Since I've been taking up both sticky thread spots for the last while, I have been told to cut down how many I make.

Taking a page from /r/2007scape, this thread will act as a gateway for the 2 weekly threads I make. This will be a living document with the posts linked into. Please talk in those threads.

Maybe NT's just hate innocent people because they feel insecure

Just a morning thought, but I'm wondering if the reason people hate on autistic people so much is because of the common obsession with trying to follow the rules. And the reason is because they feel insecure about how they didn't follow the rules, and then project their own feelings on us, and assume we were judging them for not following the rules, simply by following them ourselves. This would also explain why people will sometimes hate us for simply existing.

For example (and these are made up names):

John might accuse Bob of thinking he's better than him. But Bob doesn't think he's better than John at all. John is the one that feels insecure and thinks Bob is better. And in this situation, John hasn't even said a word to Bob yet, and they don't even know each other, but John is blaming Bob for how he feels.

This kind of situation happens all the time where John might be an NT, and Bob might be autistic. But don't get me wrong, that can still happen in the opposite direction, where an autistic person could also be just as bad and do what John did in this example.

But reality is, NT's seem to be more aware of this, and are able to act a certain way to make someone feel less insecure about themselves. But an Autistic person doesn't understand social skills well enough to actually know how to do this.

Also, if I look back at my own memories, there was a time I was constantly being looked down on, and treated like I was doing something wrong, being falsely accused of all kinds of shit at work that just wasn't true about me. Everyone hated me because I was just some dude who did my job, and followed the rules.

Over the course of a year, things got so stressful with coworkers gagging up on me, that I finally crashed out and punched the wall, and got fired. But because of that event, people who know about it aren't judging me negatively anymore. Basically, because I made a mistake, they don't feel that insecurity about how they assume I think I'm better than them. And it's weird that my family who used to look down on me, suddenly thinks I'm a better person now, right after I punched the wall and got fired and somehow having done something stupid in the past is seen as being more mature.

Let's take another example. In the Bible, Jesus was perfect and never committed a sin. Yet people still crucified an innocent man on the cross.

So basically, some people tend to hate anyone who they think is more innocent than they are, because it makes them feel insecure.

Autistic people need to be ready for the oncoming societal change

Broader western society is succumbing to increasing geopolitical tensions, constant social upheaval and mounting debt crisis, among others. The overton window is becoming more receptive to extremist positions on all sides, such as racism, antisemitism and pseudo-eugenicist opinions, even (believe it or not) hatred of autistic people.

We will inevitably be caught up in the middle of this mess. With the collapse of high trust society and with the semblance of functioning institutions completely gone, we'll be at the mercy of anyone who wishes to cause us harm, as there will be nothing to keep them in check. In case of total societal collapse (which I sincerely hope it never comes to), the double empathy problem would be our biggest enemy. We could be excluded from our communities and be denied resources just under the pretext that people don't like us, that we give off a "bad vibe", especially if religiosity/superstition makes a comeback, which is very likely in this case (let's not forget Europeans thought autistic people were possessed during the middle ages).

My post might seem too far-fetched now, even delusional. But it might also be a premonition akin to Ferdinand Foch's, who knows. My appeal to fellow autists is to stick together and strengthen our communities to face any adversity. I am a firm believer that autistic unity will pave the way for a better future.

Do you watch everything with subtitles on?

I find subtitles genuinely essential for processing dialogue. Without them I miss half of what characters are saying even when the audio is perfectly clear.

Does the ignoring get worse with age? It seems that way.

Been ignored my entire life. Now I’m 29 and it seems to be getting worse. Everyone in my family older than me and even younger than me ignores me and talks over me. Now even my brother is doing it when he really didn’t before. I hate that my family thinks so little of me. Though my friends and coworkers ignore me too. I need to learn how to make this stop. Is it just apart of the social deficits we have with autism? It’s a very lonely existence. What’s the point if the ignoring and talking over/down to you and the anger toward you just for having autistic traits gets worse with age? Honestly? What’s the point? The only person who doesn’t ignore me is my therapist and he is literally PAID to listen to me. I can’t get people to listen unless I pay them? Really? What a miserable life to live.

Taking things too literally

• Upvotes

Something that often annoys me about myself is that I take phrases, especially in advertising, too literally and get mad about it.

Example: A Coffeeshop proclaims "The best coffee this side of Milan". My head is immediately launched into thinking that that’s rather unlikely and besides, that’s a very subjctive thing and what institution would give out a title like that. Also we're on a globe, so "this side of Milan" makes no sense because...

And then I have to force myself to stop because It's useless to get mad about thoughtlessly illogical marketing texts, writen by somebody who doesn't care. I guess stuff like that angers me because it feels like they are just blatantly lying.

Does anyone else here struggle with similar issues? It's not a big deal, but I have to be careful not to vocalize this stuff too much, because others really don't care about it and get frustrated... -_-

NT groups are an hierarchical echo chamber, insecure people making each other feel powerfull and at the same time rival against each other

• Upvotes

This was my experience growing up. As people start understanding themselves things change but still operate similarly it seems. What used to suprise me the most was whenever I recieved negative commens, if I attacked back it seemed like most agreed. They resent each other while also wanting to fit in a group.

They don't even know each other. Most they talk about is surface level. They talk behind each others backs.

Most of them don't like to think for themselves. They choose the easy way of believing the thoughts of someone higher in the hierarchy. And the people who show themselves in that way(confident high ego) are usually morrally corrupt. I still can't figure out if they are playing a role or acting like themselves. Why do they not think about the situation they are in.

I was an innocent child that wanted to understand the world but now I'm insufferable and difficult to be around.

I am not saying all NTs are like this. This is observations of people I was around. And my view is probably influenced by not being accepted and left out.

Who else sucks at following instructions?

Ever since I was a kid I could not follow the teachers instructions for any kind of crafting thing or science thing or handy around the house thing (my dad would get so impatient he’d just do all my tasks (they did need to get done) and now he gets mad at me for not being able to do them and I'm like: “maybe if you ever let me.” I don't have a learning disability, but I do not think like normal people. I can't just look at something or hear something once or do something once and get it.

I am level one autistic (aspergers), but I wonder if that's really why?

Who else?

Support always welcome.

I'm done man

In a world where mental health is now more accessible than ever, why do we still have the mentality of sacrificing our mental wellbeing for corporates or coworkers that don't care about us? For the last few weeks, I've experienced the worst burnout of my life. The only good thing that happened to me was that I got the cold before the weekend 'cause I knew that at least I get to have a good excuse to rest for more than just 2 days, even if I wasn't physically healthy. I became so depressed that I stopped caring about my hygiene or praying to Allah and started wishing that I could sleep one day and never wake up. How do you guys live like this?

The struggle with understanding social cues in movies and TV

I often find myself rewinding scenes in movies or TV shows because I completely miss subtle social cues that are apparently obvious to everyone else. Like a character will react strongly to something that was said or done and I just genuinely did not see it coming at all. I have to rewatch to try and figure out why they reacted that way. It's like a whole layer of communication just goes right over my head. Does anyone else experience this too and how do you deal with it

Not trying to complain…but do you also get the feeling that no one cares or even thinks about being courteous and thoughtful in public/at their jobs anymore?

• Upvotes

Rushing past you when walking without moving away until the very last second. Seeing you singing in your car in an empty lot and parking right next to you…often remaining in their car for several minutes (maybe I should take it as a compliment…but I am practicing and get embarassed/slightly angry). Pulling out in front of you and then honking at you because they were too stupid to realize they forgot to use a turn signal.

Getting nervous when getting blood taken at the doctor‘s office after having almost passed out the last time I went in due to someone poking around for a full minute looking for a vein without success and making a face and having a nurse tell me, as if I were an infant „I won‘t make you do this“. I also showed her a visible vein this time and she said „I like this one“ and placed the needle elsewhere. I mean, that‘s fine if there is a valid reason why you‘d choose another vein…but it is my body and my patient experience…so explain it to me. Otherwise it comes off as being rude and dismissive.

At all of my recent workplaces there has been little to no pride in one‘s work and only a thin shred of dignity given to workers. Oftentimes, the way management spoke to workers (and customers) was inconsiderate, to say the least.

These things are certainly not new. But I certainly never experienced them on a daily basis until recently. People used to at least TRY to be intelligent, thoughtful human beings. They failed. But they tried.

One positive thing, however, is that I have met many helpful and kind workers in every industry. The problem is that they have no say in how anything is run.

Sometimes I feel like the universe is reading my mind or something. READ POST BODY

• Upvotes

I’m COMPLETELY BLIND, have aspergers and a heart lung condition and sometimes it feels as if the universe is reading my mind.

I’ve had so many examples of this that if I typed them all, it would be time for Jesus to come back to earth before I finished the list.

I’ll give you the most weird example, so ever since age nine when I first went to the school for the blind, they gave us basic sack lunches on the bus on our bus rides home on Fridays, and back to the dorm on Sundays.

They consisted of a sandwich, meat, cheese and bread, some kind of a chip, and some kind of a dessert, nothing gourmet but not gaggy either.

The dessert had always been some kind of a cookie like famous Amos or maybe teddy grahams, but one year something else happened.

One day when I was fifteen, I opened my sack lunch and for my dessert, I had a jello cup.

This felt like the universe was reading my mind because JUST a few days prier, I got hooked on the word gelatinous so when I found that jello cup chilling in the bottom of that paper bag, I was like JACKPOT!!!

It felt like the universe was reading my mind, I mean part of me knew they weren’t doing it on purpose, the cafeteria ladies didn’t care about us or our new words.

They were something that rhymes with runt and can, in some contexts be used to mean a disagreeable female, and they acted like they got paid three cents a day so I knew they weren’t doing it on purpose but it felt like there was some mind-reading going on.

living in a simulation, feeling like an external being who was not born into this world

It’s been a while since I’ve been around here, but honestly, this is something that has haunted me for as long as I can remember. Does anyone else get the feeling that they’re living in a simulation simply because people are so damn superficial and boring? There are very few people who actually want to have real conversations and by that, I don’t mean just chatting about trivial nonsense, but rather exploring more dreamlike or existential topics. I’m not trying to sound like an intellectual; I just want to be understood and share experiences. I really enjoy hearing other people’s perspectivesfor instance, on how this rigid, systematic world messes with those who are different, such as autistic individuals or people from other marginalized communities. Honestly, I’d love to talk to someone who shares this feeling. It’s not just that I feel like I’m in a simulation or that I’m hyper-aware of everything around me; it’s also that I feel like I don’t belong in this world. Sometimes I feel like it would be better if I just ceased to exist or simply faded away not necessarily that I want to die, but I just feel like I don’t fit in. I don’t belong to this reality. I know it probably sounds silly, but I can’t help feeling this way every single damn day. Lately, people have been irritating me, too. I’m curious if anyone else shares this perspective or has ever had feelings like these, Forgive me if anything I said sounds stupid,,,

hate how my entire life revolves around work

I work a full-time job and also freelance. I'm good at what I do, especially when it comes to technical work, problem-solving, and creating systems.

i hate how my workload is so big. i wake up at 5am and work till 6pm most weekdays.

I wake up, lift weights at home, work at home then go to sleep at 7:30.

I maybe have about 30 minutes of free time on weekdays.

Good news is my weekends are zero work, zero chores, all play.

i've also had unpleasant bosses. Micrmanagement, passive agressive behavior, being humiliated in group meetings.

i just want a simple, peaceful life. One job and no side hustle. More Time for my hobbies.

Does anyone else struggle with this??

Burnout

Cried for the first time in a year. So numb it hurts. Extremely touch starved but hate physical contact. I don't have the strength to talk to anyone in person. Been isolating myself for a few weeks. Weak, frail and derealization is hitting hard. Thoughts of self harm are back after two years of absence. Desperately need someone to talk to. Reaching out to my friends seems like something i should do but i don't want to bother them. I rot in bed after returning home. Haven't been to the gym consistently in weeks. The only time i feel mostly fine is weekends (which is why im writing this now) but when monday rolls around i begin to loose grip again. Want to take a break but ive been doing nothing so it feels like i don't deserve it. Ive been failing multiple subjects and the pressure is hard to manage.

A friend has been asking if everything is alright between us. I don't know why, but im avoiding them a lot. They haven't done anything, yet i don't feel comfortable around them anymore.

Feeling very lost. I know ill find a way out of this headspace, but it's hard to be myself right now.

Seeking Creative Product Names and Slogans for a Social Enterprise Project

Hello everyone!
I’m a Vietnamese university student currently working on a business project that combines social entrepreneurship with community support for autistic individuals.
Our project aims to create products featuring artwork inspired by paintings created by autistic individuals. Our planned products include keychains, artbooks, and postcards. Through this initiative, we hope to celebrate their creativity, share their artistic perspectives, and raise awareness of autism through meaningful products.
We’re currently looking for creative and meaningful **product names and slogans** that reflect our project’s mission and values.
If you have any ideas or suggestions, we would greatly appreciate your input! We’re open to all kinds of inspiration, whether it’s a name for the overall product collection, individual products, or a slogan that captures the spirit of our project.
Thank you so much for your time and support!

struggling with change

Anyone else here really struggle switching between places and adapting to different environments than the ones you’re used to and you find comfort in? Growing up I realized it’s really hard for me to sleep in a bed that’s not my own no matter how comfortable the bed is and even at my friends house or my partners house. I hate adapting to new environments. I hate having to relearn my surroundings like for an example something i’m struggling with lately is I used to live with my partner of 2 years so I was used to the same routine/environment. We broke up for a period of time and we’re back together now but i’m back to just sleeping over again and also on top of that he moved so where he’s currently living is in the middle of my town so there’s more noise at night when trying to sleep whereas his previous neighborhood was very quiet and its really hard, i hate having to start a new job to relearn things but also for the environment too. It’s so debilitating to me. If anyone understands please let me know you’re experiences

If anyone wants to talk feel free to DM me <3

Why would a guy tell everyone he likes you, get jealous when others try to approach you, gossip about you to whole class except you and your friend who are both isolated, follow you around and never confess?

He will get a gf, dump her chase you around never confess tell all guys not to sit next to you and talk to you and they gladly did it and then he will get back to gf then dump her then get back and then intimidate you and when you stand up to him almost laying hands on him he goes victim mood and the class who knew all he did for 7 months defend him. They pressure gf to take him back and then he dumps gf refuses to sit near her and even makes her outcast and then she follows him around and he still rejects her and he stalks you and the classes cheers but he still never confessed.

In fact summer came again all the guys mocked you for coming to same modules and excluded you ostraziced you and didn't want to sit near you or even behind you. Then he didn't come his gf broke down his friends tried to bully you. Then you left at last, 15 months it took.

Why? Have you ever seen something similar?

Maturity

So when I was younger, people would call me more mature than my age. But growing up, this saying suddenly shifted to the total opposite. I have now built up communication trauma from saying stuff unintentionally that others perceive as offensive or rude. It has even reached the point where I was called dumb and the r word. I'm not diagnosed yet btw. Does anyone have experiences similar to this?

Have any other very high functioning men also attracted older women on apps?

I’ve heard in relationships for high functioning men usually it’s a woman also who’s ND or a someone who plays a nurturing “older” role.

I have been getting more dates with older women now that I re entered online dating.

Has anyone seen or experienced this too?

All my first dates have been with older women

Anyone else have a siblings like relationship with there opposite gender best friend?

Im 18M my friend is 15F

(ik it's a bit of a adge gap but we are very platonic i really even tap her shoulder and her parent trust me)

over the years we've developed a nice sibling like relationship both our siblings are not the nicest so basically we have turned into sole siblings (i don't know if that's even a real terminology but it's the only one I can think of) I treat her how I would treat a younger sister if I had one, pretty sure she she's me as like a big brother as well

I am very protective over her multiple times when people have hurt her (mentally) and i "scold" them make them apologise ect.

we also have a lot of of the same medical problems (creepy how similar like 75% of my medical problems she has as well even rare and un related ones might actually be related somewhere) and because im 3 years older i let her know what each appointment scan ect is like.

We share a lot of interest photography trains plans stuff like that i tough her most if her photography skills.

We even get mistaken as siblings in public sometimes

Just wish we could hang out more but our schedules rarely line up.

Dose anyone else have a relationship like this
