Advice/Help Butane Refill Question

Good morning everyone! I have a brief question for refilling my butane insert. I know first I bleed it, then i make sure both the insert and butane can are level and upside down, pressing into the port for 5-ish seconds.

My question is where people say to “top it off” for another 3 seconds after that. It seems like pressing down again with the tip of the butane can releases all of the butane i just filled it with, instead of adding the last little bit to top it off. Thanks!

Collection Collection software — looking for input from fellow collectors!

Hi everyone,

For the past few months I’ve been building Keepzer: collection software made by a collector, for collectors.

The tools I tried were slow, clunky, or too rigid. Whether you collect lighters, watches, coins, toys, or something nobody’s heard of, I figured I wasn’t the only one. So I built what I was missing.

What already works:

  • Custom cards: design your own fields and layout for any type of item
  • Photos and files: receipts, certificates, and manuals stay with their piece
  • Rapid add: drop in photos, type a name, hit Enter. A whole box in minutes
  • Excel import: bring your existing spreadsheet
  • Dashboard: what you paid, what it’s worth, what you made, and where it came from
  • Cinema mode: show off your collection in a full-screen 3D carousel
  • Emergency plan: a clear overview for your family of what you own, its value, and how to sell it

Coming next: a date decoder (Zippo, Case, Buck, later Victorinox) that translates a date code into a year based on real information, a social side to share pieces and follow collectors, and maybe a shared knowledge base.

Where you can help: Keepzer will be free, and I need your input before and after launch to make it the best collection software. So what do you collect, what frustrates you about tracking it, and what would make you switch? Want to be an early tester? Let me know.

Follow along (free) on Substack 👉 https://keepzer.substack.com, or just send me a message. Every idea gets read, and plenty will end up in Keepzer.

I bought this at Harley-Davidson of Charleston, SC in 2004. Still looks like a mirror but this angle hides my phone and shows a little character. L 03 … I’m curious how many more are out there.

Zippo test runs and oddballs

Over 30 years of collecting and 26 years of attending shows, and swap meets in Bradford, i’ve had the opportunity to r a lot of interesting and unusual Lighters. I haven’t always had the funding to take advantage of these opportunities, but one thing that I was always able to do was find Lighters that were subtly different than the standard production models. These were typically done as test, models or short runs and often taken home by employees which would end up being sold by them or their family is at the shows and occasionally in other places like eBay. It provided me away to collect things that I knew were truly rare and unusual without spending four figures every time I found one.

A lot of them go against the commonly held timelines of when Zippo started doing certain things. Some of them are just regular production designs done on finishes They were never commercially available in.

I thought I would try to show some of these maybe once or twice a week as long as people find it interesting, so we’ll see how this goes.

First up is a 1971 sports series golfer but with an experimental bead blast finish. The surface on the front and back has a soft satin finish as opposed to standard brushed chrome. I’ve surprisingly managed to come across quite a few lighters in this finish. The second lighter has the same bead blast finish, but with one stripe of high polished chrome down the center, which makes it easier to see the difference between the finishes.

Show and Tell Looks like Zippo has stopped the production of the No. 350 Engine Turned after a record run of 79 years since 1947. A truly enduring design. I no longer see this one being sold at zippo.com nor Zippo's official ebay store.

First released in 1947, it's been likened to an elegant evening clothes with space for a monogram, reflecting the trends at the time. I love the old world and bygone eras. Might be good to hold on to this if Zippo will no longer be making it. It looks like the No. 350 Engine Turned has reached the end of its product lifecycle just as the Ultralite Zippo. But the latter, the Ultralite, is a much younger design, I think from 1978 or 79.

Discussion Street Chrome 207 vs. Classic Brushed Chrome 200

Hey everyone, has anyone here chosen between these two? So far, I've read that the Street Chrome 207 is slippery.

I'm aiming for a silver finish, something with a kind of "used" look that will age the best over time.

Show and Tell FOR THE PURISTS: Zippo in its unadorned state. It gives you less so you could get so much more. With no adornments to distract you, giving more focus on the Zippo itself. LESS DISTRACTIONS, MORE ZIPPO. 🔥

The engravings on the back tell a story of a high-level official presentation between two branches of the United States Armed Forces:

  • The Recipient: Maj. Gen. R. H. Anthis, USAF (Major General Rollen Henry Anthis). He was a highly decorated U.S. Air Force General who played a massive role in the early stages of the Vietnam War as commander of the 2nd Air Division. [1]
  • The Presenter: RADM W. H. House, USN (Rear Admiral William H. House). He was a distinguished U.S. Navy Admiral.
  • The Unit: COMCARDIV FOUR (Commander Carrier Division Four). This was Rear Admiral House's official command title. Carrier Division Four operated major aircraft carriers in the U.S. Navy's Atlantic Fleet, including the famous USS Forrestal. [1]

Military records show both men holding these exact ranks and interacting together in high-level operations around 1968–1970, making this a formal token of appreciation presented from a Navy Carrier Group Commander to an Air Force Major General. [1]
