Hey Yakima! Washington Poison Center (aka poison control) here. We're working on some educational materials around rattlesnake bites-- how to prevent them, what to do if you are bit, etc. At the poison center, we treat around 30 snake bites each year. Usually bites are from rattlesnakes in the area, but sometimes it's people with pet venomous snakes.
Can you help us out by sharing what you've seen and what you think you should do if someone is bitten? Please answer these questions for us! [we got this approved by the mods, btw]
1.) Have you seen any rattlesnakes around your area? If so, where?
2.) Do you know anyone that has been bitten by a snake? Do you know if it was a venomous or nonvenomous snake? What did they do once they were bitten?
3.) What would you do if you were with someone who had been bitten by a snake?
4.) Do you own a venomous snake? If so, tell us what snake(s) you have. Have you ever been bitten?
And, so we aren't leaving you hanging with no safety tips, here's our blog from this summer on snake safety: https://www.wapc.org/insights/ready-set-sssssummer-snake-safety/

Rudeness levied towards users or moderators will result in at a minimum a removal of your post or comment, and at maximum may result in a ban depending on the moderators disposition in the matter, and the degree to which the rudeness is demonstrated. This includes calling people bots.
Expect bans moving forwards.

Glad to see everyone focused on the important things this election cycle… (sarcasm)
Gas prices, affordability, and inflation are the top priority not this ‘culture war’

Is there anywhere besides Safeway and popeys/KFC that have real fried chicken? Not wings, not tenders, but actual fried chicken from a restaurant?
I have been looking and seems like it doesn't exist anywhere.
Thanks for any tips!

I volunteer for the Political Integrity Project, and we work on spreading the word on corporate PAC spending, super PACs, stock holdings, and donation sizes. I've made versions of these posters which can be easily printed and/or posted online. All voters deserve integrity and should know about financial integrity. Spread the word! More at integrityindex.us, or for the official route, the Federal Elections Committee at fec.gov
Happy Wednesday, friends! We've got 25 things on the calendar today, here are just a few:

I don’t mean to be rude by asking this. I used to play hockey in Spokane and have been wanting to play hockey now living in Ellensburg. I’ve seen where the ice rink is and also have heard it’s not the safest neighborhood (again I’m sorry if this is misinterpreted) I would love to check out the rink, but I don’t wanna risk my car getting broken into when going to play hockey.

Hi everyone, so my grandma is in need of someone to help her regain some strength. She has a spine issue, I thiiiink its a herniated disc or a disc that is deteriorating, she tried to have surgery for it but they found putting her under was too much for her body to handle. Over the last year or two she has been moving less and less and taking pain medications that help mask the pain but also make her sick and partially sedated, which is causing even more weakness. My mom told me that recently shes looking frail and that she's not sure how much longer she can last like this. My grandma is a very proud woman and hates receiving or asking for help. I am starting a new job soon and hoping that maybe finding some physical therapy for her will be somewhat afforable.
Looking for any suggestions of some very low-level intensity therapists or some advice. TIA

Families in Washington are stretched and stressed by skyrocketing living costs. Too many families cannot find affordable housing or childcare and face impossible decisions like whether to skip a doctor's visit or not fill a prescription due to increasing healthcare costs.
We worry about our kids' future, and how they are doing in the midst of a youth mental health crisis spurred on by unhealthy doses of social media, among other factors.
With massive cuts to healthcare and social services by the Trump administration, it’s more important than ever that our schools are a healthy, safe space for our children to learn, socialize and thrive physically, emotionally and academically.
But now, not one, not two, but three political initiatives on our ballot this election threaten to increase the risk of harm while cutting resources available to support kids. Backers of these measures are playing politics and putting kids in harm’s way.
With our 3.7 million members across the country, Moms Rising is fighting these MAGA initiatives. To protect children, here’s what you should know:
• Initiative 645, sponsored by Brian Heywood, a multimillionaire hedge fund manager, would give a tax cut to the state's richest 1% by repealing the "millionaires tax." Despite Heywood’s attempt to hide the fiscal impact statement from appearing on the ballot with this measure, he lost in court.
Voters need to understand the impact of repealing the millonaires tax would be the loss of billions of dollars that are meant for public schools, childcare, free school meals for many K-12 students, tax credits for working families, and tax cuts for most small businesses. No wonder I-645 is opposed by thousands of teachers at the Washington Education Association, the Children’s Alliance, the League of Women Voters and many more.
Initiative 001 is being sold as “parents’ rights,” but, if approved by voters, it would weaken parents’ rights by removing immediate parental notification if their kid is the victim of a crime at school. It would also put child abuse victims at greater risk, and force schools to “out” LGBTQ+ kids to unsupportive families.
According to school counselors and nurses, this measure will worsen student mental health by discouraging students from seeking help from a trained, trusted adult at school. That’s why I-001 is opposed by the Washington State PTA, the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, school counselors and nurses, and law enforcement officers.
I-638 is the most extreme MAGA initiative of its kind in the U.S. Contrary to the sponsor's message about protecting girls’ sports, this initiative’s impact would be to discourage girls from playing sports. I-638 means invasive sex inspections for girls who want to play elementary, middle and high school sports. Boys are exempt.
The measure is a knockoff of Elon Musk’s $100 million campaign vilifying vulnerable trans kids to distract voters from the real issues we are all concerned with. As a result, I-638 would coerce tens of thousands of school-age girls into humiliating and medically unnecessary exams each year, just to exclude 5-10 trans girls from playing school sports with their friends. This initiative is also strongly opposed by the Washington State PTA, Washington State Nurses Association, League of Women Voters, and more than 100 family doctors and pediatricians.
As a mother of three and passionate advocate for all children, I urge you to vote no, no and no on initiatives 645, 001 and 638 when you receive your ballot in the mail in just a couple of weeks.

Hi!
I’m in my very early twenties and I’m far away from my college for longer than I thought, so it’s been difficult finding people here around my age to hang out with. Does anyone have advice on where to go or maybe someone feeling the same? I’d love to meet new people!
I’m really into making/listening to music, concerts, gaming, lifting, and basically I’m open to a lot of things! I’m also studying right now so it would also be nice to have someone to body double with while studying.
