Software SoundTouch app alternatives

Post image
39 Upvotes

This is just a start, but I have added a SoundTouch app alternatives page to the Bose Wiki.

There, I listed current known issues, added info shared by the app developer Christian, u/nachtfux997, and included known solutions.

I separated the solutions into two sections.

  1. Ones that allow you to control the SoundTouch systems directly (e.g. AirPlay, 3rd party apps, Home Assistant, etc.).
  2. The second section is for 3rd party devices you connect to your SoundTouch system's AUX input.

I am hoping that the community will help expand the information on the Wiki. Not only to help guide SoundTouch users to viable options, but also to help guide developers on what SoundTouch features are missing. So that some, if not all, can be replicated once the app goes away.

This specific post is about alternative SoundTouch solutions.

  • On Jan 7, 2026, Bose announced that they will update the app so that it would continue to work after their servers shut down. Though without built-in music streaming capabilities. Here's the main conversation around this update.
  • The original conversation, from Oct 9 2025, about the closure of the SoundTouch app is located here.
  • If you wish to sign the petition asking Bose to reconsider, follow this link.

Community Feedback Request Suggestions for Bose reddit FAQ Pinned Post

There appear to be a frequent amount of posts that ask the same/similar questions and inevitably receive the same answers, or answers that are simply links to the last time the question was asked on the sub.

So it might be easier to have a pinned post with the most "Frequently Asked Questions" for people to read or other redditors to reference if similar questions get posted.

To make this manageable, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Place suggestions in the comments: Include the question and answer. Make sure sure this can be understood by anyone and include links to resources if needed within the text.
  2. Only ONE FAQ suggestion per comment: If you have multiple suggestions they need to be in individual comments so that others can comment and vote on each one.
  3. Only one post per suggestion: If someone else has the same idea on the same subject then please read what they wrote and if needed, please politely comment on what they wrote and make suggestions that might help improve it.
  4. Vote for the best suggestions: This is to thank reddiors for their suggestion and will help other redditors see (and if needed comment on) the FAQ post. A high vote count is not needed for an item to be included.
  5. Please stay on topic: Please limit all off topic conversations and if needed please make another post if it is not about aiding in suggestions or improving already suggested FAQs.

So please post below suggestions on what should be placed in a pinned post.

Just got my first Bose headphone from Amazon today (If I know the Feb firmware problem, I won't order it)

Lucky, I got a old one, it has the one-click switch between connected devices function😀

But when connected to macOS, it shows me the version is 5.0.15, I can't find this version from the official site (5.0.20 is the "Start of production): https://support.bose.com/article/quietcomfort-ultra-headphones-2nd-gen-updating-your-headphones

Any one the same?

In-Ear Bose Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds – Is constant ANC hiss normal?

Post image
• Upvotes

I recently got the new Bose Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds, and I’ve noticed a constant white noise/hissing sound whenever ANC is enabled (both Quiet and Aware modes).

In a quiet room, the hiss is clearly noticeable. It disappears completely when ANC is turned off. During music playback, it’s barely noticeable unless I specifically listen for it.

I’m not sure if it was this noticeable on the first day or if something changed. I’ve tested different devices, and the result is the same.

For comparison, my Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) don’t have this constant hiss.

Anyone else with the new Wired Earbuds experiencing this? Is it normal ANC background noise, or could my pair be defective?

I see people have already received these. Bose keeps telling me they aren't available yet. I ordered mine in the beginning of oct. Where did everyone get theirs from? I ordered straight from Bose.

Headphones In or out of ear headphones. So I have really sensitive ears. However I’ve only ever had cheap earbuds. I want to invest in a pair and am trying to decide between the two. I don’t want to get the in ear if they will cause my ears to ache. Anybody else with sensitive ears have any input?

I have diabetic eyes but damn... i really zoomed in, 👀 "eye thought"

🤣😂🤣🥺😭😭 Seller is saying it's obviously an "8pin" that i ordered🧐🧐... i don't even own anything 8pin to my knowledge, from BOSE. Everything is a knock down dragout fight these days... sheesh. 🤷🤦‍♂️

I guess I'll just keep it to avoid the trouble.

Home Audio Advice on buying second hand

Hi folks,
I am considering buying a Bose Smart Soundbar on facebook marketplace. How would I go about verifying if the product is authentic bose product? The product is in box and has a serial number (im assuming good dupes also do). The sellers other listings make it seem like he might be selling amazon bulk liquidations (bunch of assorted goods, still in box)
Its priced at $200, which makes me tad suspicious. Would trying to connect to bose app suffice in confirming its genuine?

Not very tech savvy, so would appreciate the advice.

Other Trying to Set Up a Wired Stereo Sound System with Two Bose Lifestyle Speakers. Constant Buzzing/Clicking Noise. Need Advice!

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I recently bought two Bose Lifestyle Ultra speakers and wanted to use them as a proper wired stereo setup for my desktop (Mac).

To achieve this, I purchased a budget audio interface, the MAONO PS22 Lite, hoping to get a clean, studio-quality stereo sound system without Bluetooth latency.

My current setup:

  • Audio Interface: MAONO PS22 Lite
  • Speakers: Two Bose Lifestyle speakers
  • Cables: UGREEN TRS-to-3.5mm AUX cables
  • Computer: Mac mini M4
  • Connection: Audio interface L/R monitor outputs to the speakers via AUX

The problem:

I'm experiencing persistent electronic buzzing/clicking noises through the speakers.

The noise is especially noticeable when I play or pause audio, and sometimes continues in the background even when the volume is low.

Initially, I used unbalanced cables. I switched to balanced TRS cables, which reduced the noise significantly, but it hasn't disappeared completely.

Interestingly, when I connect a speaker directly through a regular 3.5mm headphone output, everything works perfectly. No buzzing, clicking, or interference.

Why I'm avoiding Bluetooth:

I previously connected both speakers via Bluetooth, but the latency was frustrating. Audio playback, pausing, and video synchronization weren't instantaneous.

I want a fully wired stereo setup with separate left and right channels, minimal latency, and clean audio.

My questions:

  1. Is the buzzing caused by the MAONO PS22 Lite audio interface, the cables, or a possible grounding issue?
  2. Would upgrading to a better audio interface solve the problem?
  3. Am I using the wrong type of cable for connecting balanced TRS monitor outputs to consumer AUX inputs?
  4. Would a dedicated DAC or stereo amplifier be better for this setup?
  5. What's the best way to achieve clean, low-latency stereo audio using these two Bose speakers?

I'm willing to replace the MAONO interface if necessary, but I don't want to spend money on another device only to experience the same problem.

I've attached photos of my audio interface, cables, and speaker connections for reference.

Would really appreciate recommendations from anyone who's dealt with a similar setup or knows more about audio interfaces and balanced/unbalanced connections.

Thanks in advance!

In-Ear My new Bose wired earphones have arrived, but…

Post image
169 Upvotes

I received my new wired Bose noise-cancelling earphones yesterday, and unfortunately, they haven’t lived up to my expectations.

The sound quality on my iPhone is good, but when I connect them to my MacBook, the audio sounds noticeably muffled. I’ve tested them with several apps, including Spotify and Apple Music, but the issue remains the same.

Another disappointment is the lack of Siri functionality. Pressing and holding the middle button doesn’t activate Siri, which is a feature I would have expected to work.

I’ve also noticed a significant difference in sound quality when switching between Normal, Aware, and Quiet modes. In Normal mode, the bass sounds noticeably weaker, and the overall audio quality seems to deteriorate compared to the other modes.

If you enjoy listening to music at high volumes, these earphones might disappoint you, as they simply don’t get very loud.

Overall, I would rate these earphones 2 out of 5 stars. ⭐️ ⭐️ They perform reasonably well in some situations, but the issues I’ve encountered make it difficult to fully recommend them.

I expected more from Bose, especially considering the company’s reputation for audio quality. Sadly, these earphones leave me wondering whether Bose still delivers the same quality it was once known for.

Edit: The ANC performs surprisingly well. There’s a slight background hiss when no music is playing, but it’s barely noticeable and doesn’t affect the listening experience. With music playing, voices and conversations nearby are almost completely drowned out.

In-Ear Bose Wired ANC Earbuds & Apple Devices

Seems like there's a consensus in the other chat these are just no good when used with Apple devices. I only own Apple devices so thinking of returning them.

What do others think?

I don't believe firmware can be updated on these and the sound is pretty rubbish on Apple devices, very sub par even for Bose.

In-Ear Bose Wired Noise Cancelling Earbuds problem with Xiaomi

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble getting my Bose Wired Noise Cancelling Earbuds (USB-C) to work with my Xiaomi 15T Pro running HyperOS 3.

The issue occurs on both HyperOS 3.0.307.0 and 3.0.336.0 (I have two Xiaomi 15T Pro).

The problem:

When I connect the Bose earbuds, the phone doesn't seem to properly recognize or initialize them as a USB audio device.

Normally, I would expect a USB headset notification, but it simply doesn't appear.

Interestingly, it actually worked once: the phone recognized the earbuds, displayed the USB headset notification, and audio played correctly. However, I've never been able to reproduce that behavior since.

What I've tried:

  • Restart the device
  • Restart the device with earbuds plugged in
  • Enabled OTG under Additional Settings before plugging them in
  • Enabled Developer Options and changed the default USB configuration to MIDI
  • Verified that "Disable USB audio routing" is OFF in Developer Options (so USB audio routing should be enabled)
  • Tested another USB-C headset (Jabra), which works perfectly on the Xiaomi
  • Tested the Bose earbuds on a Windows laptop, iPad, and iPhone, they work flawlessly on all three

My suspicion:

Since both devices work independently, and the Bose earbuds actually worked once with the Xiaomi, I suspect this might be a HyperOS USB audio initialization, detection, or compatibility issue rather than a hardware defect.

My questions:

Has anyone experienced something similar with Bose USB-C earbuds on Xiaomi phones?

Is there a known workaround, developer setting, or fix that might help?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Headphones Loud control sounds

I've got the nc-700 and I wonder if I can lower the volume of the "control sounds".

Like the sound of turning it on and off and the sound it makes when you lower the volume to zero.

I find it unesseceraly loud, especially in the evening when you lower the volume too much and the sound becomes really loud when everything else is quiet.

I mean its not that bad but it does hurt my ears just a little bit too much to not upset me.

Theeanksss! :D
