Ik it’s a low risk film with a small scale budget but I think there’s really a lot at stake here. Its a linus test for the Dcu to see if they can be experimental with their projects with the Dc brand and if they can get audiences to actually turn out for these B-list character movies that Gunn seems to want to be apart of his universe. If this small scale project fails what does it say about the state of the Dcu and their future projects like Swamp thing?

The MCU was in a pretty rough shape the last few years, but everyone agreed that 2026 was a heavy combo of Spider-Man and Avengers. Brand New Day surprassed all expectations in quality, reception and gross and it certainly restored some of MCU's good-faith with audiences.
However, I wonder if the pre-sales and tracking craziness of Doomsday was heavily/directly affected by BND'S perfomance. For me, it was always obvious that Doomsday was gonna be huge, because it's an Avengers movie with legacy characters. However, I didn't expect the surge of hype and craziness as it stands, so I guess that Brand New Day did help a lot.
What do you guys think?

So is it crazy to say there might be a battle for first place this weekend? I have no idea what to think about this and how to predict this weekend box office. YCSE had a strong Monday and will be expanding theaters this weekend. Its WOM is tremendous and its opening weekend seemed to only be stopped due to its limited theatrical release and long run time. With more theaters and screens now and hype that hasn’t died down but has kept growing, can YCSE top its OW and get closer to 20M on its second weekend? On the other hand, I’m having a bad feeling about Clayface. DC needs the movie to have great reviews to have a good OW because currently I don’t feel the hype for this. If this comes out with mediocre reviews or even bad ones then it will be really interesting coming into this box office weekend. Would bad reviews hurt it so bad that it lands in the low 20M range? Any chance it even goes sub 20M? What do you think? What movie is taking the top spot at this upcoming weekends box office. Is there really a shot at YCSE placing first? I made a box office prediction game and last week’s winner was 82.5% accurate. Come make a prediction below.

According to TheFlatLannister on Box Office Theory, Clayface is tracking for a $15-20M DOM opening weekend. For their opening weekends, Superman had a 57% DOM share ($125M DOM and $95M OS for $220M WW) and Supergirl had a 59% DOM share ($37.1M DOM and $25.5M OS for $62.6M WW). DCU is hella domestic heavy and this is a dark, very gruesome, body horror movie. This seems like international kryptonite.
Applying a 58% DOM share (the average of Superman and Supergirl) to Clayface would give us a range of an $11M to $14.5M OW internationally assuming FlatLannister is right about the domestic opening.
Kraven the Hunter did $11M DOM and $15M OS OW and finished at $25M DOM and $37M OS. I can see Clayface being Kraven but with the splits reversed
(I deleted the old post to remove the unnecessary fan wars BS, sorry about that, I only included that because technically Sep 11 was the original release date but yeah that bit was pointless)

I was wondering about this the other day while looking through Will Smith's filmography and I found a couple of movies that for me, only made the money they made because Will was at the height of his star power. Not that these movies are bad, but Will was the main appeal: I AM LEGEND, HANCOCK and I ROBOT
Are there any other movies where this happened?

My apologies in advance, but question for those that have been to the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA. I bought pre-sale tickets to see Avengers Doomsday at the TCL Chinese Theater on December 17th through Fandango. Usually when I make ticket reservations, a QR code for a mobile ticket shows up, either in-app or in the email confirmation they send afterwards. With my Avengers Doomsday at TCL reservation however, I don't have a QR code present in the app or email, it just says "Bring your credit card to pick up tickets from the box office." I know we're still 2 months away from the film coming out, but will a QR code eventually show up in-app/email for the reservation, or will I have to go early to pick up my tickets for the film? And can I pick up my tickets from the TCL Chinese Theater box office same day?

The current top 5 post-pandemic domestic:
Spider-Man: Brand New Day - $958.3M
Spider-Man: No Way Home - $814.9M
3. Top Gun: Maverick - $722.0M
Avatar: The Way of Water - $684.1M
Inside Out 2 - $653.0M
Now, barring DCEU 2016 level reviews, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are obviously going to beat $722.0M domestically. I think Black Panther 3 in December 2028 as well might have a shot. But those are MCU movies so they don’t count.
Some potential candidates:
Shrek 5 - I don’t know much about Shrek and don’t care about it but I think Shrek 2 sold like ~73M admissions domestically, which is higher than Brand New Day! But the animation looks crap (it looks like Illumination made it).
Frozen 3/4 - Frozen 2 will adjust to like $675-700M by the time these movies are out. They definitely have a shot.
Incredibles 3 - This is a definite contender. Incredibles 2 did $608M DOM back in 2018, which adjusts to ~$800M now, and will probably be closer to $850M by the time this movie comes out. Despite the internet hating on it, Incredibles 2 had great reception, as it got an A+ CinemaScore. It’s kind of like No Way Home. No Way Home was loved when it came out, but after about 3 months, the internet turned on it and insisted it was a horribly written piece of shit. But looking at Brand New Day’s opening numbers, No Way Home was clearly LOVED by the GA. Once Incredibles 3’s opening weekend numbers come in, we’ll see that Incredibles 2 was loved by the GA.

It has been interesting tracking and predicting the OW for each movie because all we had to go off of was pre-sale and marketing. Neither allowed reviews to be published until opening day. Both movies were poorly received and their OW Fri-Sun drop showed how front loaded each movie was. Is that the case or was it a case of word-of-mouth spreading. Once the reviews started to pour online the more movie goers were aware of the reception for these movies and the ones who watched on the Thursday night opening or Friday received the news too late. If the studios decided to lift the review embargo earlier, the news would have spread sooner and the OW potentially would have been lower.
How important do reviews on RT or other platforms influence a movies box office? Although not a new strategy, it is interesting that this happened in back to back weeks for the first place movie in the box office. Should more movies stick to trusting their marketing team and not releasing reviews too early for movies they believe are just mediocre? Of course hide the reviews for bad movies, but let’s say they think a movie might only get a 60% on RT. Should they still lift the embargo early to let that word out? I know you should have a level of trust in the movie you’re putting out, but this at least deserves a conversation. Both Other Mommy and Street Fighter was interesting to predict for. I made a box office prediction game, so it was fun to see how people predicted for these movies along with the rest of the top 5 for the weekend. This week’s winner was actually 82.5% accurate. Come check out this past weekends prediction results, and submit a prediction for this upcoming weekends box office!
