Software SoundTouch app alternatives

Post image
40 Upvotes

This is just a start, but I have added a SoundTouch app alternatives page to the Bose Wiki.

There, I listed current known issues, added info shared by the app developer Christian, u/nachtfux997, and included known solutions.

I separated the solutions into two sections.

  1. Ones that allow you to control the SoundTouch systems directly (e.g. AirPlay, 3rd party apps, Home Assistant, etc.).
  2. The second section is for 3rd party devices you connect to your SoundTouch system's AUX input.

I am hoping that the community will help expand the information on the Wiki. Not only to help guide SoundTouch users to viable options, but also to help guide developers on what SoundTouch features are missing. So that some, if not all, can be replicated once the app goes away.

This specific post is about alternative SoundTouch solutions.

  • On Jan 7, 2026, Bose announced that they will update the app so that it would continue to work after their servers shut down. Though without built-in music streaming capabilities. Here's the main conversation around this update.
  • The original conversation, from Oct 9 2025, about the closure of the SoundTouch app is located here.
  • If you wish to sign the petition asking Bose to reconsider, follow this link.

Community Feedback Request Suggestions for Bose reddit FAQ Pinned Post

There appear to be a frequent amount of posts that ask the same/similar questions and inevitably receive the same answers, or answers that are simply links to the last time the question was asked on the sub.

So it might be easier to have a pinned post with the most "Frequently Asked Questions" for people to read or other redditors to reference if similar questions get posted.

To make this manageable, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Place suggestions in the comments: Include the question and answer. Make sure sure this can be understood by anyone and include links to resources if needed within the text.
  2. Only ONE FAQ suggestion per comment: If you have multiple suggestions they need to be in individual comments so that others can comment and vote on each one.
  3. Only one post per suggestion: If someone else has the same idea on the same subject then please read what they wrote and if needed, please politely comment on what they wrote and make suggestions that might help improve it.
  4. Vote for the best suggestions: This is to thank reddiors for their suggestion and will help other redditors see (and if needed comment on) the FAQ post. A high vote count is not needed for an item to be included.
  5. Please stay on topic: Please limit all off topic conversations and if needed please make another post if it is not about aiding in suggestions or improving already suggested FAQs.

So please post below suggestions on what should be placed in a pinned post.

Hello, Ive been using the quietcomfort 20 for years now since 2014. Ive loved them so much especially for my pc setups for gaming and work. My main concern is has anyone tried them out for gaming and are they good for hearing foot steps or subtle sounds, (surround sound). Also would want to know if their is an improved difference in sound quality from the quietcomfort 20. Thanks

Headphones Bose QuiteComfort SC Headphones

I bought Bose QuiteComfort SC Headphones Gen1 (New) for USD 150.

I am not familiar with Bose Headphones, I use their sound bar. I thought it was a good deal for a headphone I could use during travel. I use Jabra earphones and headphones for work and as my daily driver.

I know Bose makes Ultra version and Quite comfort already has Gen 2.

I was wondering, if anyone has used it how is the sound quality and ANC on these Gen1 headphones. there is no spatial sound on this version which I am fine with it.

And at $150, is it a good deal? I have option to return it with in 30 days.

Would greatly appreciate the feedback.

Headphones Is it time to replace the pads? - QC ultra 2

• Upvotes

I bought a pair of QC ultra2s in June. I wear them most days. I have noticed that the noise cancelation is not as strong (notable difference during flights). When i turn my head or any kind of pronounced head movements, the seal breaks. When i yawned on the flight it also breaks the seal.

I was thinking of wicked cushions. Any thoughts?

Other Companion 5 user of 15 years – what's the best replacement now that the Companion series is discontinued?

Post image

Hi All,

I've been using the Bose Companion 5 as my desktop speakers for about 15 years and loved it. The tiny satellites on the desk plus the Acoustimass module on the floor were perfect for my setup. Unfortunately the bass module has taken water damage over the years (floor mopping, plus a beagle who decided it was his tree when young). The cabinet has swollen and opened up air gaps, and the bass isn't what it used to be.

As far as I can tell, Bose has discontinued the entire Companion series and doesn't make a desktop 2.1 system anymore. So I'm looking for advice from people who have been in the same spot:

  1. What did you replace your Companion 5 / 50 with, and were you happy with it?

  2. Is there anything in Bose's current lineup that can realistically fill the desktop role?

My setup: a desk in a small work room, used for music, YouTube and some movies at moderate volume, connected to my computer.

I'm currently considering the KEF LSX II (possibly with a sub), but I'd love to hear what other ex-Companion users ended up with.

Thanks!

Headphones Bose QuietComfort creak making me go insane

Hi,

do you know any fixes? It's the QuietComfort (no number) model, not ultra. It's only the right cup. It's like a clicking noise that appears every time I move my jaw, slightly move my eyebrows or anything else. It's like plastic creaking or crackling. I noticed the fork-like plastic cup holder creaks when pinched but I don't think it's the culprit. It feels like something inside. It's worse on some days than others. Please 🙏🙏🙏

In-Ear 2024 Quiet Comfort Earbuds - How to add 2nd device for Multipoint?

I just received a pair of the 2024 Bose Quiet Comfort Earbuds 2024 version from work.

They work great for my needs as the ANC is good and so is the music quality.

I’m trying to get them to multipoint connect to my iPhone (currently connected) as well as to my iPad.

I go to the Multipoint icon on the app and the switch is activated, but I can’t see anywhere on how to add in the 2nd device. The user manual and YouTube videos seem to have the old app as it doesn’t look like the most recent one that I downloaded.

Has anyone been able to add a 2nd device using the updated app with these headphones?

Bluetooth speakers Trouble connecting my speaker to my desktop computer

I have a brand new Soundlink Flex (2nd gen). I have no trouble connecting it to my cell phones, it is straightforward as usual. However, when trying to add it as a new Bluetooth device to my HP EliteDesk computer I get a window asking to enter a PIN to be able to connect. Has anyone been through this and have a suggestion ? I tried many PIN numbers of 4, 5 and 6 digits without success...

In-Ear When are the wired earbuds coming out?

The noise-cancelling wired earbuds were supposed to release on October 15. Were they delayed or something? Best Buy says "sold out" and Bose says "notify me."

Bose Quietcomfort Ultra 1st Gen Earbuds

I have Bose Gen 2, Bose speaker. Bose was like a close friend to me.

This QC Ultra 1st Gen pair was bought a year ago and is out of warranty. I barely use this like 4/5 times in a month, the earbuds is still in mint condition. Suddenly the right earbud is not working. When I place the right earbud in the case it gives solid amber, which means the earbud connects to the case. I tried resetting, disconnecting every possible way but the right side is not working anymore. It's dead. This is so pathetic for 200$ earbuds. Now it's time to move on and find something new. It was a good journey with Bose overall. Thank you Bose!

Headphones Why are Gen 1 of QC the same price as Gen 2?

I am contemplating getting a pair of the Quiet Comfort headphones but I don’t understand why they are both the same price! Like what is the difference between both? Should I just get Gen 2? Both are at $359 btw

In-Ear Bose Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds Mini-Review

Thumbnail

Today I got my Bose Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds which I bought specifically to use with my MacBook Pro. I thought I'd write a quick mini-review.

I own two other pairs of headphones: Sony MDR-M1 wired studio monitors for video editing and Soundcore AeroFit 2s for running outside. Both are great but when I'm traveling or working on the go I don't have a good way to block out noise. I'm also a big fan of wired headphones for anything outside of fitness. There's no battery to worry about and if you take care of them they can last a long time.

Sound quality

Let's start with the biggest concern: sound quality.

These sound great. Plugged directly into my MacBook they sound pretty flat, similar to my Sonys. I use an EQ in Apple Music with the Sonys because, while they're great for editing, I don't particularly enjoy their sound signature for music.

These Bose earbuds are no different which is actually a good thing for me. I get a sound profile that works for editing on the go and I can use the exact same EQ preset I use with my Sonys for music. I might tweak it a little, but having one preset that works for both is much easier.

For anyone who isn't enjoying the sound, I've included the EQ I use along with my MacBook's audio settings. I was worried I'd be disappointed by the sound after seeing reviews mentioning issues with Apple devices. But with the EQ applied, these are definitely great. Honestly I prefer tuning the sound myself rather than sticking with a default sound signature.

All I have besides my MacBook is an older iPhone with Lightning so unfortunately I can only test these with my MacBook for now. I'm not sure whether Android devices recognize the earbuds and automatically apply some kind of EQ, as some reviews mention that they sound great out of the box on Android.

I also haven't had any volume issues. There's plenty of headroom and I usually have them around 50% to 60%.

Comfort

This surprised me quite a bit. These are really comfortable. I can't feel any hard plastic pressing against my ears and both the tips and wings fit me well. They also feel secure.

ANC

No disappointment here. With music playing, I can't hear my fans or furnace.

A while back I had a pair of Soundcore Q20i headphones and in my experience the ANC on these Bose earbuds is on an entirely different level.

I also haven't noticed any significant hiss which I remember seeing mentioned in some reviews. I did notice a slight pressure sensation from the ANC at first but I got used to it pretty quickly.

Microphone quality

Not great, lol. They're good enough for calls but my MacBook's built-in microphone sounds noticeably better.

Final thoughts

I'd easily give these a 9/10. If the microphone were better, they'd be a 10/10 for me.

So far I'm really happy with them.

Headphones I got tired of the Bose app, so I built personal app for the QC Ultra 2 (Android, open source, no account)

I love my QC Ultra 2, but the Bose app drives me crazy it wont let you fine tune or make headphones louder, or control call volume. Its slow, it wants an account, and even sometimes when headphones is clearly connected it still shows unconnected.

So I made Earshot with claude fable, open-source Android app that talks to the headphones directly over Bluetooth. No account and no cloud. It doesn’t even have the internet permission. It has all the daily controls plus a 10-band EQ, call volume boost, a codec panel, a Quick Settings tile and automations. Also it has technical controls for people are tech savvy like me and like to fiddle with their gadgets ;) IYKYK. Also it should work with any QC released recently.

It’s Android only and only tested on the QC Ultra 2 on my Samsung so far. Not affiliated with Bose. Firmware updates still need the Bose app(why? DMCA blah blah). Feel free to do whatever(fork it, rework it) with the code. ill maintain it and improve it (once my claude usage resets lol)

GitHub: https://github.com/HellzYeahh/earshot

Let me know what breaks and what would like to change!

Edit: Ver.0.3.1 Implemented a lot of changes and added support for most QC lineup and Skullcandy.

Edit: 0.4 Major backend changes such as better headphones support and quality of life changes. Buttons remapper soon.

In-Ear Bose QC ultra 2 left earbud problems

Ive had the Bose QC ultra 2 and the left earbud started to make a popping sound and the audio just stopped working so I reset it and it made audio again but now of has a random popping sound and the audio seems decreased. I tried cleaning it out but it didn’t make a difference at all and it’s only in the left earbud. Is there a way to fix it or do I have to get a new one?
