Shitpost Boards of Canada 64 - L is Real
Like any remix, it has its flaws. I made it 7 months ago and spent time refining it until about two weeks ago. I hope you like it

Discussion Anyone think we will get any follow up projects after Inferno?
this year has been a treat so I’m more than satisfied
but how nice would it be if they had an extra EP planned. Like a 4-5 song ep or a deluxe of Inferno
Inferno is such a complete project so idk what else to add
but how cool if they had a Trans Canada Highway-type of project lined up next year or this

Discussion The best part of the Inferno rollout might have been everything we got wrong
One of the things I’ve been thinking about is how much fun the lead-up to Inferno was. Not just because we were finally getting new Boards of Canada, but because of everything that happened before we actually knew what was going on.
The Tomorrow’s Harvest rollout has become legendary. I will admit I didn’t follow the whole thing, but going back through the history of it is amazing: the mystery vinyl, the numbers appearing in different places, people across the world piecing the clues together, eventually cracking the code and discovering what it all meant.
And I think that history primed all of us when the VHS tapes started appearing before Inferno. People rushing tp get a VHS player to decode the tapes lol.
Suddenly everyone was a detective. It was so cool that people were suddenly pulling apart frames, audio, numbers, imagery, religious references, old websites, tape degradation, possible hidden messages. I found some cool stuff through these obscure references.
Then “Tape 05” appeared. Obviously it ended up on the album, but the actual rollout never became a puzzle like Tomorrow’s Harvest.
Looking back, I really enjoyed the theories even if most didnt go anywhere. Must have been a trip for Boards Of Canada to see thousands of fans trying to decode these fragments.
Some theories were so epic. And even though getting people pumped for Inferno itself was the whole point, I’ll remember that little period before everything became official. When nobody quite knew what was happening and everyone was figuring it out together.
What did everyone convince themselves was happening before we actually knew?

Song Boards of Canada on Cosy Cafe?
This sounds a lot like Boards of Canada but I don't know which track. Any ideas? This randomly started playing on my TV after it was left idle for a bit

Discussion What other tracks from Inferno do you think would have worked as pre release singles? (3 max, excluding Prophecy at 1420 Mhz & Deep Time)
I'm curious about this. Choose 3 tracks from the album that you think would have been cool to have released as singles. This would be excluding Introit/Prophecy at 1420 Mhz and Deep Time since they are actual singles.
You can format them with a chronological order if you want as well (i.e. Arena Americanada as the 2nd single, then Naraka, then Into The Magic Land etc.)
**And because I can see the replies coming already; please do not leave a comment saying "oNe SiNgLe iS aLL wE nEeded!" This is a question purely for fun and as a hypothetical :)

Other Running With the Floating, Weightless Slowness - Kelpe
Ive listened to Kelpe since around '18 and always enjoyed the percussive, synth vibes he provides. When this album came out in 2020 during the grips of covid, it became my soundtrack to that period of time. Its doesn't necessarily fit BOC vibes in a traditional sense but the emotions it extracts is exactly what BOC does for me. Just figured I'd share in case others haven't been exposed or listened to Kelpe. Kel is an awesome guys as well, I messaged him on Twitter during covid and he was responsive, seeminly interested and appreciative of my strange obsession with this album.

Song You Retreat In Time And Space brings me to tears every time.
I don’t know what it is about the feeling of this song but something just resonates with me so deeply. The real bassline really brings out the feeling too.
And it leads into I Saw Through Platonia with such grace.
Still obsessing over this record hard. I’ve listened to it every day, often more than once, since it was released.

Discussion Societas x Tape - Fave Discoveries?
What’s your fave track or artist you discovered through the NTS mixtape?
My friend just posted this reel about Lena Platonos, and then when I listened to her I realised I recognised her voice from the Societas x Tape! Very cool that the bros included this influential female electronic artist on the mix.

Discussion What luck! Just stumbled upon an Inferno canvas
Yesterday, during a lunch walk at work in Leiden (The Netherlands), I popped in a nearby record store called Velvet. Just as I was about to leave the store, a large canvas between two vinyl crates caught my eye. I actually couldn't believe my eyes -- what a cool canvas of the latest Boards of Canada album!

Naturally, I asked the woman behind the counter if it was for sale. She walked with me to the canvas, hesitated for a moment, and asked what I was willing to pay for it. I asked the counter-question that seemed logical to me in a store: 'how much do you want for it?'' 'Twenty euros,'' she replied, and before I knew it, I had bought the canvas. I probably could have gotten a few euro's off, but twenty euros was well below what I had expected. Honesty compels me to say though that when I looked at the back of the canva with the saleswoman, I saw a note with a name on it. For a moment, I thought the name might belong to the creator of the canvas, but she contradicted that at checkout by saying that these types of canvases are supplied by the record label for promotional purposes. (I doubt that a bit, but anyway...) When I asked for the name on the note, the saleswoman said she didn't know what the note was for and that, should it be a buyer, it hadn't been paid for yet anyway. I paid, but it didn't feel fair. I took the canvas back to my workspace, but soon decided to google the name, get in touch, and offer the canvas. After all, that person had been here before, and I thought it was only fair to give him priority. I soon received a very nice reply -- yes, he had wanted to buy it, but hadn't heard anything back from the store for quite some time and had almost forgotten about it. In the meantime, he had gotten a nice poster of the Inferno album cover somewhere and was very pleased with it, so if I wanted the canvas, I could and we ould both be happy. So, I now have a beautiful canvas in my study that still needs to find a nice spot at home, but which I am already very happy with.
PS The person in question turned out to be a clocal film score composer who, in a recent interview i stumbled upon when googling, mentioned other quite obscure, such as Mother Earth’s Plantasia by Mort Garson, an album with music for plants.
PPS Sorry for the long post, but I'm just really happy with it!

Discussion I got my hands on a 2002 issue of German magazine Groove containing an interview with Boards of Canada titled "Music, Lies and Videoloops," which is not listed on bocpages.org
Do you know about this interview? It was conducted by Gregor Wildermann, who also interviewed BoC in 1997 – an interview titled "Hardware Addicts." This one is from 2002, from the Geogaddi era.
Rough ChatGPT translation:
BOARDS OF CANADA
Music, Lies and Videoloops
GROOVE Magazine — Issue 75, April/May 2002
Text: Gregor Wildermann
We waited. We were patient. We simply listened to Music Has the Right to Children again. And again. And perhaps a few more times after that.
Then there was an EP, a remix of "Poppy Seed" on Warp 10+3 and on the So Soon EP by Slag Boom Van Loon.
Still, we kept waiting, quietly hoping that Mike Sandison and Marcus Eoin would finally show mercy and release their album.
Now Boards of Canada from Scotland have finally done it. Geogaddi is here, running for 66 minutes and 6 seconds, and it works like a miraculous healing balm for your ears and mine.
Almost five years have passed since our last lengthy conversation. This time, they sent us six truths and one lie electronically...
Is it true that you haven't seen much daylight over the past two years?
Marcus: We locked ourselves away in our studio (an air-raid shelter) and wrote music for about 14 hours a day.
After such intensive work, the actual release of the CD almost feels like the end of a period of fasting, when you feel purified from within.
On the other hand, when we finished recording Geogaddi [December 2001], we decided to immediately start writing another album that would sound completely different.
Is it true that you have an almost endless amount of additional material piling up on your shelves and hard drives?
Mike: I'd say that for every track on Geogaddi, there are about ten tracks that didn't make it onto the album.
That doesn't necessarily mean they'll never be released, but when making the final selection, we really wanted to use only the tracks that would work together to make a good album.
So even some really good tracks were left out for the time being, and we're keeping open the possibility of releasing them at some point.
Is it true that the new album mainly appeals to flower children and health-food shop owners?
Mike: Our music definitely isn't supposed to be some kind of hippie noodling, and we still see a distinction between "hippyness" and "psychedelia".
For us, Geogaddi belongs more to the category of psychedelia in terms of its style.
Is it true that you don't really know what to do with computers?
Marcus: There are certainly some styles of music where computers have become indispensable.
Our musical beginnings were with instruments like guitar and piano, so when we're working, we don't automatically rush to a sequencer whenever we want to bring a musical idea to life.
Is it true that the album title "Geogaddi" is a combination of the Latin "Geo" (Earth) and the Indian "Gaddi" (child)?
Mike: The word refers to, and at the same time plays with, several words that actually exist.
We obviously wanted the album title to suggest something, because the music itself was intended to sound somewhat chaotic and undefined, while still having enough power to draw the listener in.
The title refers to two things that influenced us while writing the music, but I don't want to reveal anything more, because that would only rob the listener of their imagination.
Is it true that your music has been particularly influenced by films?
Marcus: For us, it's probably the visual style of certain films that provides the greatest inspiration.
We love classic films, especially science-fiction films from the 1960s and 1970s. And particularly the paranoid atmosphere of the 1970s, in films such as The Parallax View, Capricorn One, The Illustrated Man, and Logan's Run.
Then there are old television series from when we were children ourselves.
But there are also completely different influences. Mike is currently reading a book about Nikola Tesla, while I'm studying mathematical theories.
It's all connected somehow, and impressions from travelling also play an important role.
"The Beach at Redpoint" is one example, because the coastal scenery inspired us to create that track.
I've also been planning to publish books of my own in the future, but I still need to find the right time for that.
We still make our own short films, which we mainly use as visuals for our live performances.
But we also have plans for a longer, narrative feature film, and we'll soon be devoting our full attention to it.
And one final question: Is it true that the main ingredient of the Scottish national dish haggis is animal offal?
Marcus: I've heard so many false stories about haggis, but it's actually nowhere near as mysterious as people make it out to be.
It's an animal native to Scotland whose left front leg is slightly shorter, allowing it to run around mountain peaks in an anticlockwise direction.
They're either hunted or caught in traps, but I think the animal is almost extinct by now.
Personally, I prefer vegetarian haggis!
Geogaddi was released on Warp/Zomba.
EDIT: The Interview is now online and translated on bocpages.org

Discussion Geogaddi’s interludes are something to behold
The interludes on Geogaddi are all hits. They make me yearn for them to be so much longer (especially I Saw Drones) and yet, they’re perfect the way they are.
Personally, the best interlude out of them all is Diving Station. It sounds so sad yet feels so heavy. But then you got gems like I Saw Drones, which sounds like going backward into simpler times, Corisar, even though it barely changes, it’s still so relaxing and euphoric, and of course, Over The Horizon Radar, which is probably the saddest sounding one of them all.
And then you get the old brodcast ones. Dadelion and Energy Warning follow the same thing of being a sort of warning with soft pads behind it, which really works. Opening The Mouth is very creepy and yet it kind of works, A is to B as B is to C is deffinetly the best of these because is feels like flipping through actuall channels that replay happier memories.

Discussion Acts of Magic Discussion
Out of all their shorter songs (your Olsons, In The Annexes etc) this one is definitely one of the most dark and mysterious to me. I’ve always sort of felt a large Christ-theme on this album as a whole (not necessarily Christian, but a young messiah’s journey (which I could talk about at length but won’t here)), and this particular song to me always evokes what it may have felt like to witness Jesus’s miracles at work. The flies and the droning pulse specifically evoke images of Lazarus rising from the dead….imagine you’re just some guy in biblical times and you bear witness to something like that? Maybe you’d be like “wow!” Or maybe you’d be like “AAAAAAAAAAHH HOLY SHIT THAT GUY WAS DEAD”. I think some of that abject terror is captured in this song

Discussion Consensus on the I Saw Through Platonia music video?
So what's the consensus on the I Saw Through Platonia music video? Official? Unofficial?
My theory is that it was made by nonameno5, the person who made some of the most iconic unofficial BoC videos, including Everything You Do is a Balloon.
There's a still of that video at the end of Platonia, so I don't think it's a stretch.
EYDIAB's video is so well known that it has become the closest to an official video without being one, so I suspect that at some point the Bros contacted nonameno5.
From there, a collaboration between them is plausible.
What do you think?
