For anybody that is interested. A few of us musicians have been doing an open jam at PJ's pub (N. Monroe)the last few years. Every Thursday, 7-9.
It's more of an acoustic vibe but we do a lot of Rock covers.
Jason Young who runs it, went through music and audio in college. Toured for years down in Cali and is a beautiful Canuk who loves everyone and is an amazing guitarist.
We have two bands that are regulars, TDC and The General Machinery Company. It has turned into an amazing scene for us and beautiful vibe. We would love to share it with more of spokane.
We have acoustic guitars, a small PA with several available channels, a large Djembe, sometimes a small kit with brushes and several mics. We do lots of covers and originals. We have Jazz, blues, rock, rap/hi hop.
Feel free to come on down, we'll find a spot for you.

Anybody know whose dog this is? She’s super sweet, playful with bigger dogs. Quiet, a bit skittish. Had to chase her for blocks and bribe her with food (she’s a bit underfed). Maybe 25-30 lbs? I’m guessing Jack Russell Terrier + English Pointer mix. Found near East Queen Ave and Helena.
Hope her owner reaches out. She’s been wandering the streets of this neighborhood for about a week. SCRAPS is full. If nobody pipes up we’re keeping her.

Does anyone know anything about the assumingly unhoused man that hangs out where Francis, Assembly, and Driscoll meet? I pass him daily and with it getting colder out I’d like to see if he needs anything.
I’m asking here first because I am a female and often by myself when I pass him. He seems harmless (keeps to himself, doesn’t approach vehicles, nods at vehicles) but I don’t want to put myself in a potential situation if he’s known to be disgruntled or whatever.
Maybe a silly and unnecessary question, but I thought I’d check before stopping the next time I am passing him.

Anywhere fun to watch the games in the area? I’m either losing my mind in my living room for the next week or doing so in public with kindred spirits ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Brewers in 4!!!
I have a camper that has a mouse infestation. Is there a company (or person) out there that would like to come help clean it up and try to find out where they are getting in?

TLDR: Their in house collections recently sent us an email saying that our dispute has been sent to them. This is a collections office within the property management. We responded in an email saying we are formally disputing the charges. It was supposed to be an actual letter but we didn't do that for whatever reason. And they sent this email. And then their regional manager sent this one today.
In the process of contacting tenant lawyers around the area. It's a little difficult because of my job and my roommates school schedule. Let me know if there's anything else I need to do, where I could've messed up on, and other things I should be weary about. We absolutely don't want to pay for the charges cause it's bs. They say it's based on the move out document but again, the document was blank and we asked if anything would be changed. They said no so we signed it. And then they filled it all in with BS after we had signed it.

Hi, fellow Spokanites! I work in the health care system here with a background in public health, earning an MPH in Health Systems and Policy.
Many of us are concerned about changes to healthcare coverage coming next year, myself and the providers I work with included. Coming January 2027, there will be some significant changes to Medicaid (Apple Health) resulting from the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1), and these changes will result in significant impacts on Spokane and the surrounding region.
Here are changes to look out for:
- According to Washington's Office of Financial Management and Governor Ferguson's office, more than 600,000 Washingtonians will become subject to new Medicaid work requirements, while at least 200,000 residents are projected to lose their Apple Health coverage by the end of 2027.
- Many affected adults will need to document at least 80 hours of qualifying work or other approved activities per month, and eligibility renewals will increase from once annually to every six months. While exemptions exist, these additional administrative requirements could create barriers to maintaining coverage, including for people who are otherwise eligible.
- Nationally, the Congressional Budget Office projects that the legislation will reduce federal Medicaid spending by approximately $1.2 trillion over the 2026–2035 period, with millions of Americans expected to lose health insurance coverage.
Our city serves as a major regional healthcare hub for Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Hospitals and healthcare organizations such as Providence Sacred Heart, MultiCare Deaconess, CHAS Health, and numerous smaller clinics serve patients throughout the Inland Northwest, including rural communities where access to healthcare is already limited.
As Medicaid enrollment declines and federal funding becomes more constrained, healthcare providers could face additional financial pressures from uncompensated care and reduced reimbursements. This could affect staffing, services, appointment availability, and the financial stability of healthcare facilities throughout the region. Rural hospitals, which often operate on particularly thin margins, may be especially vulnerable.
The consequences also extend beyond people enrolled in Medicaid. When patients lose insurance coverage, they may delay preventive care, struggle to manage chronic conditions, or rely more heavily on emergency departments. Those costs don't simply disappear. They can place additional pressure on hospitals, healthcare workers, and the broader healthcare system.
It's also worth remembering that Apple Health is Medicaid, and that Medicaid covers far more than unemployed adults. It supports children, pregnant women, people with disabilities, low-income working adults, and seniors requiring long-term care. Not all these groups are subject to the new work requirements, but the program's financial stability affects the broader healthcare system.
Given Spokane's role as a regional medical center and one of Eastern Washington's largest employment hubs, I think this deserves considerably more local attention.
This is a crisis within our healthcare system that we're witnessing unfold, showcasing how political determinants impact health outcomes. It is more than alarming.

Following the brutal attack on Rick Welliver, the community has rallied to support his recovery and the huge expenses incurred. KHQ has a recent health update, and a GoFundMe has been launched to cover his expenses related to the medical bills and stolen property.
The community is devastated over this senseless act of brutality. Please consider sharing the GoFundMe even if you can't contribute yourself or stop by First Avenue Coffee to put a drink on his account. We love Rick ❤️

just lovely.
