Cheers has been part of my life… literally my entire life. I’m watching a rerun on CMT and am remembering how much this show means to me.

Edit: After reading some of y’all’s comments, it’s amazing to see how many of us find comfort in this show. ❤️

I was talking to my niece who’s about 10 younger than me about these. She grew up in NYC where I’ve always lived in LA and she said she never saw these before. Curious if these were just regional or if they were always there on the market checkout line. I also remember always wanting one, but never got one. Anyone remember these?

My cousin posted this because they brought it back for her kid’s prize booth. I was so obsessed with stickers that I was beyond excited when I went in a store with my mom and they had these! Remember sticker books?!

Discussion Those of us having to start over professionally in our 40s - what career path are we pursuing?

Laid off. A year and 500 applications later and still no work. I'm beginning to accept that the career I once took for granted is no longer a viable path forward. I need to start over doing something else, but I have no idea what to do.

Anyone else in the same boat? What's the plan?

Discussion Boomer parents and birthdays

• Upvotes

Anyone else’s parents just stop giving birthday presents? I have a good relationship with my parents. I always try to give a nice, meaningful or useful gift for their birthdays. We always do things as a family to celebrate them as well. I am a baker, so this usually includes me baking their favorite cake or dessert. But when my birthday comes around my dad forgets to even call and my mom doesn’t bother to give me a gift or offer to take me to lunch or anything. Is this some weird Boomer parent thing, or are my folks just weird? And money isn’t an issue, they have well over a million in the bank.

**edit to add, this is less about receiving and actual gift and more about the effort that I put into celebrating my parents compared to their lack effort (or lack of) from them. I was just curious if this was a generational thing or something unique to my family.

Jamming to the Sneaker Pimps tonight, still great 30 years later.

I had a great friend in high school that used to buy cd's just based on unusual band names. One time, we went to the mall, and he bought Sneaker Pimps - Becoming X. We both really were taken by the album, and it was something we played whenever we drove around and smoked weed.

I found out that he's had some recent health issues, and from what I understand, he's in a coma and the outlook isn't very postive. Playing this one tonight and thinking about some of our youthful adventures.

It just dawned on me...

It just dawned on me why the carriage return key on PC keyboards is dog legged. The carriage return lever on mechanical typewriters was dog legged so it was easier to blindly push so the shape just got carried over into the key on electric typewriters and word processors, then to computers.

Weird Al Syndrome

Does anyone else have trouble listening to songs from our generation without hearing or even singing the Weird Al version? I cannot listen to Another One Bites The Dust without singing - loudly - Another One Rides The Bus. Or I Love Rocky Road. Might as well face it I'm addicted to spuds.

Let's pretend it's 1985! You're going to the theaters, and both of these films are now showing. Which cinema would you like to watch?

No this is not a double feature, and yes you could only pick 1 just for fun!

Cinema 1 - Day of the Dead

Cinema 2 - The Return of the Living Dead
