I’ve had an ATV HD in the past and wanted a 4k to go with an upcoming TV purchase, but I think I’ve effectively been priced out of this product. Being able to connect my AirPods easily was nice for a couple rare scenarios, but the main draw was simply the great ad free interface and the snappy feel. I recently learned about some of the cool launchers you can put on an Android TV, many directly inspired by the Apple TV.
I’m thinking this could be a great no cost alternative, and there might even be an advantage to it if I can easily access my Antenna channels without switching out of the launcher like I would have to with the ATV.
Obviously the Apple experience is hard to match, but for people who have used both, how close is it and would you consider it if you were someone on the outside without an ATV right now?
Waiting to buy the TV on Black Friday but scouring ebay for reasonably priced 4k Gen 3s and even 2s and they are extremely hard to come by and starting to think this might just be better. I’m currently coming from an Onn Roku tv so basically anything I move to will feel probably like a massive upgrade in speed/UI.
