I have 1st generation and 3rd generation 4k. I watch my library locally with infuse. the 3rd gen, I have a stereo pair with 2 2nd generation HomePods.

I don't particularly feel the need to upgrade either. Almost my whole library is 4k/DV/ with HDR10/HDR10+ fallback. Even the 1st generation plays everything perfectly, sometimes just a bit slower skipping forward. Don't really notice the HDR10+ missing because it's rare something is hdr10+ without dolby vision.

I would only consider moving the 1st generation out of rotation if it means I could add some more HomePods for more channels properly.... but even still, price probably doesn't justify it. Any chance the older models, even just the 2rd gen, will support it? Or will this be limited to the hardware of the new 4th gen?

The right side of the touchpad ring is starting to become intermittent and require more effort to get it to work properly. Typical of a remote button that's been overworked and I expect I use that more than any other button on the remote. So, I need a new remote and was wondering if I should just get a new remote from Apple or get a third party remote.

I don't talk to my remote so don't need voice activation and I don't use the touchpad as a touchpad (just as a button). I'm kind of leaning toward the One for All at the moment.

I'm using a 4k gen Apple TV and I have audio on all streaming services except Apple plus. Unless I start a show on my iPhone and airplay it to the Apple TV. Then I have sound. Any idea what's going on? TY

It looks awfully pixelated.

I get the message To play in HD you must move the entire window onto a built in display or a display port that supports hdcp.

The thing is, my monitor is HDCP-enabled. This issue happens both on the AppleTv app and on the browser.

At the beginning I though the issue was that I had a dual monitor setup, but I disconnected the second monitor and the issue persists.

Is Apple going to start using the AV1 codec in the Apple movie store or on the Apple TV streaming service? If so would it actually noticeably improve the picture quality? If it would I would upgrade to the new 4th Gen. Don’t really care about both the 4 HomePod surround or the new chip unless the chip can somehow improve picture quality.

3rd Generation found at Walmart. They didn't have them on the shelves. Had to ask the employee if they had any and hiding behind the register locked up were 2 - 64gb & about 4 - 128gb.

Hello. I am a bit frustrated as we (Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, etc.) finally got Apple TV but LG and Samsung TVs are either not showing the app in the appstore at all or once you get it, it doesn't let you sign in due to region lock. The app works flawlessly on phones and I assume the web. How many months does it need to pass for them to finally communicate this to LG and Samsung?

I was just watching some football on my Apple TV when it cut to black out of nowhere. At first I thought it was a broadcast issue until my TV displayed it's "not connected" screen. I've tried unplugging for 30 seconds, using different power outlets, and nothing will get it to turn back on. The LED indicator doesn't even turn on. If anyone knows what's going on and how I can fix it that'd be greatly appreciated. I can't remember what model it is but it's a bit of an older one, not 4K.

I was fortunate enough to snag this one last night and received it today. Check your local Walmarts through the app for $129 and $149 prices. Search “Apple TV 4K”. If they don’t show any at that price, change locations and do the search again. If you’re lucky enough, they will show them at that price by a nearby Walmart and no delivery fee. Happy hunting!

I get the disappointment in raised price, it’s absurd. But that’s today’s world. What is all this pass through talk about? Audio decoding? It may just not be something I’m concerned with currently since if I got a 4th gen it’s just going in the main living room. I couldn’t tell you what quality the audio is bc I’ve got kids, our Bose sound system stays on all channel stereo just so we can hear, period. Is it something that would be affected if I finally get a plex server setup? I really dont get it at this point and am looking to learn.

Has anyone open sourced a jellyfin player for appletv? I ordered the new one. I plan on side loading a vibe coded player but if there’s an existing starting point that would be great. Yea I know there are other paid options out there. I don’t want that. I want control over the source so I’m not bound by other devs updates/changes

TLDR; Can you pair a set of Bluetooth headphones AND a pair of a AirPods at the same time on the new model?

I know you can do two sets of AirPods (which is what we do now). My wife is hard of hearing and this is the best way for her to hear the dialog. Unfortunately they have started irritating my ears and I was going to switch a bone conduction set of headphones (I know, the quality will suck).

I'm looking for an Apple TV app with an experience like the map in iPhone Photos: move around a map with the Siri Remote, choose an area, and browse the photos taken there on the big screen. Ideally it would read my existing iCloud Photos library without exporting pictures or arranging them into separate albums first.

I asked in r/ApplePhotos and someone suggested 4K Photo. Its listing mentions interactive GPS maps, but I haven't tried it yet. Has anyone used it recently, or found another app that handles this well?

I'm especially interested in how it feels with the remote and a large library. Can you start from the map and discover photos in an area, or does the map mainly show the location of a photo you've already opened?

There's a lot of black crush throughout the movie, particularly in scenes that don't take place in bright daylight. This goes way beyond what I'd consider an artistic choice. Large parts of faces disappear into the shadows, and anything that isn't properly lit turns into black with little to no detail left.

I know the color grading is much darker than in most MCU movies, but I don't remember it looking anywhere near this bad when I saw it in Dolby Cinema, even in 3D.

Watched via the Apple TV app on an Apple TV 4K (3rd gen) connected to an LG C1 OLED.

I have a Samsung Q930F soundbar and just got an Apple TV (previously used a Google TV and LG streaming apps) and the decoded PCM sound is very quiet and flat - I have to increase volume by 50% for any non-Atmos content.

Adding my PS5 to the mix, I’m needing constant significant volume changes between content and devices.

I’m aware that setting constant Audio Connection on the ATV fixes the volume issue, but then I lose out on using the surround up-mixing on the soundbar.

Is this just the deal using an Apple TV with a soundbar? The Apple TV is easily the best streaming box I’ve used otherwise.

We now have a new Apple TV 4K which is as powerful as Macbook Air M1 or perhaps even better. but one is used for Infuse, Netflix, Prime video etc whereas other is used as a full fledged computer.

why do one needs so powerful tv box. More realistic approach would be a new Apple TV 4K neo or stick or something with S11 chip. what you say guys? does this makes sense?

Hey guys, Apple TV 4K 4th gen was announced with a bunch of features I really don't care about, but the price tag is insane. It's more than double what I paid for the 3rd gen when it launched.

So I'm wondering: is there any device that's properly polished, native 4K (not AI upscaling), Dolby Atmos, genuinely useful features, no ads, and that beats the new Apple TV? Does anything like this exist?

I had to move my Apple TV 4K to the loft since it was used for Apple Fitness and the 1080P Apple TV was not working for the fitness correctly. That meant I was using the old one in the great room. I was waiting for the new one, but didn’t want to spend the $300. After seeing that Best Buy had the Gen 3 in stock for 15 min yesterday, I missed it and decided to check the Walmart app. I was able to find a new 128 GB Gen 3 for $149. I didn’t believe it since that was the original price a few months ago, but decided to order it since they only had one in stock and it was shipped and sold at Walmart. I guess it was a Walmart nearby. I actually got it delivered today and it was what I ordered. I would recommend checking often if you don’t mind the third generation.

I’m on Roku Ultra and have no idea what changed. Game recaps are still 60 frames, but live games lately have been notably choppier. Same hardware and settings. The quality was incredible a couple months ago.

Anyone know what’s up?
