Discussion Which civ do you like the most and why?
I have several favorites, but if I had to pick one, it would be the English. Sure, they're considered C or D tier by pros, are really bad at Fast Castle, and have a weak economy until the late Castle Age.
But they are immune to Dark Age cheese. They have an extremely safe 2 TC build that you can use against every civ, no matter what they do. They have the best farm transition in the game. They do not have to worry about running out of gold in the late game. Their macro mechanic is very easy to use. Their defense is S-tier. Their late game is really good, and it's not locked into a specific unit type.

Discussion My micro is terrible, how do I improve it ? Any mod/game mode/ that I can practice?
it's not about A-move, but rather, how to fight with
Small, even fights: a few units against a few units of the same type (e.g a 4 spearmen vs 4 spearmen in dark age, when my opponent and I are both templar knight. All my spearmen died, but opponents dies zero.)
Large, mixed-army fights: big battles where both armies have several unit types and each side has counters to the other’s units. I gets wiped out completely under such situation.
My short cut,
F1: select all infantry
F2: select all ranger
F3: select all calvary
F4: select all siege
Q: select all infantry on the screen
E: select all ranger on the screen
F: select all calvary on the screen
C: select all siege on the screen
Z: select healer
A Attack-Move
average APM is around 120~140

Discussion Question for Rus players
Hey all, I’ve seen many Rus players in here so hopefully I get some good answers. I really like the playstyle of Rus, but I’m struggling on knowing how many hunting cabins I should have down? Like endgame age 4, how many should I have down. Any other Rus tips are welcome. Thanks.

Discussion Do you think PS5 will ever get to pre-order the DLC?
I bought my roomates Series S for like 50 bucks 2 years ago just to be able to play AOE4, loved it so when it was released on PS5 I was pretty hyped. I generally do not agree with pre-order but seems like it's a safe bet for Relic entertainment i haven't been let down yet.
My question is does anyone know if ill be able to pre-order dlcs in the future at some point or why they even block my ability to? It doesn't make sense to me and sometimes I like to pre-order dlcs to help with budgeting at the end of the month/get it out of the way type deal.
I don't have alot of experience or knowledge of how preorders work (I tend to be against them at all cost) but was wondering if anyone knows why sony users cant.

Discussion Shinobi (ninja) for the Japanese can use Shunshin (teleportation) to teleport over walls
The Shinobi are a heavily underrated and overlooked unit. People think walls keep them safe because if someone starts attacking it, you'll get notified and then have time to run over.
But guess what?
Using the Shunshin ability, Shinobi can actually teleport OVER walls.
Your opponent will absolutely sh*t bricks if they see you inside their base or escape outwards.
You're welcome.

Discussion Golden Horde: Kharash Only Army - Am I Missing something or is that dumb
I play Golden Horde pretty regularly, but recently switched back to Malian.
I was playing a Golden Horde player, and my heart sank when he amassed a massive army of only Kharash.
For a second I was horrified- I thought to myself, "Am I missing something?" but every time he did this I cut through most of his army (to much losses of mine).
Overall the guy didn't seem to know what he was doing or understand the goal of the game if your opponents are getting a sacred site victory is to capture that sight back. But the guy went with only Kharash, no siege, no archers, nothing.
So this leads me to a question- is there some benefit to a purely Kharash army that I'm missing that maybe this guy just didn't know how to execute?

Discussion Help with stuttering in AOE4 campaigns - on multiple PCs and a Steam Machine
I've been struggling with insane stuttering with AOE4's campaigns on three (!) different PCs:
7800X3D/4090
5800X/3080
Steam Machine
Even on my 7800X3D/4090 PC, some missions, like the one I'm trying to play (Great Stand on the Ugra River of the Rus campaign), stutter like mad every half a second or so, going from my global fps cap of 157 (~6.3ms frametime) to regular 16ms and much higher frametime spikes. Nothing ever feels smooth.
I thought it would be a Windows thing, or something wrong with my PC setup, but the same frametime spikes happen on the Steam Machine, which is bizarre. Campaign is basically unplayable due to these performance problems. All my drivers are up to date, and heck, even if they weren't, the Steam Machine should serve as a control in this situation given it's an immutable system, and it's still stuttering like mad.
The Art of War Late Siege tutorial is another one that comes to mind that suffers from the same problem of regular stutters/frametime spikes. Anybody else have similar issues?
Discussion New Unit Proposal: Resurgent Knight
The following is the proposal for a new unit inspired by the Konnik from aoe2.
The Resurgent Knight starts as a Knight type unit which can conditionally turn into a Man at Arms type unit.
The unit would have 2 seperate health pools: HP1 (Horse), HP2 (MAA)
- Damage from spearman (and similar units) would be directed to one pool (HP1)
- Other sources of damage would be directed to the other pool (HP2)
If HP1 reaches 0 and HP2 is still positive, the unit turns into a Man At Arms type unit with the remaining health.
Do you think such a unit could work in AOE4? I didn't specify the numbers as they could always be adjusted for balance and it could even take 2 population space if needed.

Discussion FFA Cheaters
I'm a causal player who enjoys a good FFA, but damn near every game there's an obvious map hacker or premade teams. I'm guessing they have basically no anti cheat system, but its completely ruining the game mode. How sad do you have to be to cheat in a for fun unranked game mode honestly?? Any attempts for better anti cheat or banning cheaters going on at all? Im close to giving up on this game for good.

Discussion To Golden Horde mains
I’m trying to master the Golden Horde—it’s a new civ for me, and I need some tips, especially for 2v2 and 3v3 team games. If you could share your thoughts, I’d like to know:
What’s the main strategy? 2TC, FC (Fast Castle), or 1TC feudal agro?
Which units or unit compositions do you do the most, and why?
Which stone upgrades economic and military should I prioritize?
- Are Kipchaks any good—is it worth investing in them?
These are my main questions; I’m really enjoying playing with this civ!

Drama I simply can't win anymore
I’m a father now. I just got back home after 6 days in the hospital for the birth of my son. Now, I have a newborn at home. I go days without playing, and when I finally do get a chance, I can’t seem to win a single match anymore. Thanks, AoEIV, those nearly 400 hours of gameplay were the best :)
Sorry, just needed to vent

Discussion Help with a setting
I like to have the options not to center the visual on the productions Buildings when i want to queue units but at the same time when i select some villager currently working on some resource id like to center the visual on him. However these two mechanics are regulated by the same "find and browse Buildings and units" in the "controls" tab of the settings. Is there any way to work around that?
