnerability in sharing your stories and supporting others. We live in a time where there’s more access than ever to opinions and hate so we aim to keep this sub as encouraging as possible to have a place to find community and help. We couldn’t have had this happen without all of you so be proud of yourselves!

A few important updates:

  • Please be sure to check out our discord server! One of our mods has taken the courtesy of creating this to have another outlet to communicate on that is dedicated to this subreddit
  • https://discord.gg/PfKANDA5 Name: Anti-Bullying Server (I am technology inept so look out for a second post or edit here since I likely did not share the server correctly)
  • 10K Milestone also means… we are looking for a new moderator to join our team! Please DM either mod to apply and look out for more updates as the week progresses on the status of applications
  • What to include? 1. Why you want to join 2. How much time you can dedicate (minimum requirement would be to log in 1x a day) 3. Any skills or recommendations you have for our page to boost engagement and provide better resources
  • Please note that this moderator position will start off as an entry mod position so you will only be required to 1. Filter through modmail 2. Review flagged content to begin. If you have moderator experience and you seek a more senior mod role, we can talk about a higher position. We want to start off any newcomers in a easy role to ensure they understand the ins and outs of it all. This is an unpaid position, but it is fulfilling and you can always include it on your resume.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone 🤍

I've been continuously bullied and threatened for nearly 2 years now by a forum website. NSFW

• Upvotes

I am constantly being targeted by a forum that continues to spread lies about me, steal my pictures and feeding them under AI as well as threatening my entire family. In many instances, I had to private my entire profiles in a desperate attempt to stop but they still refuse to stop. They are desperately keen on putting my life in danger and bullying me and that forum that keeps bullying me keep downplaying their horrendous actions towards me and make up a lie to justify their harassment against me and I cannot take this anymore. The country it is based on keeps turning a blind eye to this despite many hosting services trying to (rightfully) de-platform them, even the site owner of this forum encourages harassment towards me. This is the same forum that encouraged a man to shoot up a mosque killing 50 people and a woman to get another person to perform incest and many people committed suicide because of this forum itself. It's a dangerous forum that encourages terrorism. I seriously need help shutting this website down, it is come to me that making my content private hasn't stopped them at all and they'll do everything the can to have me killed.

А почему люди настолько ужасны?

• Upvotes

WHY PEOPLE PLEASING RUINED MY LIFE

My life changed around 2022, when I began to experience things a 12 year old shouldn't be....I was at middle school and around the middle of the year, I faced bullying as such as being left out and mocked for my appearance and this affected me a lot especially I was comparing my lifestyle to this one girl who literally had everyone worship her- like she had everything, the fame, the money lifestyle, appearance and what really affected me the most was my body type. I kept calling myself "fat" for no reason and spent all my free time on weight loss even though people told me not to (remember I was only 12). Fast forward later(4 years later), me moving to a new environment, I thought things would be better until I faced more bullying as a 16 year old, I moved to Malaysia to take my IGCSEs and my people-pleasing took a negative toll, anything I did, I wanted to get the praise from people that was why I aimed for awards just so I can get people to like me more and when I found out I didn't get it and the other girl got it, I cried because that same girl began spreading it like gossip, she would screenshot my messages and send it to the group chat and I felt uncomfortable and when I confronted her, she claimed she deleted it and I knew she was lying... I couldn't believe that I trusted her and that was how she replayed me and now, I blocked all her friends as they kept stalking my social media profiles and still they seem to be happy and no remorse even though I cried for hours... that was when I decided to take revenge but at the same time, it isn't worth it but what else can I do.... I don't feel like forgiving them anymore....

How do yall move on?

I was bullied from age 9 to 14 by these 3 guys, one guy in perticular made it his life mission to make my life a living hell, If i transferd schools, he'd transfer to the same school so he could keep bullying me. Ive gotten alot of bruises and nose bleeds because of him. But its been a couple of years now and ive been in therapy and im alot better now, But i still cannot bring up the bullying and what he did to me without tearing up. And im almost 18. So if any prior victims could tell me if it ever stops becoming hard to talk about.

Would you continue your friendship with someone who is friends with someone who bullied you?

During school, there was two girls that bullied me, it was physical bullying as well as exclusion. It was really awful and terrible. Theres this one person in her friend group who is friends with both of them, never bullied me but she would just avoid me and ignore the bullying. (Lets call this person C)

20 years later, I met a new online friend who shares the same interest as me. We are queerplatonic friends who text each other so often.

I ended up following her instagram, and that person who was in the friend group (C) is apparently part of her work besties, they were karaokeing together. Should I just drop this friendship? Its only been two months but we text each other almost everyday and I feel like seeing people who was associated with my past makes me feel terrible.

Some people actually wish to be bullied

So a guy was talking about how he used to bully and then he bullied others, my friend was like “ I want to experience bullying once”. I was so shocked. He genuinely thinks it’s an experience.

It hurt so bad cause I was bullied for a year, and I still suffer from the effects of it, I avoid looking at the mirror else I might see the fat ugly trash that they always called me.
I have a complex relationship with food, my social anxiety gets terrible so often.

It just feels so bad that people out there “want” to try being bullied

Anyone else targeted by a large group of neurotypicals including people who were friendly/thought you could trust and traumatized by the experience?

I erased the whiteboard at a pool dive bar I was a regular at for 4 months when most of the NTs were outside smoking I stupidly thought they left. As soon as I did, they all walked back inside and paused at the erased whiteboard where I was standing. Some guy loudly asked who erased the whiteboard. With my communication difficulties and slower processing speed and getting a brain freeze with everyone staring at me, all I could come up with was “it was me”. One guy screamed his ass off telling me not to do it again causing a domino effect where 20 others joined in and surrounded me yelling at me.

The last one to target me was a fellow neurodivergent who had been a regular there for over a year who was very nice to me and always gave me advice on how to socially fit in to the dive bar I was clearly unwelcome at and I socialized with her all the time. But she was very popular at the bar despite her neurodivergence and socialized a lot with my bullies/was excellent friends with them. She was sitting in her seat while the targeting was happening and after it had died down and I was about to return to my seat, after seeming to hesitate she got up and like the rest of them did, told me to not do it again. I guess she wanted to fit in with her community and definitely didn’t target me to avoid becoming the next one given her popularity. I was counting on her to stay out of it and expected her to understand how unfair the situation was for me and how it was straight up bullying but nope.

My newfound best friend who I met at the very place two weeks before witnessed it all and stood up for me the whole time while the people targeted me except her effort didn’t stop them from approaching me, it helped them leave after telling me not to do it again and not saying more. If she hadn’t been there and the neurodivergent person didn’t target me I don’t think I would have cared less. It was so humiliating and embarrassing and I just want to kms even though it’s been two years since the incident

Super traumatized bc the first thing my new and still current bff saw upon meeting me was that I was the toilet paper of the bar and a neurodivergent friendly person I trusted targeted me too.

I am thinking about unfriending my bff despite it being two years later and her being sympathetic and supportive towards me regarding the incident and her asking me for help when her abusive bf is bullying her bc I am so super embarrassed that she saw it and angry at myself for erasing the whiteboard and maybe by letting her go I can forget about the incident faster, but I know that’s childish thinking and I’m not gonna actually unfriend her. Am super bitter towards the “friendly”neurodivergent person who couldn’t resist but target me last

I get bullied at school

These past few days, while I've been away from my country for my sister's surgery, I've been thinking, and I don't want to go back. I'm being bullied; some girls in my class are annoying. My sister tried to fix it and was treated horribly; they called her "crippled," "disabled," and other things, and it only made the bullying worse. I know she wanted to help, but... Now they know me as "the disabled girl's sister." My sister is the person I love most, but I'm fed up with my friends, and other people, seeing her. Her disability is so obvious that everyone bullies me.I don't know what to do about bullying, and I must admit, I'm good at fighting like my sister was before her disability, but I don't want to get expelled from university; with the new laws, they could. And I don't want that, what could I do?

29M, never been in a relationship or dated in my entire life. Struggling with language barriers and fear of rejection. Any advice?

Hi everyone,

I’m 29 years old, living in the UK, and I have never been in a romantic relationship or been on a date in my entire life. For a long time, this has been weighing heavily on me.

Mainly, I struggle with two major hurdles:

Language barrier/weakness: I often feel unconfident expressing my deep thoughts and emotions because I worry my language skills aren't good enough.

Fear of rejection: The thought of opening up to a woman and facing rejection terrifies me, and it keeps me from even trying.

I really want to change and move forward, but I don't know where to start. Has anyone here been in a similar situation or overcome something like this? What steps or mindset changes helped you?

Any advice or kind words would mean a lot. Thank you.

Think about it

Someone who abuses u, disrespects u, and yet u cannot tell the authorities (teachers) or else you’re a snitch.

For real ?!!

Has Hollywood catered to a bully culture?

When I was growing up it was all about not being a bully Rom-coms and making love not making hate. I remember the hope I had for my future and I think those moments brought people together now all I can think about is how everything is despicable this and wicked that. Has Hollywood enabled a bully culture? I don't think this is just a conspiracy anymore.

I wish I never joined my high school football team

TLDR I had endured two years of suffering from somebody who’s related to me and his friend which caused a big event that has been a big part of why I lash out when I talk to myself sometimes and this could’ve been avoided if he just wasn’t a bully

After graduating, I am now reflecting on all that’s happened to me and now I’m starting to remember my first two years were very awful because I had joined the football team to make others proud of me. There mainly two people who had bullied me somebody that was related to me and his friend and for weeks they would say and do hurtful things to me like say how everybody in the group chat was gonna run a train on my mom, which is weird cause he’s related to me. Another time he wanted to slap the shit out of me for no reason while we at a different game to support or varsity players. Also there was a time where he had stole my jacket and was probably wearing it and I went to go grab it for him and he tore it and so I was just holding him because I was angry and I didn’t wanna punch him and so he holds and we fall his head collides with my head and I hit my head on some concrete and I’m dazed and confused and just crying and I told the coaches what happened they didn’t do anything about it and this all led up to one time at practice were some guy was saying some shit about my mom and I gave him two warnings not to say things about my mom again who is at this point not doing very well. No one else was there for her. Is that me so I slapped his helmet off his head as a warning, cause I didn’t wanna fight and I turned around and he has me in the back of the head with his helmet so I punch him in the face for that then come two days later, he’s constantly saying he’s gonna do my mom. He’s gonna do all this and then after practice, the person related to me had let him back in, the locker room, even though he was kicked off the team, causing him to sneak me when I was tired. I had my gear in my hands, and I couldn’t really fight back and no one in the whole room did anything and I say that because they know I don’t fight but they were just recording on their phones and then after the fight he fled and I told the Coach what happened and then I was so upset. I felt like the biggest loser because I felt like I was at my lowest point at the time because I had to punch use violence to stop somebody from bullying me and stuff when I try to use my words before I even fight. My glasses were broken. My lip was busted I was mad at everybody. I was mad at the coaches because I told them I had been bullied by these guys before, but they were like oh it’s just friendly banter and I had told the principal he didn’t do anything and then I got punished for fighting back and defending myself and after all that now, everybody on that team wanted to be like yo bro, we’re gonna actually jump that guy, but nothing happened to him. But it’s not all bad after all that I quit the team to join a different sport and that was the best decision ever because I actually had people who didn’t treat me like garbage 24 seven and asked for my relative he joined another school and his team sucks so bad that it made me happy to see him actually get karma

If you’re reading this part, I want to say thank you for reading the whole thing and if you wanna ask me a question about anything else I’ll be happy to.

Chinese school in the Phils, evaded by pathetic bullies

I came from a Chinese school and before whenever there are arguments with classmates or among student, a physical fight would fix it and everything will be ok after. Accepting the result of that fight and admitting who looses. But now, no physical fight instead an unapologetic mouth blabbering abt some filthy wordings. A more damaging to mental health of students. Being bullied is worst than physical bruises. And yet the administration and teachers does not do anything about it. They are tide by different policies, rules and regulations as their often excuses. Even though they have seen the bullying infront of them, they couldn’t even punish those kids that are becoming criminals.

High school bully died, no obit

In high school, Darla* (fake names used) was renowned for having a mean, nasty streak. She would openly ridicule anyone, spread vicious rumors, and most annoyingly, pop other girls bra straps.

She made a powerful enemy in Zia, however. Zia and her boyfriend were the couple who you knew would be married as soon as they graduated.

Darla flapped her mouth one too many times about breaking them up, and Zia caught her after school one day, giving Darla an epic beat down.

After that, it was recommended that Darla change schools, and no one missed her.

I recently got to wondering what had become of Darla, and after some digging, discovered she had died over twenty years ago. No obituary, nor any mention of her when both parents died only a few years ago. Her brothers were mentioned, and the grandparents, but not Darla.

Kinda sad. But then, I recall what a nasty person she was, and I don't feel sad.

Strange.

Feeling like that past is knocking at my door, and I don’t know how to open it

Hello everyone, I’m 25F and I really like my life, I have an amazing boyfriend and we live in our beautiful house and I’m going towards my dreams of years of being a fashion designer, this is my creative passion.

Even though I love my life I still have problems with mental health. I was diagnosed by a psychiatrist with BPD traits and ROCD and HOCD.

Ever since I was little I was very sensitive and spacey and fragile, and I was very vulnerable. I was bullied in the ages 8-14, and I internalized it into the belief I there’s something wrong with me, and feeling very insecure and rejected around people.

I really love myself, I do, I think I’m very sensitive, smart, pretty and very creative, but still I have things I think that is wrong with me and my mind makes worst case scenarios and ocd around things that are important to me.

I’m not thinking about the bullying in my childhood at all, but I dream about it at least every week for years (About me being rejected around people, or me getting revenge and screaming and beating people)

And everytime I feel like someone maybe likely to step on me, I feel furious af and need to control my urges not to yell at them. and most of the times I do, but I feel so much anger in me.

I feel like the dreams and the amount of rage I get in situations where I’m triggered is trying to signal something for me, because I really don’t think about those incidents but I feel like my unconscious self is trying to contact me.

I beat him and I heard what happened to him and I feel bad now

During high school, from freshman to senior year, I was always getting bullied. Not physically, but verbally. This one kid would always call me a frog because I had duck feet and, I guess, walked weirdly.

The thing is, the kid who was always making fun of me was 5'6" and weighed 110 pounds. I wasn't a big kid either. I was tall and skinny, standing at 5'11" and weighing 132 pounds.

The reason I didn't beat him up until my senior year was that I was afraid of what would happen afterward. Even if I beat him up, then what? I would most likely get expelled because my high school was extremely strict. Plus, I didn't want him to get to me. I thought that one day he would stop, but he never did.

My classmates started calling me "frog" too, supposedly as a joke, and this went on for three straight years. I was angry and frustrated, and I honestly didn't know what to do.

During my senior year, he made fun of me again, and for some reason, I got extremely mad. So, I waited until the last day of school, waiting for him to make fun of me again. And he did.

I snapped. I went after him and elbowed him in the temple. He fell to the ground with blood on his face. For some reason, I wanted to humiliate him, so I pulled his pants down. It turned out that he had actually shit himself.

Now, imagine this: the professors walk into a classroom full of teenagers with their phones out, recording everything, and there's a kid with blood on his face and shit all over his sweater and pants.

The professors were extremely mad at me, but they didn't do anything. His parents called the police on me, but since I was only 17, I got away with it.

Fast-forward to the present. I'm 28, and I go back to my hometown to visit an old high school friend of mine. We start sharing stories, and he brings up the kid I beat up.

It turns out that, because of that incident and the humiliation he went through, he couldn't finish college and ended up dropping out. His mother had also died, so he had to take care of his father, who had developed epilepsy. Unfortunately, his father died two years after that he moved out of town.

After hearing all of this, I've been feeling extremely guilty about what happened.

Back then, I never told the teachers what he was saying to me because I thought I would look like a wuss in front of my classmates. I was dumb and arrogant, thinking I had to get justice with my fists instead of handling things another way.

Now, for the past two weeks, I've been feeling extremely guilty about that kid. I keep thinking about what happened and wondering if my actions had a bigger impact on his life than I ever realized.

why do bullies go on to succeed in life?

I had a huge bully during middle-high school who heavily damaged my mental health. He would single me out in public settings and start humiliating me and it was genuinely torture everyday. When I transferred, I was so grateful I finally got out of that hellhole and loved my new school so so much.

Anyway, today, while I was looking through LinkedIn, I saw his profile pop up on my page. I had totally shoved him to the back of my mind so naturally, I was curious. When I clicked on it, I was shocked to see how much he has accomplished -- like, it's genuinely very, very impressive (I'm talking about HYPSM, insane academic research and publications, ironically lots of volunteering work, crazy famous top company internships sort of stuff). Reading his bio for which he acts like your typical super-extroverted "nice guy" who's really passionate about what he does made me so incredibly disgusted. It annoys me to the core with how much he's acting with this "persona" because it's clearly working and getting him to places.

I just hate how much people are buying his persona and how he seems to be cruising through life. I know the general advice to this bitter and frustrated feeling I'm experiencing as a victim is to "just ignore it" and get on with my own life, but I can't help but to feel a strong sense of injustice.

I hate this. Why don't bullies get punished? He's probably forgotten me, but I certainly haven't.

Doxxing incident

Thumbnail drive.google.com
1 Upvotes

My friend got doxxed recently. Let's call her Z.

She got called an attention seeker, and accused of a bunch of mean things, most were just lies. She also got her full name, irl photos, grades, and school address leaked.

She got death threats too.

After investigation, we found out there were 4 doxxers. Apparently one of the doxxers is L. Z's best friend... And is also in the same school as the rest of us.

Now of course, we took it to the teacher.

But after counseling, the teachers for some reason is on L's side. They downplayedownplayed how severe the doxxing is. They even focused on Z's grades for some reason that had NOTHING TO DO with this btw.

So, of course we didn't accept it.

One of my friend, Dolle, you might recognize her for her art. Talked about it. She talked about how unfair it is right?

Well, L found out about it. And told the teachers.

And Dolle got scolded for bringing the problem up again since "It was already solved" And "They were serious about the problem"

And i hate this. I hate this.

Just because Z doesn't do the best at school, (she often fail, skips school, etc)

Doesn't mean it's not a reason for the school to not to pay attention to her problems.

You don't need to be the perfect student just for the school to treat your problems properly.

Curious question

I know many of us have said how the people that bullied us didn't go on to be poor and have no life - they became cops, nurses, etc. (That I and others noticed show zero compassion and abuse their positions without punishment.) My question is, were any of the students that bullied you similar (as in took part in school activities, showing "school spirit", while still being atrocious bullies)?

The reason I ask this is because I knew numerous students like this (was reminded of this when I watched the 2013 Carrie film; I chose to watch this since I don't have Amazon Prime for the new Carrie TV Series).

For example, one bully (whose father was the Guidance Counsellor for the horrendous high school we were in) decided to run for Student President (she did and she won). I remember her joking to her friend, because of her last name, she should make the slogan "Don't be a C*** vote for Hunt!" (She of course lied and denied it when I mentioned it to her.)

Were any of the people bullying you showing "school spirit" and doing things for the school (such as help set up for events, ran for student president, etc.)?

I graduated in 2008; however, the bullies in the schools I attended matched various characters from the various iterations of Carrie. (Because I was basically treated like Carrie White in an atrocious elementary-Jr. High School and horrendous high school, despite not looking like her, my name isn't close to Carrie, I'm not religious, nor did I say anything about menstruation, and the bullies I encountered as an adult admit this without remorse or apologizing and deny, dismiss, or victim-blame instead, I tell them which character from Carrie they're most like and which iteration, either the 1976 film or 2002 film; I don't go to 2013 since we graduated in 2008. This ability shocks the bullies since I was able to correctly match every one of them to a character; I know nobody that matches Tommy Ross though.)
